I'm not down with games that attempt to embarrass the owner as much as they can.  Plus Junpei is all over this title so I'm assuming the LE comes with a love pillow sheet and a trance vibrator.

Still better than Brutal Legend.

As if that is an achievement.

Just finished playing the prologue mission...ended with 38 minutes on the clock!  The game's got a slick presentation and is full of humor.  After the falling clock tower intro, You start out in a graveyard, and opening credits have some of the development staff's name on them.  Kamiya's tombstone is the last one, and it gets defaced by Enzo (the Joe Pesci soundalike) pissing on it.   :lol  There was also a Viewtiful Joe tombstone just visible in one of the cut scenes, and speaking of those, there's a shit-ton of them, but everything is pretty entertaining to watch.

The achievements are MUCH better than DMC4. There's one for earning 10 Platinums, and there's one for earning Platinum in Verse 1 and 2 on Chapter 14 (final level?)

The rest are collecting based it seems. There's also beat the game on Normal, Hard and ????? (it says ????? but its worth 100 pts)

I see DCharlie playing so I checked his achievements

There's no achievement for Platinuming every level on the highest difficulty or something? Lame. My only problem with the DMC4 achievements was they made you S rank all the lower level difficulties. Other than that I thought they were pretty much perfect.

Quote
Given the first-hand reports, Famitsu review scores, and general impressions coming out of this year's Tokyo Game Show, it's not exactly news that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Platinum Games' Bayonetta differ. But when our import copies of the game (which just released in Japan, and will be available in the U.S. on January 5th) arrived yesterday, I was determined to sort out the extent of that difference.
Over the past two days, I've spent about 12 hours split between the two versions, and I've ended up very disappointed the PS3 game. All the complaints you may have heard -- that it looks faded and blurry, and struggles through its framerate -- are true, and more significant than I've seen in any PS3/360 game in recent memory. The 360 version runs into occasional light framerate issues, but nothing that really affects the game. The PS3 version feels sluggish for the majority of the game -- at least, when put side-by-side with the 360 one.
You can check out our video comparison above, but I recommend checking out the larger downloadable versions on GameVideos, because these are the kinds of differences that are hard to spot in the Flash player (and in some ways are even hard to spot in the downloadable versions).

Since the stars lined up so spectacularly that the two versions don't ship in the U.S. until January 5th, but you can import the Japanese versions now, but only the Japanese PS3 version will work on U.S. consoles, I don't have an easy recommendation for the best way to play the game (unless you have enough cash to buy a Japanese 360). I've come to the conclusion, though, that the differences are significant enough that -- if you have the choice -- it's worth waiting until January to play the U.S. 360 game instead of importing the Japanese PS3 one now. If you only own a PS3 and don't plan to pick up a 360 at any point, the PS3 version is still a good game, but in my mind waiting a few months is worth the quality difference.
Of course, that's assuming that the only differences between the Japanese and U.S. versions will be their region lock. Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya told us at this year's Tokyo Game Show that he has no plans to add new content for the U.S. release, but that wasn't regarding the game's performance. It's possible that Sega will improve the PS3 version in the next few months. I've asked, but haven't heard anything back from them on the possibility.

There are GAFfots saying that the game has load time when you HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON on the PS3 version.   :lol

Even sprsk regrets his decision.   :o

DMC1 & 3 were the only decent ones the rest were garbage.

I really liked 3 though, this one tops it? Elaborate!

I haven't really played 3 yet.   :-[  The game just feels smoother than the other DMCs I've played (and also Ninja Gaiden), plus the combo system letting you cancel stuff with the dodge button and go into other combos is fuck-awesome.  The moves you can get, like the breakdancing attack, are also stylish as hell.  And being able to pick up enemy weapons and make use of them is something that all of these types of games should have had in the first place!

I wish that one day PS3 fans will realize that there's something inherently inferior about the PS3's hardware that's causing a vast majority of all multi-platform games to look better on the Xbox 360. Sure they can blame development effort but in reality that's just due to poor hardware infrastructure and middleware that's encouraging developers to not give a fuck because Sony clearly didn't.

I think it's the developer in this case.  There's no reason why Bayonetta should look and perform that much worse on the PS3.  It wouldn't be a surprise to find out that Platinum Games had no intention of ever releasing a PS3 version during development.

There's no question about it. The only people I see buying this on the PS3 are casuals, the I-don't-care-about-graphics crowd, and crazy console-warriors who care enough about NPD to $60 on this shoddy port.

I'm getting a 360 when this game gets released (about friggin' time) but there's no way in hell am I getting this on the PS3. I don't want my named dragged through the mud and my family disowning me.

I wonder what resolution both version run at; if it's already sub-HD on the PS3 then that adds insult to injury, but if it's not I wonder had they decided to make it run at a lower res would that free enough resources to improve the framerate.

both are 720p but the texture resolution on ps3 is paired back significantly. that along with the nasty blur on cutscenes make the ps3 ver appear sub-hd.

Based on their demos, what's gonna be the action game of '10, swaggaz: GoW or Bayonetta? :hyper

Bayonetta.  I'm someone who likes both GoW and the real action games and usually don't like to compare.  But when it comes to the action, Bayonetta/DMC/NG are much more fun.  God of War just has a much better presentation.

