only thing I really dislike is that melee uses up energy.  if you're out of energy and an enemy is up close, you can't do shit.

Hmm, didn't even notice that. I just used the melee during slides to drop kick people.

This game is everything I wanted though. Fast paced action game fused with a TPS. This ain't your grandpa's stop-and-pop shooter.

Will investigate the scoring system further as well. Looks pretty basic, but it could be pretty solid.

lol the casual automatic mode locks onto enemies for you if you press the L trigger.  It's like Red Dead Redemption/GTA4 auto-aim.

Good to know.

PS3 is the lead platform for this game, so I'm going to try it out on both.  But I doubt we will have another Bayonetta situation.

Tried it. It's fun once you get used to the controls. As expected the voice acting and plot seem throwaway but whatever. I found that boss kind of confusing as in his weak spots being hard to get to sometimes. But otherwise I thought it was a interesting spin on the third person shooter. I really like the sliding mechanic.

OMG, game plays SOOOOOO well.

Fast, faster, fast.  AHHH!

I hope very much it doesn't end up being a great 4-6 hour game with no replay.  I want more of this, I want lots of this.

Nothing wrong with a short game that is all about great mechanics.  I played Mirror's Edge like a hundred times since it came out and that was around four hours long.  Or it might be like God Hand and be longer than you'd expect.

Pretty much. I've been half-jokingly saying it looked better than Gears ever since I saw that footage from E3 but I'm kinda serious now. Third person shooters generally suck dick but I'll probably make an exception in this case and pick this one up when it drops

The demo alone is better than both Gears games. The whole stop-and-pop trend this gen is incredibly dull. Run up to the wall, press up against it, aim, shoot. Repeat for 8 hours. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

People are saying difference is negligible.  Apparently PG did both versions this time instead of tossing the PS3 version to Sega.

Well, supposedly it was a PS3 to 360 transition.

It's no Bayo... I'm really not feeling it. I'll try again later.

Is there anything I should know? How does the scoring work? Should I be zipping and zooming around? Why does my suit overheat after a few seconds? Where is my health?

Don't worry about scoring yet.  And yes, almost always be moving.

The energy gauge is basically everything.  Boosting, slowing down time, your health, and melee all use it.  Well, I say health but it's really the safety mode that turns on when you're about to die.  You have to learn how much damage you take by feel.

Melee uses up the entire energy bar.  If you boost and use melee, you have a brief moment in mid-air where you can aim and go into slow-mo.  If you melee normally, it just empties it.  Melee shouldn't be used if the bar is full or if you're engaging a group of enemies.  From what I can tell, even a sliver of health will let you do the same melee attack as full.

Slowing down time is handled by aiming whenever you do a high speed action.  Boosting, dodging, vaulting over cover, and things like that will trigger slow-mo if you hold down the aim button.  Also, don't just sit around in slow mo firing at an enemy.  You can hit dodge while aiming, it will take you out of slow mo for a moment, and helps you manage your boost and avoiding attacks that may reach you in time.

Other things worth noting:
-you switch weapons instantly.  You don't even need to stop holding down the right trigger; just press another direction on the d-pad to instantly fire the next weapon.
-pressing the boost button behind cover makes your character smoke and toss the cigarette.  The cigarette draws enemy attention away from you letting you boost behind and flank them.
-teammates also draw enemy fire and you can heal them if they are hurt.

The scoring system is very simple, but it gets the job done. Kill lots of guys, and string them together. At the end of the game you get a time completion bonus (I beat it in 8 minutes and got +1000 points, not sure if you get more for being faster) and points deducted for dying (-1000 for every death I think). I don't think the other stats affect your score (cover used, friendlies healed, etc), but I haven't really checked.

Linkzg covered just about everything else. It's a fast paced game.

After first hour there are two solutions...for me of course

A.Game is fun=continue playing

Even if you ignore the fact that Bayonetta was an action game and Vanquish is a shooter, it's still a pretty bad comparison.  I don't even notice people on gaf complaining much about it.

The only interesting thing is that the resolution of Vanquish is the same as MGS4 and Yakuza 3 (1024x768).  Something about Japanese games and 4:3 resolutions.

Vanquish is 1024x720.

My mistake.  I was going to say that Japanese people are stuck in the past of 4:3, but that was destroyed.  I guess there isn't anything about the resolution or tech to discuss.  We'll have to stick to talking about how awesome the game is  :yuck

Game wouldnt work at 60 frames. It is fine how it is. Should have just made Bayonetta II: Scissor Sisters.

Forget that.  Kamiya should be working on Vanquish 2.  Following Mikami in the past let to RE2 and I believe it can happen again.

Talking about the game, I like how there is co-op all ready and set in the game yet there isn't.

I mean, your team members might as well be actual players you can play with instead of just reviving them for more ammo.

your teammates have as much use as a discarded cigarette in this game.  Unless co-op was something like in Jet Force Gemini where one player was the star and the friend plays support, don't know how it would work out.  And two dudes in suits would be bbc dp on the entire enemy force.

Why would this game need co-op? Bayonetta was great without co-op.
And seeing how skill based this is, what if one or two party members flat out suck and you have to take care of their asses all of the time.
Co-op would be just frustrating for this game.

fuck it's gonna bomb ;_;

Reading the gaf thread & here, there seems to be two groups of reactions to this demo:
group 1: omg, best TPS ever.  Japan should take over the TPS genre.
group 2: meh, it's no Gears/Bayonetta.  Japanese devs shouldn't be doing FPS/TPS.

I still haven't had time to try it :X
