The second screen makes it seem like the world will be of decent size, or larger than i expected for a 3d rendition on DS.  If this is DQO, then a single player console version is likely still being done.  It's not announced yet, because SE wants to see if the Wii does the same as DS before deciding between it, PS2 and the PS3.

I dunno, I think the 2 clear screenshots look pretty bad, especially the overworld one.  You can't see the face of a single character near what appears to be the player controlled one, and the lack of depth of field makes all the far off elements in the world blend together.

You are right, although those images appear to be pixel accurate, they will be stretched bigger on the DS screen, leading to more obvious rough edges and pixelization.

I take a couple of things from this announcement:

1) Sony am fuxxored.  And they DESERVE it.  Screw all of the wailers and teeth gnashers- Sony brought this on themselves with their hubris.  Fuck 'em, I say.

2) Japanese companies will NEVER, EVER support the 360 or 720, even if it's the most technically sound idea.  I mean shit, the 360 would have been ideal as a home for DQIX- it's an actual next gen system capable of pumping out great graphics, not a technologically crippled bastard child of the previous gen like Nintendo systems.  I love how SE is saying they'll support all the consoles- but I guarantee you that the 360 gets the Chocobo racing and other shitty spin off titles, then when they bomb the SE brass can be all polite, scratch their heads and say "Oh teh noes, seems there's no demand for your system even though we gave it the ol' try..."

Yeah I agree with Bacon.  I doubt they'll put more than like 30-40 hours on a handheld like that... which is IMO like a hit to DQ in general.  They always have long ass games!

I think overall, 7 is better than 8.  7 has this neat little modular design thing going on where each part of the game is kind of its own self-contained "Fairly tale."  That and it has a job system, which DQ games should have.
