Nintendo also knew that in order to sell their concept of motion-control, they would have to take a risk and create a completely brand new system separate from the Gamecube, otherwise hardly anyone would buy a peripheral that doesn't even fit in with any of the already existing games on the system.
Microsoft (and Sony if they do it) should've waited for the next generation to introduce this.
Yeah exactly. They could have released the 'Wii peripheral' for Gamecube, Nintendo could have skipped this generation, and chances are they would be out of business right now. Some morons don't get that integration is key here, and image is key. Microsoft could release the best virtual reality machine for like $50 and it wouldn't sell jack shit without integration.
And they are trying to have their cake and eat it too, wanting to be all everything system, when they should realize their market is for the enthusiastic gamers. For it to succeed they would almost have to reinvent their image, which would mean a new console and less emphasis on the hardcore market. You can't have both at once. Nintendo couldn't have been successful even if they had kept the Gamecube at the exact same price, included a Wii peripheral kit with Wii Sports, because that wasn't the Gamecube's image. Throw in the fact that its also a separate peripheral and its done. Damn, you would think some of these guys would have a little bit of business sense here.