Now, if Mikami's new game is God Hand 2, then there would be some dispute about what the Action game of 2010 was.  And I guess Itagaki has his thing and Team Ninja has Other M.

I hesitate to even call that encounter a "boss fight" after seeing what comes later.   :)

There are more fights like that then, right? my favorite fights in action games are usually you fighting an enemy with similar moves.   :bow  Genshin :bow2

Yes, it did more than expected because according to Kotaku it was sold out in a lot of places, so I guess that's the number Sega shipped.

Good point. But if it's the SEGA I know and love, they won't have even manufactured much more than that, so they won't be able to get any more into channel until next month or January. Hopefully the manufacturing is a Platinum Games decision and not a SEGA one.

Holy shit...she said "Let's rock, baby!"   :lol

Finished chapter 11.  That's it for today.  Chapters 9 and 10 were the game's idea of a "recyclefest," sort of recombining bits from all the previous levels, plus making you fight previous bosses again (albeit with a lot less effort needed to win), but thankfully it had enough stuff that was also different so that nothing felt tedious.  There was a part several chapters prior where it looked like the game might turn into the ever-dreaded escort mission type for a second, but nope...the character following you doesn't need protection.  That could have really fucked the game up!

I think I've only got 3-4 chapters left.  Unless something big happens that changes everything, Bayonetta's a 10/10 in my book.

What does the replayability look like at this stage? Are there rewards for multiple play-throughs?

Pretty replayable if you're looking to get achievements and also buy all the moves/accessories/weapons/etc.  There's two more difficulty levels to unlock once you finish the game.  Doesn't seem like you can get everything in one play-through either, unless you want to grind stages and keep replaying them, but even then I don't know if everything would be available.  There's also these optional challenge areas you can find, with certain criteria (such as beating all the enemies with only 10 punch attacks and 10 kick attacks, or never touching the ground)  You can replay stages on any difficulty, too.  It's also got online leaderboards.  Out of all the DMC-style games I have played, this game just fucking trounces them all.  It's the game play that does it...tons of combos and moves, plus canceling, plus comboing from one weapon (you can have two equipped at a time) into another...sick, sick stuff.  They really outdid themselves.  I really should have finished NG Sigma 2 before playing this game, because going back to it is going to feel archaic in comparison.  The bar has been raised big time.

Could be bullshit, but I saw a GameFAQs post that said there's a hidden boss that you have to have done a bunch of criteria first to be able to challenge.

Kind of like the original Devil May Cry?

Kind of like SPACE HARRIER!  Similar controls and enemy patterns.  Plus you get a remix of the theme music.   :)  It's a pretty short little segment, but it's fucking awesome.  Like everything else in the game.

Correction: That level is Space Harrier mixed with After Burner!

Now on the last level, the epilogue.  I'm going to have to spoiler everything from here.

BitchWitch fight:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
The final showdown between you and Jeanne, the other surviving witch.  It's pretty much the same fight that you have against her several times prior, but the setting is just so crazy over the top...at one point, they start lobbing a giant missile back and forth between each other, then you have a fight on top of it!   :lol

Boss fight redux:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
You're going up a large tower, fighting versions of bosses with shorter lifebars all over again.  Somehow, they managed to make this NOT feel like a rehash!

Dark Vs. Light:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
So Bayonetta, as a witch, represents the dark side.  You get to meet and fight against the last mage on the light side.  This fight isn't difficult, nor is it impressive, but there's a few surprises, and the last hit is epic-- Bayonetta fires a single bullet, and you have to guide it in first-person, avoiding shards of glass, to hit him in the head.  Looked awesome as hell.

The last stage:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Bayonetta's out of commission, so you get to play as the other witch, Jeanne!  You ride a motorbike up a rocket and into space, jumping on asteroids.   :lol  Bayonetta gets revived, then you fight the last boss.  This bitch is MASSIVE and has several forms.  You're trapped in this cosmic bubble-thing, and have to run to avoid getting smashed into the ground by its massive fists, avoid getting sucked into black holes, avoid swirling vortexes that turn you into helpless child Bayonetta, deal with changing elements, and more.  Fucking crazy!  I got to the very last part and died at the end, all without using any health items.

Going to go back tomorrow and finish the game, this time with a well-stocked item inventory.  If it's still too much to handle, it's level grinding time.  The fight before the last boss wasn't that special fight-wise (and was the only one in the entire game that was kind of dull), but had an awesome, awesome finish.  The story took a turn for the serious, but I can forgive it since it was at the very end of the game.

The most important part of the game play is dodging.  Timing is everything, and you need it to win.  Getting witch time can really turn things in your favor-- I can't imagine how much harder things must be on the hardest unlockable difficulty...there's no witch time!   :o

I'm still fucking pissed that this got delayed over here. The wait is starting to hurt.

There is a cheap Asian release coming out in December for both PS3 and 360.

The Asian version will likely still be locked to Japanese systems for 360.

That's too bad. PS3 won't be and it's $49.95 at Play Asia.

Yeah, but it's the PS3 version. :-\

I honestly wouldn't get it even if I had both consoles right now. Smh @ Sega...

Yeah, but it's the PS3 version. :-\

I'm one of those idiots who only has a PS3 and is blind, so the differences are pretty meaningless to me.
