Dawww!

BJ's eye looked pretty nasty from the side. Ugliest case of swelling since Starnes vs Aldo?

The presser was...awkward.

edit: I was wondering where you were, Boogie! Thought you might have anger stroked on us after the post-fight interview

GSP himself summed up my thoughts on Diaz calling Georges scared:

That presser was hilarious!  Dana gives Diaz a title shot and Diaz.....reacts like Dana just shot his dog.  wtf is wrong with you, Diaz?

Was a good win by Diaz, but as I said elsewhere, Penn was one of the best matchups for Diaz at WW in the UFC.  All of that time trading in the pocket against Penn just translates as "double-leg range" against Georges.

Cain > Junior

Ben Henderson > Clay Guida

I don't think I know anything about the opponents of Cub Swanson, Cole Escovedo, or Kid Yamamoto, and I'm completely unfamiliar with everyone else. Still infinitely better than UFC 138!

Have they explained why only the main event is being televised? It doesn't make any difference to me but it seems like a strange decision, even accounting for the casual fan's love of heavyweights. I can imagine so many scenarios where this just ends in disaster

The official deal between FOX and UFC doesn't start until next year. This is like a last-minute preview they put together, I think. I totally agree that it could turn out really badly.

Yes, but it being a "last-minute bonus" thing doesn't explain why they couldn't make it 90 minutes and throw Guida/Henderson on too.

Not sure they would have needed to stretch it to 90 minutes for that, honestly.

But yeah it sucks. I was hyped for the first event on FOX and then I find out it's just the heavyweight fight. uhhh

The one fight thing is stupid. Especially since they are introducing the fox audience to mma. But at least that one fight is probably the biggest fight of the year on paper.

I also heard one analyst say that it is self-defeating in terms of getting good ratings, since for many fight events (that don't end up sucking), the audience grows over the course of a broadcast.

So they could possibly get worse ratings for an hour show, than a two-hour one that builds excitement towards the main event over a longer period.

Yeah I would have shown at least 2 or three fights and have long lengthy setup video pieces to set up who Dos Santos and Velasquez are. Kind of the way HBO use to do their boxing stuff. A lot of new people are going to be watching this. It would be nice to inform and educate them why this is a big bout instead of just assuming they already know it is.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first live bout on network television lasted only 64 seconds, but nonetheless managed to become one of the most-watched fights of the new millennium.

Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez’s heavyweight title fight attracted 5.7 million viewers and a 3.1/5 household rating to Fox on Saturday night, according to figures released Sunday by Fox Sports Media Group. The statistic makes UFC on Fox 1 the most-watched event in the 18-year history of the UFC, as well as the most-watched professional fight since 2003, when 7 million viewers tuned in to watch Lennox Lewis defeat Vitali Klitschko on HBO.

The UFC on Fox rating also eclipsed the 4.9 million viewers which EliteXC drew to CBS in May 2008 with a heavyweight bout between Kimbo Slice and James Thompson.

In an official release, Fox projected the UFC event to win its 9:00-10:00 p.m. time slot for Saturday, despite heavy competition from a trio of college football games on ABC, NBC and ESPN. UFC on Fox pulled strong numbers in key demographics, including 4.3 and 4.0 in Men 18-34 and Men 18-49, respectively. According to Fox officials, the Men 18-34 rating was higher than all but one college football game thus far this season, bested only by the Nov. 5 showdown between top-ranked Louisiana State and No. 2 Alabama.

The show, which took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., was highest-rated in the UFC’s hometown of Las Vegas, where it earned a 5.3/9. Other successful local markets included Dallas (5.1/10), Phoenix (5.1/9) and San Antonio (5.1/8).

It's also frustrating that, from lack of star power, this event probably barely did 300k buys.

There have been so many awesome events this fall that have bombed in buyrates.  A damn shame.

GSP is "injured"

But really, am I overreacting in thinking his career is in jeopardy here? Two knee injuries in under two months and almost a year-long layoff at the peak of his career and his physical prime....RIP

edit: Might as well give my picks for 140.

Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida
Frank Mir vs. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
Tito Ortiz vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira
Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole
Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung

Wouldn't be too shocked if Machida walks away with the strap but it's hard to pick anyone vs Jones after the year he's had. One of the most impressive string of victories in recent memory if he puts away Machida. Still don't think it's so much of a foregone conclusion as people are making it out to be. Machida will probably get ragdolled in two rounds and make me look dumb, though.

Picking Mir AND Tito to win on the same card makes me sick but the Nogs look terrible these days :(
