Hmmm... I need some tips on how to play the Estate Map.

I'm a middle distance AR player and a short range SMG player on most maps but I can't quite get a handle on that map and how to run it and where are the good spots. Whenever I actually get inside the house I die a lot. I can't hold down the area because there are so many entrances.

I'm not consistently good on this map, but the secret to success when things have gone my way seems to have been playing as unpredictably as possible. Most of the players on the opposing team seem to expect players to take the left path (via the buildings) so stun and pause along the right path, while taking some zig zag turns around the greenhouse, has gotten me inside the house a few times. If the opposition is anything like it is in most matches I've had on that map, you should be able to go wild with a CQB set-up once inside. This is also one of the few maps to inspire the usage of FMJ.

Don't miss the basement entrance. A lot of folks forget it's there. The back entrance is good, too, but don't go through the green house, go around it. The small garage right near the spawn point is a good snipe point to nail people coming down FROM the house or people sniping from the big windows in the living room area. You also have pretty clear line of site INTO the bedroom- aka, stay the fuck away from it if you're in the house. I got nailed so many times in there and you have about 15 other options for picking people off who are coming INTO the house.

There's also a very small room to the right when you enter the second floor from the greenhouse areas that make for a good stop while you plan your next move. You will still run the risk of getting caught in a blast, but you should be safe from most gun fire.

Mercs TDM is getting to be dodgy. Saw a nuke again last night, and the scoreboard showed one dude getting 30 kills. That's fine and all, but a dude on the other team had 26 deaths, and zero kills of his own. The rest of the scoreboard looked normal. Makes me wonder about that nuke that I saw on Derailed the other day, and I really hope this isn't some trend.

oh god the end of this campaign is fucking horrendous

I read about quite a bit of the story before playing it, and I remember wondering how in the hell they managed to fit it into a 5-8 hour game. Turns out they didn't, really. There were lots of odd gaps and strangely edited transitions, but the ending (starting with the scrapyard) was the crowning achievement. I'm guessing they had a sheet filled with favorite scenes from war movies and plain action movies that they wanted to get into the game, and worked on the story afterwards. Although most of the the time and resources were probably spent adding shit to MP, and attempting to balance it.

Nicolai returning as their own personal Hercules pilot was another rich touch.

It was funny how Nicolai saves your ass three times with a pave low in brazil, a C-130 in Afghanistan, and then another time at the end of the game with a Huey.  The guy was connected enough to inform on Zakhaev and Al-Assad in the last game and now he has a hanger full of miltary vehicles and yet we don't know a single thing about him.

I'm sure there's a lot of background story that they wrote about him but that it all got cut out.  They should have made it so that all those intel collectibles give you a little information on each character and all the timeline stuff that isn't explained.  It would also make it seem like a more legitimate campaign and not all just run 'n gun.

I'm guessing the original script was actually a bit interesting but when you cut everything down to a 20 second audio explanation, nothing will make sense.

Yeah, the intel shit was a missed opportunity. That stuff added a ton to Resistance, and made you want to search for background story bits. But I guess adding more story wasn't very interesting, as the campaign seems clumsily cut and pressed as it is. I'd seriously take a large SpecOps pack over another "full" campaign (or MP) from IW.

Anyway, I like the end of the game. It was beyond distinguished mentally-challenged fellow. But it was fucking fun. Yes, it reads like a TOM CLANCY JR ADVENTURE and it makes no sense and it's over the top, but it's also pretty fun. You and your best bud ona  crazy suicide mission in a raft and one on one and then KNIFEY THROW OMH MY GOD and its really cool, so fuc you

But I carried the team, along with some other random guy, and we rocked the opposing parties. They cursed him out and all rage quit. :lol

To be fair, nobody outside Bungie really does that on the Three-Sixty. EA has a crude one for Battlefield, but nothing like Bungie. I guess that's because it'd cost a buttload of money to develop and administrate.

Not that Activision doesn't have the money, but how many of the millions of Modern Warfare 2 owners would actually use it?

How many Halo players use the Bungie site?

And MW2 players are a lot more concerned with K:D ratios and other stats..  I think it'd get way more use than Bungie's.

I'm not dissing Bungie's site.  I use it a ton, and know a ton other people that use it.  I'm just saying it would get used for MW2.

statfagging in a call of duty game is the worst

all of the non anxiety inducing gametypes dont involve team deathmatch and accuracy is useless because sometimes i like to run around maps and shoot the environment while learning the map

... but there is already a mechanism for people tracking their kill-to-death ratios, why would they want to access a website to do so?

