To those not in the know, A-Rod hit a game tying home run in the bottom of the 11th (the Angels took a 3-2 lead in the top). It's now 3-3 in the top of the 12th, 2 outs, 1 on for the Angels.

Dodgers play in a weak division and their roster has always been overrated. Los Angeles would have never made it to the World Series with that talent and if by some fluke accident, like say the entire Phillies squad was killed in a fireball, they would get trounced by any team from the AL that made the postseason.

I don't know why Los Angeles convinces itself season after season that their team is better than it actually is.

I dunno Federwang, the Rockies and Giants were both pretty good this year.  Sure the Dbacks and Padres sucked, but most divisions have at least two crappy teams in them- AL East has the Orioles and Jays/Rays, the NL Central has the Reds and Pirates and of course as we all know the NL East has the Mets and Nationals, in that order.

The Dodgers real problem this year is that they played their best ball over the first 2/3 of the season and have been sleepwalking since.  They were able to punch out the Cards but sooner or later they were gonna have to falter.

The Rockies were the only team playing playoff caliber ball, and I think it's an indictment against the NL that we consider the Giants a "pretty good" team in that league.

And yes, while all divisions have their share of stinkers, you have to look at the talent in the division, which is lopsided in the NL East's favor.

That was me in 95, fuck the Mariners.

Anyway, ARod's hitting because, surprise, he's a good baseball player. This is baseball, protracted slumps and streaks carry through the course of 162 games + playoffs. A 7 game window doesn't mean anything over the course of a long season.

How could you NOT like that move? Seriously.

I know this is late, but I was at the bar. Bringing in Rivera is pretty much NEVER a bad move.

I really thought the Yankees were going to win after that debacle in the top of the 7th, even after the bottom of the 7th semi-debacle. I felt like Swisher was going to walk in the 9th somehow.

I guess it was more thinking about what could go wrong for Mariano versus what could go right for the Yankees. I felt a pop-up or even a grounder would score the man from third. He got a pop-up but dude was held up. I kind of think he could have made it, but the announcers and the third base coach disagreed.

With two outs, of course, you don't have to worry as much as long as you do your job as a pitcher, which he did.

In retrospect, it's always true that Mariano is the best option that Yankees have, and I had forgotten they had already used Hughes.

0-0 in Game 3 after 1 inning.

This infernal whistling during every pitch is driving me insane. Fox needs to mute the mic in that fan's area of the park. If that's not possible, track that fan down and see that he/she chokes on that whistle.

edit: It appears the whistling is only happening during Yankee pitching/Philly at-bats. That, or Fox took my advice.

edit 2: It's back. :( That is so incredibly annoying. Seriously, how the other fans in that area aren't threatening bloody murder by now, I have no idea.

7th inning stretch, Yankees up 7-4.

I wonder if Mo is up for a 3 inning save.

Let's just hope Joba/Hughes/whomever else they trot out over the next 2 innings can at least keep the lead until Rivera comes out in the 9th.

It's fairly remarkable the Skankees are up 7-4 in this game so far and tied in the series 1-1 considering the fact the lineup isn't hitting for squat.

J.eter is batting .417 in the series, but look at everyone else.

Damon .182
Teixeria .111
Rodriguez .100 (1-2 tonight, HR, 2 HBP)
Posada .250 (only 1 plate appearance in game 2)
Cano .091
Swisher .333 (benched for game 2, 2 for 3 tonight)
Cabrera .000 (.000!)

And Pettite doesn't count. For the record, he's 0.333 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

edit: Joba got through the 7th 1-2-3.

Why Cabrera is batting .000:

He just struck out swinging on a pitch that was a foot off the plate inside.

And it looks like Phil Hughes is pitching the 8th. He'll probably put the first two on with walks.

edit: Godzilla with the PH HR! 8-4 Yanks. That makes him .571 in the series. Uh... use the DH in the NL, kthx.

Hughes didn't start the 8th. Yankees might win.

Howard struck out for the 3rd time tonight. That puts him to 9 in the series so far. Howard and A-Rod were at 6 through 2 games, and the story was about how A-Rod was halfway to the series record of 12.

Now Howard is three-quarters of the way there.
