Game looks like Fable 2.

But I'm still interested in it.

Fable 1 was a huge disappointment, Fable 2 was fun but hardly amazing. Mildly interested, but there's no way I pick it up at full price.

It's not so much that I had expectations for either game, because I didn't. I didn't follow the development of either, didn't particularly know or care what was promised or hyped with either. I just had hopes. I played the first one and thought if only they could do a few things better, place more emphasis on a solid narrative, Fable 2 would be great.

And then, of course, Fable 2 continued to be an utterly pointless experience.

Fool me once, twice, three times a lady? Er, um... no.

Liking Fable 2 is one thing. Believing Molyneux, that's just silly. The dude is connected to some genuine classics, but these days, the dude is all PR. And a good one; people buy what he says, every time.

I ignored most of the press for Fable 1 and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't play through it again, as I got 100% the first time I went through, but it's far from a bad game. I ignored most of the press on Fable 2 and I'll try it out and probably come away with the same opinion.

My only real issue with Lionhead's games is that their art styles are strange as fuck.

Fable 1's art is ugly as fuck all, almost to the point where I could barely stand looking at the damn thing.  Fable 2 however was a pretty big improvement imo.  It still has that weird Lionhead aesthetic but at least the game can actually look somewhat impressive at times - like at the beginning of the game when you're playing as the little kid in the city.  Fable 2 is much easier on the eyes.

Fable is a strange series for me.  I'm never excited about them when they're announced or released but I've always really enjoyed playing them.

The only thing I don't really like about the Fable style is how exaggerated character proportions get.  I almost don't want to get stronger so I don't look like the hulk.

yeah, but I'm ultimately going to find enjoyment from hearing him pitch it.  Watch the IGN interview.  He says "powerful" thirty times, and every other word is "man" usually following "that's just cool" ("This is all about making you feel powerful.  That's just cool, man!"  It's hilarious to see him hate on Fable 2 and make Fable 3 sound like the greatest thing ever.

Imagine, just imagine, being given a sword that if you use for good it will incorporate the virtue you've displayed unto itself...but what if you use your sword for evil?!? Buy Fable 3 to further examine the human condition.

I wish they'd just jettison the whole expression thing altogether.  The core gameplay in Fable is fun as is but the pointless interactions like farting in someone's face is about as pointless as it gets.  Molyneux can shove those extreme morphs up his butt.

I wish they'd just jettison the whole expression thing altogether.

They have apparently. But replaced it with something equally weird.

Quote
Peter Molyneux has said that the Fable series should no longer be considered an RPG, but more of an action/adventure series.

This revelation was announced during X10 last night, when Lionhead was showing Fable III to attendees.

“I’m not sure I even call Fable an RPG anymore,” he said (via CVG). “Certainly not a 1990s RPG, for sure. In a way, you could look at it and say it’s like an action adventure.

“There’s a lot of drama, there a lot of story, there’s a lot of emotion in there – but with leveling up. I love that leveling up. I’m not the sort of person that likes being given a pre-planned character and told ‘this is you no matter what’” .

Other than the HUD changes announced last night, the expression system has been removed, with the developers opting for a touch system instead.

Now, instead of frowning, smiling and the like, you will be able to drag, fondle, hug, shake, and more.

The touch system sounds cool (warning: molyneux).  Like, one example he mentioned was grabbing someone making a ruckus and dragging them to the dungeon.

Touching?  Oh fuck me.  So instead of farting you can hug someone?  I'm not sure how that's exactly different but then again I haven't read anything about Fable 3 either.

Sounds like some Natal bullshit if you ask me.

I'm looking forward to it, for all their flaws Fable games always keep me interested right to the end.

I'd like to see them cut down the general "clunkiness" of the game, it seems to be a trait of Fable in terms of interface, command and menu responsiveness, animations, and framerate.

It's become a pastime of mine to cut through Molyneaux's bullshit.

so basically---

press d-pad to deploy wings
weapons look different if you're good or bad
touch your fake girlfriend

sounds awesome.

Fable's a fun time killer and I wouldn't mind if they just presented these games as is...but they're always like "EXPERIENCE A WORLD FULL OF EMOTION AND FEELINGS AND PLANT A SEED AND WATCH IT GROW AND GET AIDS BUT FIND THE CURE" and in reality, it's like some kooky english fantasy world that doesn't even take itself seriously with a bunch of very shallow game mechanics.

Lionhead responded accordingly: Your hero's physical growth is now determined by their weapon choice. Pick a broad-sword and you'll emerge a beefcake; opt for a pistol and you'll stay skinny.

I kept my female character an archer with no strength to avoid the bulky look.  Otherwise it was no fun to play dress-ups. :elephant

Molyneux wants to make a dumb game dumber.

I didn't mind Fable 2, but that game was really simple. I thought it was going to have this complex interaction system instead I just boned heaps of broads, fathered a whole heap of illegitimate children and used the same 2 moves over and over to do so - that goes for fighting and boning.

:piss Interaction through emotes :piss2

Fable 2 was fun, but I didn't feel compelled to complete it. Framerate issues were dire, and even with a HDD load my 360's fans were going like it was trying to VTOL off my TV stand. I'm not sure what the game thought it was trying to process, but I suspect their graphics programmers just aren't up to the task they were attempting. And whatever they were attempting didn't seem an order of magnitude more challenging than other games of its time period.

I didn't really give a shit about Fable when it was released but ended up liking it even though it was incredibly short and fucking beyond ugly.

I couldn't have cared less about Fable 2 when it was announced or leading up to its release but I found it to be a lot of fun when I sat down and played it even though it was way too easy.

And now Fable 3.  Don't really care, the trailer looks uninteresting, Lionhead's design aesthetic is still kind of creepy, etc. but in the end I'll probably end up liking this one too.

I don't know if I want this yet.  It sounds like they're making the life sim stuff I enjoyed in Fable 2 better, but aren't fixing the quests and RPG stuff  Fable 2 quests and RPG stuff were really weak and even after finishing the story I never felt like I accomplished anything.  It sounds like the focus is now more on interacting with people in the town, making promises and keeping them, then farting their face or dragging them to the pub to fart in their face.

I've noticed my opinions have become less extreme. When you buy games, it becomes a big investment of money so I use to judge things more harshly. Now that I play whatever I want, whenever I want, I don't feel the need to overly rant since I'm not getting burned on buying things.
