Finished American Gods S1...was ok in the end.
Like as a book reader, I thought by the second ep it was doing good and the third ep covering Czernobog is my favorite ep in the show because it's a great book scene and the adaptation was perfect. Then after ep3 it went like original filler for the entire rest of the season. Some of it was pretty good like the Laura's backstory and the original subplot of Laura & Leprechan road trip with cab driver. But then some of it was kinda of weaker stuff like Vulcan and the Leprechaun backstory ep was totally unnecessary and boring. The new Bilquis plotline has too much screentime and feels only put in to add some T&A to the show since the book doesn't really have any after the first Bilquis scene.
The final ep was ok. Like I'm kinda annoyed that Anansi is only getting these little snippits so far, and the Odin reveal scene was stupid because they already did it in the rocket part and the camera spinning and spinning was really cheesy made for TV kinda direction. Thought it was a weak place to end on, especially showing people going to House on the Rock. I think a better place to end S1 would have been house on the rock.
Also Shadow is weird. He was good for the first 3-4 eps, and by the last ep he just sorta walks around and does nothing and has no personality. Don't really like how they're handling his arc.
Will watch S2 and hopefully it's a lot better and a lot more book material. If it's more of the same of S1 back half, will be pretty disappointed.
