For real. He's kinda similar to ross in that he picks shit that's never too outside of his wheelhouse, but it feels a lot less rote. He's never really evolved, and normally that would be really frustrating, but he pulls it off somehow. Wiz completely embraced the 'stoner mascot' thing to the point of becoming a caricature, but Currensy has somehow managed to rap almost solely about two topics without his personality coming off as disingenuous or contrived.
Normally I really kind of resent artists for not straying from their comfort zone, but the worst thing that's happened for Currensy in that regard is that his worst records are bad because they're completely flat. I do think that's actually worse than having a bad record that's interesting, but I give him a pass just cuz I find his presence so comforting. Like, whatever year it is, Spitta will still be putting out, at worst, extremely listenable music about weed and cars.
I also appreciate him for kind of passively avoiding getting chewed up by Young Money. I can just imagine Birdman grinding his teeth as he watched Dames failed attempt to Birdman C$
