Meh. The sport has rules, he played within the rules and won every time. Now that he's feeling at his peak, and he should be feeling it, he is staring at the descent and not wanting to go out like Liddell. Nothing wrong with that.

Obviously his career and his health so I'm fine with the decision. I'm not a fan of a fighter going out on essentially a fight he lost on that he was rewarded a victory on. Especially one that is supposed to be an all-time great. Goes against the warrior code and such all these guys are typically spouting on about. But whatever.

He was a great fighter. Not especially one I enjoyed watching towards the latter part of his career but it is what it is.

I assume you are just talking about a bootleg stream.

Most stream sites use some version of flash and I don't think most console browsers support that. So I would just use a laptop or something like that.

A site like this will always have it up.

Should be an interesting evening. Literally you could tell me anything happened in the fight tonight and I would be inclined to believe you. Anderson knocks him out in the 1st round. Anderson gets knocked out in the first round. Anderson decides not to show up for the fight tonight. Anderson decides to show up but not fight and instead put on a break-dancing exhibition. It's all fair game. Anderson Silva is one of the most enigmatic guys in all of sports.

edit: Sad to see Leben get rocked tonight. I still held out hope he could came back and be the exciting fighter he once was. But all warriors end their careers in ugly fashion.

Fight of the Night. Really shocked at how exciting that was.

I bet Dana didn't expect his prized woman fighter to become a heel after this match.

Amazing performance by Rousey. The main problem is that honestly I don't think tate should actually be in the same weight class as her. But UFC hasn't expanded their women divisions yet.

The heel thing has kind of been building for awhile. I didn't watch it but apparently she was not very likable on The Ultimate Fighter thing they did before the fight.

I think she did the best she could considering she was technically/physically outmatched by Rousey.

She didn't want to get in close with Rousey, but if she did, she wasn't going to run away. That just plays into Rousey's hands of grabbing that arm and pulling.

I really have no idea how this Silva fight is going to play out ... the last one was so weird.

I'm not the most knowledgeable but it seems Weidman was able to react to the leg kick fast enough and defended against it. Which resulted in what we see here.

The same thing happened in the first fight and Silva was winning the second round (in the prior fight I mean) before the craziness happened. Just my opinion but one round of not very damaging ground and pound doesn't mean a guy is going to win the fight.

But what does it really matter at this stage.

yeah I hate to see him go out like this. I was hoping that even if he was knocked out again he would eventually end his career fighting. But between both Weidman fights he is going out on a really sour note.

If anybody is interested in the details of the surgery the UFC has put a video where the doctor explains the procedure.
http://www.ufc.com/media/ufc-dr-sanders-breakdown

The more that I think about what has happened the more that I realize that I do not really fully understand people who were upset about how the silva fight ended. I was a bit upset about seeing Silva go away for a while because of this but I think other fans wanted to see a proper finish or a lengthier fight to feel satisfied about who the winner really is.

To me, I find it actually kind of poetic how in order to beat Silva Weidman had to do the unimaginable or the unexpected. It makes the story even greater, the competition is high and fierce that it went to such lengths to determine the winner. It just makes the whole thing more special, out of the ordinary and memorable.

I don't think this was a freak accident, I think Weidman knew what was up and he even baited him into kicking him.

So to be honest, I do not really feel bad about how it ended. The sport is still evolving and we are all learning from it.

I don't understand how anyone can see that as anything other than a definitive ending. It's a horrific injury, to be sure, and I am surprised that it doesn't happen more in the sport.

But what you appear to be saying, Skidmark, is that Weidman baited Silva into attacking in a manner which would allow him to inflict that kind of injury? Did I get that right?

Yup, that is what I fully believe. It is really hard for me to look at the fight and see the kicks that Weidman did to Silva anything else than an invite for a response. I will try to find some gifs of Weidmans kicks.

Also, keep an eye on which foot he rests his body weight, he is anticipating a kick from Silva and that is why he has his weight rested on the foot further away from Silva. Usually you would want your weight distributed to move faster in any direction. He looks very prepared to me.

Checking kicks is quite common in mma. It's not a big deal. By that I mean its part of strategy like any other but its not an amazing or shocking thing that people do. I can tell you for a fact that nobody plans to shatter somebody's leg on a checked kick. It was a fluke. Weidman planned to check the kick. He didn't plan for Silva's leg to break apart. I'm not sure what the point here is... Yes he aimed to check the kick. The end result of the fight ending was still not something planned as part of a strategy.

This is not to take anything away from Weidman as if he is a bad person or an evil man or a bad fighter or to say he may not have eventually won the fight. But it also wasn't a master plan strategy of now I check kick and and shatter his leg to end the fight.

That is what people are responding to when they say they are disappointed in what happened. They wanted a conclusive finish on either side. Nobody is saying Weidman didn't win the fight. They are saying it wasn't the type of finish that conclusively determines who is the better fighter like a knockout or a submission or  a 5 round decision.

A lot of people seem to agree with the stoppage, including and not surprisingly Dana white. I wonder what would have happened if this happened to Rousey instead.

On a technical level i can understand the argument and why its justifiable, I still feel that it was quick. I mean you fall down to the mat from a body shot, nothing strange here, and you turn your face away too to protect it until you get up again, intelligent defense if you ask me, just like putting your hand or knee on the floor to avoid knees and kicks to the head, here you put the back of your head in the way. Also do not feel that she has taken dangerous amount of damage either, it must have hurt but feeling sharp pain doesn't necessarily mean the end to a fight.
