Some realms have heavy queues so they opened up free transfers off them. So much for the game being dead.

brief impressions

-So far I don't think the intro quests are as interesting, but repetitive in the WoW sense of fetch quests/kill quests

-I did the first dungeon (the brewery one) an hour ago. It's pretty fun and laid back, but I was surprised at how easy it was. I really liked the early Cata dungeons because they seemed like a return to challenging content - cc was necessary, lots of roaming pats, bosses that could kill you if you didn't pay attention, etc. Of course, random groups made them ridiculously hard since you'd always get at least two dumbasses in your group, and after much crying/complaining Blizzard nerfed everything.

-Perhaps the best way to satisfy both the more casual players and the more experienced players would be for dungeons to scale in difficulty based on your gear. I'm decked in raid gear and don't really have to worry about dying, whereas there are plenty of people who just got to lv85 last week. A group of people like me could face a much harder dungeon and do good, whereas a more mixed group could get a middling level of difficulty. I know Guild Wars 2 does something like this, I'd love to see WoW tackle it

-Just found out a couple of my favorite players server transferred. Oh well, I rejoined my old guild and hopefully recruitment will go well. Unfortunately few people were in it during Cata so it's a lv18 guild right now, but we'll get there soon enough. I spent all of Cata with a rather large guild and didn't have a lot of fun, so a smaller more intimate one with folks I know is definitely what I want.

Ok, I'm no longer hating being an Engineer. Been one since I created my Mage right before BC and after three expansions of torture, there's some really great Engineering stuff even at the beginning of MoP crafting. Hell, having a portable Anvil/Forge is the best thing ever done to the skill.

Sales of the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion have been disappointing, according to analysts at investment bank Lazard Capital Markets. The fourth expansion for Blizzard Entertainment’s massively popular online game has sold between 600,000 and 700,000 copies at retail since its launch earlier this week, Lazard estimates.

Historically, each new World of Warcraft expansion has outsold its predecessors, Lazard said, but sales of Pandaria are down 60 percent from the previous expansion pack, Cataclysm, which has sold 3.3 million units since its launch in December 2010. While these figures don’t take digital market performance into account, Lazard analysts believe Pandaria’s digital sales won’t make up for its poor retail performance.

Digital won't make up for it, but Blizzard will spin it that way. Had to happen at some point.

How many annual passes did Blizzard sell? I'd be interested to know how many of those actually purchased Mists. I didn't.

probably because they don't really have much to heal lol. When I was healing with my shaman at that level the only trouble I'd get into was groups with rogues. They'd steal aggro from tanks and just a few hits would have them near death

I wish there were survival modes of dungeons and raids. They'd be as hard as challenge modes, and if you die you'd be kicked from the group, and the group would be put in que to find your replacement.

Took GW2 two and a half weeks to hit 2 million. So MoP is selling more copies, faster. So much for yet another "WoW-killer".

I think 2 mill was after one week, but WoW should sell more copies than GW2. It should be selling over a million more than GW2. WoW has a supposed 9 million install base and advertising money behind its launch. The fact that the sales are this close isn't a great sign, nor is it that this looks like the smallest launch for a WoW expansion. It's still much better than the original doomed 700k number.

Meh, MoP was always going to outsell GW2; there are simply too many active subs for it not to. The more interesting thing to watch is whether subs start falling in a few months again

Subs fell after Cataclysm because:

1. People ran into a content wall and ran out of things to do after DS.
2. SWTOR was a WoW Killer.
3. GW2 was a WoW Killer.

This time Blizzard really only needs to worry about #1.

After a slow start, the MoP zones are starting to impress me. I really like what Blizz has done in terms of blending the storylines into the zones/quests, and making it cinematic to a degree. I just did a pretty cool training montage, and awhile ago there was a nice playable flashback scene. Now I'm in an area that's like Nagrand mixed with The Wall from Game of Thrones. Pretty cool

Overall the quest objectives are the same stuff (kill this, fetch this, etc), I'm not going to spin that. But I'm having fun.

Finally did Temple of The Jade Serpent yesterday.  It's apparently the intro dungeon but I found it to be far more interesting and potentially challenging than the second dungeon. I can't imagine the Brewery dungeon being particularly noteworthy on heroic mode, but Jade Serpent's first and last boss fights could be very interesting on heroic.

Lots of shaman changes, hmm. I couldn't will myself to get my shaman to lv85 during Cata (only got it to lv83) but I plan on really using it this time. I got to lv84 pretty quickly and will just grind dungeons until I'm ready for panda land

I've also been playing around with Healbot. So far so good, but I haven't run into anything hard. I want to see how I handle it during situations that demand quick reactions

I know you hate pvp, but one of the better ways to test healbot is to take it into a BG and be heal bitch. It'll help you figure out how you want your binds and quickclicks setup. There's always tons more to cleanse and burn CDs on in PVP. Then you can port over your setup to dungeons.

Yup did some pvp earlier, was rather fun actually. I tended to hate pvp because all I could do is walk around and be a meat wall initially (before dual specs were introduced), and then when I finally could use a dps spec it just wasn't interesting. Healing was cool though. Got to work on my speed in terms of dispells and big heals
