Yes, but that's not a compelling argument as it still lets you play the game. You unlock fusion and the works right in the first dungeon. You can use slinks to your advantage from the first dungeon. Persona 3 doesn't dictate how the player plays the game
the game stops you from advancing forcing you to do those s.link even if you don't want to do them (not to mention you can't skip them) if that's not "dictating how the player plays the game" then i don't know what that is
you telling me that "you can still do fusion!" would be like me going "you can still go back in the tube and fight monster until you rack enough money!"
In FF13, you can't change your party until 20 hours in because - you guessed it - the party is always split up.
and out of curiosity how long does it take before you have a full party in persona 3/4? it takes quite a while, but it's not a problem for persona
You can't customize your party leader until 25 hours in. Character customization is completely locked until you beat chapters. You can't choose any role you want until you're 25 hours into the game.
your choice of customization in persona are reduced to what persona you use and do you ever want to use anything different than "the one that comes with the spell the monster are weak to it"? and heck you can't even customize your party member, why it's not a problem for persona?
The game doesn't let you explore
there is nothing to explore in persona game since all you have are empty random dungeon
persona shits over the FF games in terms of story
maybe ff8

guys save the world in generic fantasy = OMG THIS IS SO DULL AND DRAB I HATE EVERYTHING
guys save the world in modern tokyo = OMG THIS IS AWESOME
that is the perceved reality and why i have to hear people talk about mother 3 like is the hamlet of gaming
both series have decent stories but i really hate some plot point of persona here and there
for example
spoiler (click to show/hide)
hanako, they kill her for 5 minutes straight BECAUSE WE DESPERATELY NEED TO KILL SOMEONE FOR DRAMA,either you kill the little kid permanently,or you don't... same that red haired chick of persona 3 but at least she die for good... no wait now that i think about it wasn't there a sidequest that resurrected her or something, isn't that just plain distinguished mentally-challenged? how about everyone has to go "U ARE NOT ME!!!1!" because the game need some excuse for you to fight the dark version of the character? does the plot of persona 3 ever takes any step forward than "there is this giant monster,go and kill it" does the plot of persona 4 ever takes any step forward than "there is this guy in the tv,go and save him" before you save the last guy? do we really need the hadachi plot twist? heck do we really need the "the gas station attendant is a god" plot twist? that's a bigger "flea from the space" than the ones that final fantasy pull off!
you guys go play tales of legendia, then you will know when a story is TRULY bad
and not just because there is a scene where the character dance like idiots
