This is disturbing:

Quarterback Rating Leaders
1. Manning 114.1

I don't think Shanahan rebuffed because he's Daniel Snyder, but probably because he wants full control of the team and Snyder won't do that.

Snyder needs to worry about replacing Ceratto before finding a coach.

That's the one thing Snyder SHOULD do.  He could easily hand over the whole organization to a Shanahan/Cowher/Holmgren type figure, but he won't because he's an insane napoleonic dweeb.  Ask Arthur Blank if the team is better off now that he's letting Dmitroff and Smitty run it and Mr. Home Depot is just signing checks, the way it should be.  The only owner worth paying attention to is Jerry Jones, and that's just for the comedic value.

That's distinguished mentally-challenged. He has let a coach run the entire organize - twice - and it has not worked out either time.

The organization needs a bonafide GM and Vinny Cerrato is not the answer.

Yeah, but look at who he's let run the organization.  :smug

My ultimate point is that talented football people don't want to work for Snyder- look at how he ended up with Zorn, for the love of god.

And look, I don't think he's the greatest owner in the world, but he gets a bad rap because he was incredibly overzealous his first couple of years as the owner.

Joe Gibbs had pretty much free reign to do whatever he wanted, and sign whomever he wanted - and look how great that turned out. Marty Schottenheimer also had full control of football operations, and the result was an 8-8 season (although Snyder's move to oust and replace him with Spurrier was awful).

The days of Snyder demanding coaches to start certain players are over. He doesn't even meddle much into front office affairs, save for this week when the consultant was brought in.

He has legitimate weaknesses as an owner:

- He overpays for talent based on a scale of potential and not actual performance.
- He is too friendly with Vinny Cerrato to realize that the guy is rotting the Redskins from the core.
- His friendly relationships with "star" players on the roster can be divisive in the locker room.
- He needs to fire Cerrato and replace him with a real GM.
- Costs at FedEx Field are ridiculous.
- He needs to fire Cerrato.

He didn't "end up" with Zorn. He actually picked Zorn. Zorn was hired as offensive coordinator on John Fassel's recommendation, because Synder said he was going to hire Fassel as coach (this is the second time he pulled this).

Then for some reason, he liked Zorn so much he fucked over Fassel and hired Zorn instead. Snyder could've gotten Fassel or Dennis Green or another "name" coach, but chose Zorn because he liked him so much and thought he had potential.

The reality is that Zorn is in way over his head.

I believe Snyder also passed on Singletary.

... I think if anything, this should be more proof that he needs to hire a real GM to assist in those decisions. Cerrato cannot gauge talent whatsoever.

That isn't really accurate, though. The relationship is friendly, but it is not a role where Snyder can rule by proxy.

Cerrato, himself, made all the bad decisions to draft the team's tandem of failed draft picks at wide receiver, his ridiculous draft pick of a punter in the sixth round last season (cut after a few weeks), etc.

There was no Snyder intervention. Snyder has made his opinion known that he wanted more explosive players, but it was Cerrato's poor talent scouting and lack of GM experience that has led to failures in roster management.

Snyder is at fault for letting a friend run the organization, and not firing him already, but this conspiracy that Ceratto is somehow making the calls for Snyder is a pretty lame one.

People will vilify him for anything, because he went on a spending spree in his youth - which backfired.

As an owner, I will take Daniel Snyder over the majority of the other NFL owners, because he will spend money when he has to. The question is, when will he put it together that he needs a qualified GM.

http://www.theonion.com/content/news/raiders_achieve_first_down

Quote
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—In an improbable display of competence and a basic execution of football fundamentals, the Oakland Raiders stunned the football world Sunday when running back Michael Bush miraculously rushed for three yards against the Giants and succeeded in converting a first down.

The Raiders, who fearlessly faced a third-and-one situation on their own 22-yard-line, somehow gained the 36 inches needed for an elusive first down, despite numerous obstacles that included a professional NFL defense, owner Al Davis' incompetent personnel decisions, mediocre play-calling, and general ineptitude.

This whole article is awesome

I'm listening to the Det/GB game and it's a disaster. At the start of the season I said Culpepper should start, but with Stafford injured and Culpepper starting these last couple games it's becoming clear he can't play anymore. He doesn't see defenders coming at him, and when he does he constantly takes the sack because he can't fucking move.

The OL isn't great, but Stafford was able to move out of trouble; Culpepper can't

Bloody hell. Arizona takes ten minutes for their first score, then they pull off an onside kick and recover, immediately scoring. Matt fumbles the ball right away, and they're on the way to scoring AGAIN.

The Titans, which have seen like three or four turnovers from giving the ball to Collins or White, refuse to hand the ball to Johnson, despite the fact that he is average 6 yards per carry!
