I need this to be good. 2009 has been such a piece of shit. There's gotta be at least one good thing to come out of this year besides The Resistance.

You really need a taste transplant.

Holding The Resistance in high regard totally negates any positive reputation a person would normally receive for liking The Godfather or Led Zeppelin. You can't be a nice guy and a child molester

Why would anybody want to get all that excited over a movie just because it has good visuals?  Hell, these don't even look that good from a creative standpoint.  That new christmas carol movie looks a thousand times more interesting.  Even the book of eli even though it seems like it just rips off a lot from fallout.

I do think that the action looks pretty awesome and I for one am pretty stoked to see what Cameron has done with this crazy new tech, but saying that nothing good came out this year when Quentin Tarantino released arguably his best film EVER is laughable.

I will have to wait for impressions before going into this.  If it has like 95% action, then I'll buy a ticket for something not so shameful and then hop into this and take bathroom/popcorn breaks whenever it gets into furrylicious, hippy-ass, braveheart mode.  I know at least like a third of this movie is going to be like that so it's a pass most likely.

Braveheart kinda sucks.  It fails at its most obvious purpose, which would be a Commando-esque action flick that you put on when you're with your buds and you're lit up and you whip out your cocks and choreograph sword fights along with the action scenes before you get down to the analingus, because it's bookended by too much maudlin garbage.  And it fails as a drama simply because it's impossible to take Mel Gibson seriously.

The Resistance FUCKING BLEW, not to derail the thread or anything, but fuck, it did. FUCK. So disappointed.

I will reserve my opinion for Avatar until I see the film. I really don't know what to make of this film. I didn't when it was announced, and I didn't when I saw previews. All I will say is that I am nearsighted, which means I'm fucked on the 3D part of the film right away. 3D is the biggest gimmick in film ever and I've never been impressed with it, even when I manage to fit the uncomfortable glasses over my regular ones and experience it.

Other than that, it's James Cameron directing a science fiction movie, and to my knowledge, every time he has directed a sci-fi film, it hasn't sucked. In fact, it's been revolutionary to not just the genre, but to films in general. The guy directed three of the best science fiction and action films of all time. I'm going to give the film a shot and not write it off.

One more slight bitch: this film doesn't look dark at all. Cameron excels at dark sci-fi, so I'm curious to see how this plays out.

Considering that the ratings for their awards ceremony are the lowest in a decade, they probably would like some free media push.

Not only that, but with the recent expansion of nominations, how difficult will it honestly be to secure an Oscar nomination? Hell, they're talking about The Hangover being nominated for Best Picture. Way to go, Avatar - your competition is The Hangover.

You won't get me to bite on that one, because I didn't like Transformers 2! If that's what we're now comparing Avatar to, even more reason to avoid the cineplex this weekend.

And I vehemently disagree that it's be sold to me as a spectacle. It's not. It's being sold to me as high brow art, as per reviews and nominations, and that's my number one faux pas when it comes to spectacle entertainment. I find it ludicrous that critics that would slam other directors for the very thing Avatar is being praised for ("Gee golly, the special effects are amazing, but the story is pretty mediocre").

But that's the power of Cameron.

And the great thing about it is that I don't have to give him one penny - which I won't. I'd rather sit here with my Netflix queue and watch actual good films. Then once all the hyperbole dies down and Cameron falls back down to Earth, I can watch Avatar in my home without paying to see it. And I'll have the benefit of distancing myself from all the lame hype.

Or maybe I'll never watch it, and spare myself the 2+ hours of furries in space.

To be fair, the action was the least of Bayformers' problems, but rather the hours of waiting between the action that made it so insufferable. I'm sure Cameron's film will have better pacing - at least I hope it would - but his filmography is noteworthy for having spots that drag in almost every single entry.

That's not what the interviews or the critics' early reviews have reflected. In fact, so far every one of them reads like: "wow, it delivered the promise."

I guess they're not the same critics that nominated it for Golden Globes or gave it perfect scores, despite problems with the screenplay. ???

Again, there's a big difference between a two and a half, three-star review that says, "It really is visually awesome!" but doesn't give Cameron a free ride, versus the reviews we've read that pretty much call it THE GREATEST THING IN EVER. The Golden Globe noms, picked by the critics, pretty much say that as well.

Oh well. At least it won't get nominated for Best Screenplay or anything.
