Like the fact that it is completely unrealistic that someone so fucking nuts would ever become an FBI agent?

At this point he'll still have to be a consultant when the Red Dragon storyline hits. The FBI isn't going to hire someone this (outwardly :hitler) crazy.

I wonder how they're going to handle the Will-to-Clarice transition, if they get that far. It'll turn into a totally different show at that point.

I also wonder if (big Red Dragon spoilers)

spoiler (click to show/hide)
They'll pussy out on Will's fate like both movies did. Francis Dolarhyde completely fucks up Will's face at the end of the novel. You never see Will again in any of the novels after, but he is mentioned as being a drunk, and looking like Picasso art.

Yeah I know. The show is operatic as hell but verisimilitude exists. Him being accepted into the FBI would betray that.

Season one was 2005, two was 2007, three was 2010.

Aaron McGruder wasn't even involved in this final season apparently. Wanted to do that movie instead I think.

This is definitely the final season then? I figured if they went through all this trouble of bringing it back again we'd get a more consistent run.

Fringe season 5

boy this show has changed
Finished Fringe. Great show.

It's funny to me that the show didn't really hit it's strides until it escaped monster of the week territory and left it's X-Files roots in the past.

Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise. Season 3 started to see some wild changes, but 4 and 5 really decided to overturn their entire apple cart. It was shocking to see a one-off episode from either s3 or s4 become the entire backdrop for s5. I liked the way it ended but haven't felt a need to go back and re-watch any of it. I'll still see anything with John Noble in it though. That man is wonderful.

Biggest problem with Hannibal is that Will Graham is such an awful protagonist that I find myself rooting for psychopathic mass-murderer Hannibal most of the time.

Maybe if Edward Norton were playing Will (as in Red Dragon) things would be different, but something about the way that Will is written really, really annoys me.
In the novel Red Dragon, I found myself empathizing with Dolarhyde pretty frequently. I think it was one of the more surprising moments I've ever had when reading a book.

As for Graham in the show, as you mention later, he's well-acted, but difficult to follow. Sometimes I think he's like our Father Mike: seems agreeable enough sometimes, but mostly you'd never want to leave him babysitting your kids.

He's quite overrated so I'm fine with him being gone. People tend to forget how much filler content the show has had, plus it's a collaborative effort so it's not like he was doing everything. I liked his writing more in the comic strip, whereas the show hovers between average and awesome, episode to episode.

I started watching Hannibal. The cinematography etc is amazing but I cant help but dislike the monster of the week format.

Also,  the only season of the Boondocks that has filler is 3. 1 and 2 are classics period. :beli
The monster of the week format folds into the plot pretty well.

My brother has been watching HIMYM on Netflix. Every time I walk by it's just...nothing. The cold opens are never funny, especially when compared to something like Always Sunny. Every episode seemingly is the same thing, too. Hanging at the bar, talking about chicks, and a couple emotional scenes thrown in.

I can even tell by most of his laughs that it's not that funny. When we watched Arrested Development back in the day we were falling out our seats laughing. When we watch a good ep of Always Sunny the same thing happens; same applies to Scrubs. But his HIMYM laughs are very polite chuckles and "har!" types.

Seasons 1-3 are pretty good and the show's ability to carry out a long, recurring joke is as good as Arrested Development.

but its Season 4 was pretty much like AD's Season 4 -- where the decline occurred

Yeah, I used to watch it fairly regularly but sorta lost interest around there. It didn't seem so angsty in the early seasons like later where everyone is fretting over relationships and marriage and jobs and etc. constantly, but it probably is if I go back and watch it.

Fuck, True Detective is so good.  I haven't watched a ton of TV shows in the last decade cause I don't have the time/patience to devout 3+ seasons to seeing a story through (otherwise would watch Breaking Bad, The Wire, The West Wing, maybe even Lost), but this is one of the best TV show's I've seen for sure.  Haven't finished it yet though, so could fall apart.

Finished, that was darn good.  Reminded me of Gabriel Knight 1 being all in the bayou with similar murder mystery themes + awesome buddy cop film about two really well developed characters and their dynamic.  Couldn't put the last half down, glad I wasn't watching it weekly haha.  Now I'm going to be super tired at work tomorrow z_z

It's interesting because the show has got the production values of an HBO show but the structure of a show on NBC.

But I will say it does a good job looping the narrative back around near the end. I heard season 2 is more serial and less self contained.

That was meant to be more or less a metaphor for what Hannibal is doing that week. Instead of it being the main focus, killers of the week become those in Season 2.

The pilot is the worst episode of the show. Back half of Season 1/Season 2 is where it clicks, and Season 3 apparently might even be funnier than either of those two shows.

some Homeland S4 details
Quote
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 4, 2014) – SHOWTIME and Fox 21 announced today that the Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award-winning drama series HOMELAND will begin production in Cape Town, South Africa. Season four will find Carrie Mathison (Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes) assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror. The series will begin production in mid-June and shoot through November of this year. The network's No. 1 rated series with an average of seven million weekly viewers, HOMELAND's fourth season will premiere this fall on SHOWTIME.

“We've been so lucky to work with one of the best crews in the business for the last three seasons in Charlotte,” said Homeland showrunner and executive producer Alex Gansa. “We knew going into season four that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground.”

HOMELAND tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a bi-polar CIA officer who plays by her own rules. At the end of last season Carrie, pregnant with the late Brody's (Damian Lewis) baby, along with her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), brought a significant and much-needed win for the agency and country at large. Along with Danes and Patinkin, Emmy nominee Rupert Friend will return for season four, along with Nazanin Boniadi, who was recently promoted to a series regular.

I could wonder how the hell Carrie can even have a job at the CIA anymore, much less a leadership position, but hey...I enjoyed S3 and look forward to this.

making my way through Hannibal now.  Honestly not really feeling it.  I like how its able to get away with the gore, but I honestly can't shake the feeling that it still feels like an NBC serial at its core.  New story each week.  Feels like Law and Order: Fucked Up Crimes Unit at the moment with Hannibal being the BD Wong of the FUCU.

I hear it gets better near the end of season 1 so I'll keep going.
