How is he talking shit about him? I'm sure you didn't cry when he died either. You probably didn't even know who he was back then.

True. But when I eventually found out Pac's new albums were posthumous releases I cried for days

I think I'll go buy it, and pick up another copy of OBFCLI (my old one is fucked up). Hopefully this leads to more Wu shit. I'd love to see them collect a bunch of good production and hit it out the park. With or without RZA

I had already downloaded OB4CLII, but I bought it anyway with an iTunes gift certificate to support this trend and keep it at #1.

Fuck Jay-Z
Fuck Raekwon and his rapping over the same beats other people have rapped over (I waited years for OB4CL2 and it turned out to be a hip-hop karaoke album?!?)

This is the business right here, and I don't even really like that thug shit.

A club song is a club song. As long as it's not utterly lyrically grating who cares. My brother dismisses any rap that doesn't have a message of some sort. I've seen him look up lyrics to Ante Up and try to say it's not a good song. It's a club song mother fucker, and one of the hardest ever  :lol

Look back at say Biggie's club shit. Lyrically it's heights above the "shawty imma buy u a drank" shit of modern rap. Hell, go back and listen to Will Smith club songs and compare them to Soulja Boy

Sure, although lyrically they weren't too separated. An argument about lyrical complexity in the 80s isn't going to go anywhere unless you focus on Rakim/Kane/etc

Lyrical complexity and good lyrics are different concepts, some of the best lyrics/poetry use simple phrasing and ideas. And hip-hop in general is a balancing act of finding/crafting great beats and building compelling lyrics. Dilla rapped off of his own great beats, but lyrically he was always really lacking, whereas Nas has failed to find good beats to compliment his lyrics. But it's okay, I generally don't disagree with you much PD regarding hip-hop.

So in my anticipation of the Clipse, I've decided that I'm going to look past the mediocre releases so far (and how they're not even charting on iTunes), and continue to be excited for Till the Casket Drops. I've also concluded that the Clipse are somehow the most impossible to market rap group of all time.  :-\ Play Cloths seems to be going well for them, though.

I like Pharrell. I really do. I think he's a cool guy, I think BBC / Ice Cream is an awesome brand with some great stuff. BUT HE CAN'T PRODUCE FOR SHIT ANYMORE. I think it has to do with the disappearance of Chad Hugo. They should just go entirely with independent producers, because they already have a 50/50 w/ masters deal with Sony Music Group. They're wasting money with Kanye and all these other big name producers (ESPECIALLY Pharrell), when they could get something that sounds a lot closer to Hell Hath No Fury, with no noticeably forced songs. They're relying too much on production, when they're a lyrical duo to begin with.

According to wiki they'll have Hitmen (Biggie, Jay), J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, Rick Rubin, DJ Khalil, and some others. That's not bad; didn't like American Gangster but the production was nice, and J.U.S.T.I.C.E League's stuff on Rick Ross' album (don't laugh dammit) is very good imo.

Corn, did you like Born Like This? I thought it was disappointing overall, seemed thrown together. Haven't re-visited it in some time though

Oh I can't hate on Rick Ross, and JUSTICE League makes great beats. (Did they do Cigar Music? Because even though that's a bonus track, I think it's my favorite overall from Deeper Than Rap... I liked Trilla and Port of Miami way more than DTR, tbh.) And the Hitmen are great. Rick Rubin should provide some good stuff, and if Sean C & LV are still in the line-up, I'm looking forward to their stuff. Back to the Neptunes, why can't they ever use real instruments? Some of their stuff would sound really good if they would just switch it up a little. (really don't laugh: Senorita by Justin Timberlake is a good example of the Neptunes + real instruments)

Had to post this Jay ether from SOHH  :lol
Quote from: goldz-n-hoez
You can tell half of the people are kids that know nothing.

Jay-Z 96 RD was nobody - pac died sold 10X platinum that year- Nas sold 3 X platinum that year
97 Biggie died Jay-Z being smart said "The city is mine" Biggie sold about 10X platinum that year

After 2 albums that wasn't selling that much he moved to Def Jam

In 98 Def Jam could push any artist and they used soundscan tricks to add sales. Volume drops Jay sells 4X platinum. DMX dropped the same year and did 5X platinum

99 volume 3- sells about 500k the first week dec 21 DMX drops dec 28 and sells 798k the first week one week later. Nas dropped I am earlier that year and sold about 2-3m but the CD was bootlegged HEAVY. ****in **** got bootlegged about 3 months before the cd was supposed to drop. It was gonna be a double CD which probably would have sold 10X platinum. I think Jay got the CD from Carmen and bootlegged it so he can stay king lol.

2000 The dynasty?- i forgot what happened with this one and what other cds came out this year

2001 the blueprint- sold less than DMX the great depression the first week. The CD was said to be a classic but with hova hovita and that ***** jigga i refuse to say it was a classic lol..

2002 after being ethered he dropped the blueprint 2 where he cried about ether and wanted people to know he is the best that ever did it.

2003 50 cent dropped GRODT and sold like 6 million that year. I guess Jay-Z thought it was over for him so he retired and dropped the black album. I guess he figured him saying he quit would make people love him more. I guess after he got ethered and dropped the sorry ass BP2 he figured this was his way to sell albums.

2005 Jay declared war to get people to his concert and it was just him bringing out his idol NAS.

2006 kingdom come- 50 cent killed every rapper in NY at this point so Jay-Z came to save the day saying "rap needs me" even tho nobody asked him to come back or missed him. spent about 20 million to promote his comeback album did 698k the first week. 50 Cent worst selling album did 698k the first week and people said he fell off lol.

2007 American gangsta the movie comes out so jay-z uses this as a chance to sell another cd using another gimmick.

Jay-Z whole career he never sold a million the first week. Reasonable Doubt wasn't a classic in 96. Nobody was on it like that. That year was all about NAS and pac. Jay-Z didnt run **** for 6 summers because i don't recall a year where Jay-Z was the highest selling artist for that year. A bunch of number 1 albums but it's not like he dropped albums the same day as DMX, Ja rule, 50 Cent, Nelly, em etc. He picked and chose he dates that's easy lol.

Biggie died he said the city is mine

he retired black album = sales
he returned kingdom come = sales
he used a movie= sales
BP3 used 9/11

Jay-Z has been very good saying he's the best on every track. He has programmed stupid people to believe that. He does have 5-6 good songs per album that keeps him hot. But All Jay-Z songs are the same since he got ethered. Just Jay crying about he the greatest alive lol..
:violin

Also I pulled out the Johnson&Johnson album again, giving it another try. It's good, I like how Blu works within the production
