nes and ps1 are BOTH only for nostalgia whores holy fuck this shit im taking burns so bad.  both had amazing games at the time but were loaded with shit technical problems and dev teams that were trying to really figure their way around new technology.  they still have some fun games (ps1 much more so than nes, natch) but damn near every good idea has been taken and done better in later games on much better systems.

Action oriented games? SOTN, Internal Section, Einhander, Adventures of Little Ralph, Umihara Kawase Shun, Tail Concerto, Klonoa, the MM Legends games (haven't played these though), Tomba, R-Type Delta, and of course Strider 2.

I agree with Beezy in regards to 3d action games, but 3d action wasn't really perfected until Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 4. That said, for about every single genre ASIDE from 3d action, from puzzle games to racing to platformers to rpgs to 2d shooters to niche, quirky shit the original playstation kicked the snot out of the ps2. Ps2 has more numbers, but what psx lacks in numbers it makes up for sheer variety. The only genres I can think of that are notably better on the ps2 are sports games (ssx > cool boarders), 3d platformers, and 3d action.

But ps2 is still second.

Depends. A lot of the ps2 fighting game ports aren't too hot, like MvC2. But then, so are psx's. All the best fighters were on Saturn, and if they were on other systems, they were BETTER on Saturn. As for ps2...Soul Calibur 2 and 3 are aight. Tekken Tag was fun. Virtua Fighter 4 and 4 EVO are the stand outs. I wouldn't say ps2 was really that great of a fighter console. A lot of its best fighters were already 2-4 years old. I'd say Dreamcast is the fighting game machine.

This gen is already better than ps2 in terms of fighting games.

Positive Touch how are these long?  And it's not like it's a psx issue either. It's a problem with disc media period. FF12's load times can be long too. I don't really mind loading so long as they're not like 20 second loads every single time.

Like I said, it depends on the game. Legacy of Kain was awful, while Final Fantasy 8 was pretty fast. Tony Hawk was alright, while games like Ridge Racer were pretty solid.

The whole "all psx games had long load times" thing, is definitely overstated.

himu i'm talking about the loading you see when leguna leaves the house.  it's like 4 seconds which doesn't seem like much, but when it only takes a few seconds to cross each map it gets annoying fast.  also the battle loading was noticeably longer than 7 or 9. way too much time looking at camera swoops.  anyway not really worth arguing over since 8's not one of the more extreme examples.  nothing pulls me out of a game and tests my patience like seeing a screen that says "NOW LOADING" and i had to stare at waaay too many of those back in the day.  really hampered my enjoyment of lots of ps1 games.

I hate "now loading" too. It takes you out of the game. I'm playing RE4 wii and the inclusion of "now loading" -- which was NOT in my GC version btw! -- pisses me off. But honestly, I just don't mind the load times in FF8. I actually think they're pretty good for a disc based game. Loading has never bothered me except for extreme examples. I just have lots of patience I guess.
