played the demo.  yep, it's l4d.  Zombies run at you and you shoot them...no complaints here.  The new special zombie types are cool.

And I play all the Source games on a quad core with no studdering at all. People need to stop trying to play these games on 512MB of RAM on their parent's Walmart bought Acer.
Fuck off, I have the Ultra Crysis PCTM with 4gb of ram and 9800gt

How can a game where you get cornered by zombies be playable on consoles anyway? Did they reduce the number of zombies or something?
Yes, they reduce the number of zombies in the console versions.

Yeah, Source is sooooo awesome.  Played it last night with everything maxed and 4x AA @ 60fps and it looked PRETTTTY, you'd never guess it's such an old ass engine.  Looks as good as most games these days.  Love the dozens of weapons, love the more active scenarios, love the melee, LOVE THE EXTRA BOSS ENEMY TYPES.  All in all great stuff.  Need to play more L4D!

Applied a mod to let me play as Infected in the l4d2 demo. :rock

Rockin'.

It's a fantastic demo, and someone who never played L4D1, I'm pretty shocked how much mileage the source engine still gets from valve even in 2009.

That's because Source is the awesome be awesome.  Since it's 5 year old tech it can scale and be played on old rigs and laptops while still looking awesome on Crysis computers.  <3 <3 Source I'm so sad the Sin episodes died at ep1, I really enjoy the look and smoothness of source games.

It has a much more pleasant look that's nice and detailed but not gooey and shiny and plasticy like UE3

would be nice if Valve made some Source 2 engine for next-gen consoles (and PCs too, I guess, not that the PC has any games, but maybe the next excel could use it.)  I like Valve's aesthetic taste better than Epic's.  Epic seems like it's staffed by dudes who pimp out their rigs with LEDs, glow-in-the-dark alien heads, and chrome everything.

Well, I did it. I had some money saved, so I bought the L4D/L4D2 bundle on Steam so I could get the baseball hat and save a few bucks. This better be worth it.

(I played for like 10 hours straight during the free L4D weekend and called in sick to work)

Epic's offices are quite muted and very professional while still being unmistakably a game company. They have some garish stuff in the lobby but it's all leftovers from media shows.

This game is really fucking hanging on my computer. Every time I get swamped or turn a corner, there's a good 4-5 second hang while it loads, then the framerate is butter.

Going to see if this helps:
I moved my swap file to a different hard drive from the Steam directory
Updated to new nVidia beta drivers
Defragged
Turned down a bunch of settings
Set my computer to not record the Daily Show right during prime game time. (Oops. That was probably it)

Wasn't real happy about stats/achievements being wiped last night.  Luckily I'd only put in about 4 hours prior, so I didn't lose a lot.  I feel bad for the people who played 20-30 hours the first few nights and lost all their acheivements :(

I finally finished Dead Center.  The last section, at least with randoms, is the hardest L4D section.  I blame it 100% on no one having a clue what to do.

Even with a team that knows how to play that finale is WTF for a while until you figure out a good strategy.  All the rest of the finales are pretty brainless and what you're used to, but Dead Center is OBJECTIVE BASED.

And I'll admit that our team had to do all 5 finales on normal despite doing the stages on advanced.  We gave each one 5-10x tries on advanced and it was just way too impossible for us, so we had to finish on normal.

I had to do the finale of Dead Center on normal.  I've been playing on expert since the L4D1 demo; playing on anything other than expert feels strange to me.  I remember joining a friend game on advanced (w/e the one below Expert is) and we took down a tank like it was nothing.  Even in the Dead Center run on normal, I took out a witch with a bat and a tank with an axe.  But that finale on normal as harder than anything I've played on expert.

My plan was always: two teams; two people fill up tanks/defend, the other two throw the gas down starting from the top floor.  It all seems to work out until the AI director suddenly wakes up and spams with specials.  It goes from no action to "I just killed a smoker who was attacking my teammate while avoiding a charger, killed the charger, and fuck, now there is a jockey on me".

At least I can finally move on to the next one.

OH, and shut the fuck up, Ellis.  The demo already made me want to kill him with the "y'all know what suck the heads mean" bit every single time you play that section.  Doing the final part of Dead Center has him say the same shit in that elevator ride.  And I just finished Mass Effect again, last thing I want is to be in an elevator.  Characters kinda suck in L4D2.  Not even Cuddy as Coach does much for me.

don't get me wrong, either. this game is fucking awesome. everything added makes it a better experience.  The best is that killing teammates is now a good strategy (if you have a defib, since it brings them back with 50 health).

Yeah the 2 up, 2 down is the main strat I think.

Our team was not clever enough to figure that out, so our strategy was to split into 2 teams and both are up high trying to throw down enough gas cans.  Then we'd all run downstairs and one person would do 1 can at a time while the other 3 defended him.

Unlike the first one, I think they dropped the ball with this port a little bit. Compared to the L4D2 demo on PC, the 360 version does not look as good (the original looked the same on both platforms, for the most part). It has the  same visual quality as the first game. Everything else is about the same, but it needs a patch for some small issues. Sometimes when after you heal a teammate, your hand will be stuck in the same position. Also, controls are still not configurable, which kinda sucks

LEFT 4 DEAD 2: TWO MILLION SOLD IN TWO WEEKS

Valve’s Zombie Apocalypse Sequel Doubles Sales Over Original

Dec 1, 2009 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced sales results and multiplayer numbers for its zombie apocalypse, co-operative action, Left 4 Dead 2.

Released just two weeks ago, over 2 million retails copies of L4D2 have been sold worldwide and the game appears to be on target to become one of the top selling Xbox and PC titles for the month of November. Sales to date are more than double the original title, which was released exactly one year prior to L4D2. And “Black Friday” promotions during the title’s second week of availability in North American resulted in stronger than expected sales in L4D2’s bid to become one of this year’s best selling releases on both platforms.

“Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon.”

Gabe must be very happy.Boycott lol.

All the $29.99 and $34.99 deals certainly helped it. It was really an expansion and when it was priced accordingly it sold like hot cakes. I wouldn't have paid $49.99 for it but at $29.99, that was the sweet spot.

PC doesn't count steam.

I'd guess there's another 1-2 million there.  For 3-4 million total.
