Wow, it actually does. I just might get it for my nephew for Christmas and beat it over the break. :lol

Edit: Music is still meh though and I hate that they couldn't add someone other than Toad as a playable character.

Music aside, which isn't too good, the game seems like it's going to be awesome.  I read previews and a lot of them shared my problems with NSMB DS and mentioned how this game fixes a lot of those problems are is more like SMB3.  It's also supposed to be really hard.  It is a bit weird that more people aren't jazzed for this.  I mean, I had to bump the damn gaf thread once to mention the previews that compared it to SMB3.

It is a bit weird that more people aren't jazzed for this.

Based on Nintendo's recent track record maybe many people are expecting it to just be okay, or to require multiplayer to be any good.

If this is classic SMB and doesn't need multiplayer to be awesome, I am there.

It's so refreshing when you see a game preview video where the player is actually good at it.

Those are in game movies that you buy with star coins.  If you ever played Donkey Kong Jungle Beat its similar to the TRY THIS! clips that you showed you how to get higher scores.

It's easy in NSMB Wii.  You just hit pause and then select the "win" option so the game will do it for you.  :drake

I hope they take advantage of the win option and make really hard levels. With the win option the grandmas can still beat the game while the rest of us still have a challenge. NSMB DS was too easy.

No, he's actually right about that. There's the normal "Super Guide" where a ghost takes the fast route through a level and you can unpause at any point, and if you collect coins then you use them to unlock videos of special moves, infinite 1UP tricks, hidden areas, etc.

Nice to see single player videos for once. Fuck co op in a Mario game.

I really wish they hadn't used NSMB as the basis for this though. I'm not a fan of the aesthetic.

from what I've read the multiplayer is just extra and everything can be done solo.  It would have been nice to have online multiplayer since it would be like LBP except with better mechanics and a Mario game.  Nintendo gives the usual BS answer to why they were too lazy to implement it, but whatever, I'm content with playing it a lot alone and occasionally play with friends.

Wish it was 60fps, otherwise it looks good.  I beat the DS one but it was so forgettable I can't even tell if this is a remake or a new game using the same visual style :X  Either way it's Mario & Platforming so Day 1

The game will probably be fun, but it still looks like an upscaled DS game.  Nintendo has been VERY lazy this generation, outside of Mario Galaxy.  :yuck

It's not surprising at all. NSMB for the DS is the least popular of the main line Mario games, with its sub par music, graphics and level design. Sure, it's a good game, but not a particularly good Mario game.

This however, looks to be much better than the DS version, so that's good at least.

Wish it was 60fps, otherwise it looks good.

 ???

It is 60 fps.

As far as I can tell they only use the Plains theme for regular-ol' levels.  I'm pretty confident they have some new songs for this game.  Besides, people hating on the Mushroom Waltz gtfo.

And yeah, the game is 60fps, that video is just a bit laggy.  There's this video at a site called wiiz that is buttery smooth, but the site is down atm.

Upscaled DS game? smh

It's a main line Mario game. Scores aren't going to deviate much from different media outlets. It's not Mario and Sonic go to the Olympics or whatever.

Looks nice.  Reuses a lot of sound effects from other Mario games what I noticed.

I don't think it's ugly, just really weird looking because it's a 3D on 2D.  It seems like either the characters or world should change to be more consistent with the other.

This I know, but they don't look as good as Paper Mario or Galaxy. I don't know why they had to source their art design from N64-era technology that really didn't look cohesive to begin with.

Super Mario Bros. 3, while one of the best platformers ever, is kinda meh both in music and style.

The only 2D Mario games that I've felt the completely fucking nailed style and music were World and Yoshi's Island.

I couldn't disagree more about SMB3.  Actually, one of the big reasons I don't like World nearly as much is because both the music and style felt like a huge downgrade (despite being on more powerful hardware).  I don't want to SMB3 was "dark" or anything like, but SMW felt like a kids cartoon compared to it.  Things like World 7 and how it was like a jazzy industrial theme with throwbacks to the underground areas in SMB1 were amazing.  And World 8 was just crazy.  It's like your in hell, fighting off tanks to a heavy marching theme.  SMB3 was so incredible.  SMW is amazing too, don't get me wrong, but SMB3 is on another level.  Yoshi's Island might be on that level.

The repeating tile(s? ... is there even more than one?) in the ground on a lot of levels are what kills it, I think.  That shit just looks lazy.  Everything else ain't so bad for what it is.  Some of the levels, like the underwater ones, look pretty good.