Duckman's total ignorance of Bungie's stattracking site, which is pretty well known in online quarters, just underlines how nobody outside of forum junkies would likely use it. Why pay for the expense?

The one thing I like about Bungie's site is that it tracks stats for individual games, including map points where people were killed. That would be kind of neat to show off.

Are these available in the actual game? I got some basic stat page, never found any more detailed stats. COD4 and 6 gives you very basic stats, but at least they are right there in the game (which, in fairness, Halo 3 might have too, maybe I just haven't figured out where), and you can compare them easily against the stats of friends.

Not sure why they didn't add challenge stats, though.

As for comparing it to Bungie's community efforts, I really don't think MW2 has a "community" in the same sense that Halo does.

You say about someone with 7000+ posts on a forum...   ::)

Besides, I've never been to the Bungie website, but me and the guys I played with from work always tracked against each other, and how bad we were kicking each others asses.  Like, me dominating the Guatemalans, and sending them the list of me placing #1 in like 10 games in a row...  :lol

Yeah, you can get to some basic stats, but I don't remember exactly where.

Kosma, did you see Javelin glitch response?

In case you didn't:

Take a create a class slot.

Layout:

Preferred:

Perk1: Marathon
Perk 2: Danger Close
Perk 3: Anything.
Primary Weapon: whatever
Secondary weapon: any launcher besides thumper (javelin is most widely used)
primary equipment: semtex grenade
secondary: anything.

Basically, you swap to your launcher. From there you hit and hold R1/Right Button like you are cooking said semtex grenade. Then, while still holding R1/Right Button, hit Y/Triangle to swap back to the launcher. From there, once you are shot, your launcher goes off, and with danger close as a perk, pretty much anyone in the room u die in that is an enemy dies. *

*If you climb a ladder or wall, this gets canceled out.

People do this alot in HQ.

Sometimes people on Live are just overwhelmingly lonely. One guy kept pinging me to Voicechat EVERY time I logged on; it got really eerie, and made me happy there's not a privacy issue with Live, unlike connection in a social networking site. Originally a hater of Akimbo myself, I like it and hope it doesn't get nerfed too much if it does. I use it occasionally myself with dual smgs. It has its advantages obviously up close but once you get outside of that close range its pretty easy to pick off somebody with it.

It's not something I use every time but on certain maps and with a specific play style to go along with it, it's pretty good.

There's a good place on High Rise- It's a roof with a gas tank or something on top, on the right edge of the map. You get a killer view and you can hunker behind the tank if anyone spots you. Plus, the only way up is via a ladder. I've gotten more kills there than anywhere else.

I want to become a good shield player. That's sort of a long term goal I want to work on. I just find something cool about running around with a shield. I've tried it a few times and while I stink at it, I've had a lot of fun. If I'm in the incorrect setup and run into a shield guy myself, I always get flustered for some reason. I want to give that feeling to other people. ;)

Rust is shit. It's offically the only map I don't like in MW 2. Pull that shit out of the Team Deathmach rotation. It's the new Wetwork. It's fine for like 3 on 3 or something or a Cage Match but anything more and its annoying.  A lot of people seem to dislike Scrapyard but I really like that map. It's simple and a bit chaotic but in a good way. Rust is simple and chaotic but in the bad way.

I've become a lot better on Estate. I was having a lot of trouble playing that map well until I realized I need to play the house up close and outside the house at mid-range.

The new map I struggle with is underpass. I should be better at it because it's a mid-range map and I'm a mid-range player but with the rain and it sort of being a little foggy, I can't see shit. I've tried thermal on the map but I can't snipe for shit so while it's a good idea in theory I haven't developed a proper strategy for that map. Any tips for playing that map are welcome.

I love the shotgun attachment you can get for some (all?) of the assault rifles. I'm an assualt rifle mid range player and it sort of sucked that I use to have to abandon those weapons if the map had indoor close up elements. Now I can use my assualt rifle and just switch between shotgun and AR mode on the same map instead of being caught in bad situations.

Craziest thing just happened tonight. Beezy and I went to go play Ground War, and the matchmaking service kept placing us in a private match. And it kept placing us in the same private match. The host and his friends were getting so angry, and we spent a good fifteen minutes getting kicked, rejoining, laughing at them, getting kicked, etc.

It was hysterical. :lol

That was hilarious. :lol

When we did join their first game though, they were all doing the javelin glitch on that tiny ass map. Assholes.
