So what is your fursona, Triumph?  Inquiring minds want to know.

::)

Excuse me for not wanting to write off a flick from an obviously talented director who has yet to make a sci-fi/action movie that rates below "good" on my personal rating scale.  Obviously since it has blue skinned weird lookin' things in it that confused, distinguished mentally-challenged teenagers will try to hump it must suck.  You guys are fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

Trust me, if it's anything as bad as Titanic I'll be the first person to admit it.  But writing it off before I see it is distinguished mentally-challenged.

Even Roeper (in his review) states that Cameron piles on the sop and goo with the whole Pocahontas angle the movie strives for. That shit is going to be annoying but I'm going to be watching this due to the whole spectacle of technology. I'd rather tolerate the shitty scenario and watch it at IMAX in 3D instead of at home where I don't have the huge screen and 3D.

O SNAP. Cajole just reversed the tables on you!

... I love it when people compare a film to films even I don't really like. Even you admit The Abyss is not as good as Spider-Man 3, which self-admittedly is not very good?

That's probably a lower opinion of The Abyss than even I have of it (which is that it's pretty dull in spots and mostly forgettable).

Nope, cause the Wachowskis had made multiple flicks that I had seen that I felt sucked- the last couple Matrix flicks.  Couple that with the obviously 'tarded nature of Speed Racer and my hatred is at least reasonable.

But none of you can refute the fact that Cameron has an admirable track record with sci-fi/action flicks.  You're just out to hate because either a) OMG TEH FURRIES, b) the hype factor, c) it's cool to hate on something that cost so much or d) what we'll call "The Dark Knight" syndrome where a perfectly good genre flick gets shat on because of enthusiastic fanboys proclaiming it the greatest thing ever.  Of course, I can't really think of anyone enthusiastically declaring it the most awesome thing of all time ever, just saying "hey I kind of want to see this."

Bottom line- the hate is just incomprehensible.

Now that my questionable taste is out of the way, the wife and I are seeing this in 3D because we had both never seen 3D until A Christmas Carol and we were amazed so we figure this has to be like incredible or something in 3D.  Story looks generic, but it will no doubt be entertaining as balls

I've yet to see a modern 3D flick- I did see like Jaws 3 or whatever in 3d, but that was like 20 years ago or something.  Then again, it's kind of tough to enjoy a 3d flick when you've got real glasses- I guess I'll try to go with a pair of contacts in, but man I hate wearing my contacts.

And even Kate Winslet's magnificent tittays couldn't save Titanic.  I cheered when Leo died at the end.

The new 3D glasses that they use fit fairly well over regular glasses. It's not perfect, but I've sit through Bloody Valentine 3D, Coraline, and Up while wearing them and it wasn't too big of a deal.

How do those DVDs which come with 3D glasses work? They're not using red/blue tinting, right? The glasses look grey, which I thought was for polarized/non-polarized projection.

From the look of them (the IMAX ones) they aren't mutli colored. I think I read on GAF that they are straight up polarized.

There has not been a true 3D solution for home theaters, other than the standard "gimmicky" polarized glasses that have been used for ages. That changes next year, when 3D Blu-ray players and compatible HDTV sets hit the market. NVIDIA is set to debut its 3D Vision solution for the home theater at CES next month, but both Panasonic and Sony have been tinkering with the shutter technology NVIDIA currently uses for PC games.

Expect that to be adopted by the manufacturers sometime Q1, and players and HDTVs to roll out in Q4.

The ones that come with DVDs/BDs are still just the regular blue-red setup. Some of them use magenta-cyan to supposedly give a better picture, but still, they're kinda crap. If you want to see real 3D, you have to catch it in the theaters for now.

Got tickets for midnight. The 3D glasses are a lot more comfortable than I remember. They already gave me the pair when I bought the tickets tonight.

Hopefully my $20 investment (for me and my fiancee) will be worth it.

There's a rumor going around that Cameron wanted stores to pull Winds of Altair off shelves but it's OOP. :rofl

Was Eberts review posted?

I'm gonna show up on a random day without a ticket. If they're sold out I'll just go see Precious or something
