Howard sucks. I've seen him wave at sliders from lefties like that a million times. I don't get why a lefty would ever throw him a fastball.

Werth is up now. His two jacks last night were like a tale of two cities. The first, he sort of reached and poked it out. From the swing, it didn't look like it would have enough power, but it left the park anyway. The second one, though... :o

edit: they "intentionally" walked him... after legitimately pitching him to 3-1 in the count

If people didn't realize Werth was good before this postseason, I hope they do now. I'd take him over Howard on my team.

The Yankees aren't really making Blanton work. Through 2 innings, he's only up to 21 pitches (CC is at 35), despite being through the entire line up. He has given up two runs, but the arm isn't getting tired.

And he gets through the third in 11 pitches.

CC isn't pitching enough strikes. 23 balls already on 55 pitches in the 4th.

edit: 66 pitches, 27 balls through the end of the 4th. 2-2 game.

The Yankee bats need to come alive. Je.ter and Damon opened the game with hits, Centaur Playboy got plunked, but since then... nothing. Only Jete.r has a good or even decent batting average so far in the series (well, there's Mats.ui, but he's not in the game since they're in a NL park and there is no DH). Teixeira, Rodriguez, Cano, and Cabrera are all batting below .100 so far. How did they ever manage to get 8 runs in the last game again?

Welcome to the series, Melky. Finally got a hit. Even then, it could have easily been a double play, but Utley somewhat misplayed it, but not enough to draw an error.

Yeah, he totally would have been ruled out if Posada had tagged him, because the ump knew he didn't touch the plate. Posada tried to go to second instead.

Yankees are going with Burnett on short rest in game 5. He pitched great in game 2, but I'd definitely say advantage Phillies with Lee.

And this game certainly isn't over, with CC's high pitch count, the Yankees' shaky bullpen, and the fact that the Yankee bats are still anemic.

4-3 Yankees going into the 8th. A-Rod, Posada, and Cano are up to start the inning. Need some production here, particularly with Werth stepping to the plate in the Phillies half of the inning.

No hits so far from the 3-4-5-6 and 7 hitters in the Yankee lineup. If the Skankees blow this game, they've really blown this series.

2-2 with Lee is a far cry different than 3-1. Philly could be heading to NY with a 3-2 lead and both Yankee pitchers (Pettite and Sabathia) going on short rest.

edit: Posada walked, Cano got a hit... still no runs as both men were left on.

Matsu.i will probably pinch hit to lead off the 9th, no matter what Philly does in their half of the 8th. Then it will be Je.ter and Damon. Assuming any of those get on, Tex and maybe Centaur Playboy will have another shot at it.

I agree, but that doesn't mean that the Yanquis are guaranteed to win a game 5... which seems to be what you're implying.

Also, I think that Manuel will end up regretting not starting Cliff Lee tonight.

Both Philly home runs have been with 2 outs and 2 stikes.  :(

Fortunately (from a Yankee fan's perspective), at least both have been with none on. Still... one more strike.

Don't be a drama queen. Yankees locked up the year when they upped their payroll to about a billion this year, this is just all been a formality.

Skankees have had 200+ million payrolls for years. Hasn't translated to championship rings.

And to let the pessimism continue, the Skankees are the team that blew a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox in 04. Still, 3-1 looks pretty good, though I certainly believe it will go back to New York.

Game 6, it's likely to be Pedro versus Pettite, again on short rest. Advantage: Phillies?
Game 7, no idea versus Sabathia, ditto on short rest.

Well, I used to play baseball until I turned eighteen, and as a Maryland native, I was raised on Cal Ripken and the Orioles. I remember attending Opening Day at Camden Yards when it opened - they were playing the Indians. I remember the good years with Davey Johnson and Brady Anderson's fluke season.

So, as someone that used to support an AL East team, the hatred I have for the Yankees runs very, very deep. And even though I have switched allegiances since then, I despise the fact that New Yorkers will pat themselves on the back for winning a World Series they clearly purchased with a bunch of asshole players.
