Left Alive seems to be Left for Dead more like...
Quote
When the game launched last week, players were able to stream from the PlayStation 4 for everything except Left Alive’s cutscenes. Now everything has been disabled. As for user reviews, the same Amazon Japan where the game is 44 percent off features a user rating of 1.8 (of 5). It’s getting smacked by players for broad, fundamental things like design, controls and graphics.

Famitsu’s impressions earlier this month called it a very difficult game oriented toward advanced players and those familiar with the Front Mission series. Survival is the emphasis of the survival-action shooter, where enemies have a wide detection radius and “it is practically impossible to power your way through, even on the lowest difficulty.” Save points are few and far between, too.

Part of me is glad though... Too many other games in the pipe already.

Expected.  It looked janky af and I still want to play it...just waiting for it to drop to a bomba price to pick it up.

Sounds like it's just kind of shit.

Too bad. Without an actual MGS a replacement could have worked. With some actual money and maybe technical talent this could have been it. It also could have been an actual hit for Square.

But I guess they needed another Mind Jack.

I still don't understand how this game happened. It comes across like a passion project from the head of a mid-tier Eastern European publisher, not an internally-developed S-E joint.

I don't understand how it turned out so bad.

I think it was given a few years of development.

https://www.siliconera.com/2015/06/08/square-enix-japan-developing-new-front-mission-game/

So at least it was probably in production for a bit.

The engine it runs on is the Orochi 4 engine which from what I could tell has powered things like World of Final Fantasy. It's also a middle ware engine by Silicone Studio who from what I can tell have had plenty of technical experince.

Getting Yoji Shinkawa and Takayuki Yanase were probably not cheap, but are also pretty inspired choices. Which also are talents that could generate plenty of interests and plenty of merchandise to sell to the enthusiasts market. Artbooks, models, and so on would probably easily have been sold had the game been well received.

I guess from what I can tell this is the first sole console project from the developer.

http://www.ilinx.co.jp/works

So maybe that was the weak link.

Such a shame though.

Eh I don't think that really explains it, especially this gen.

They are one of the few publishers still putting out smaller AA games and plenty of them still feel polished and at least competent.

I mean yeah they've had plenty of misfires like that Mana remake, but they've had plenty of things like Nier, World of FF, Octopath Traveler, and so on. I'd say most of thier output has been ok. Even the low budget Tokyo Factory games biggest crime is that they are boring games, not shitty games. Hell, the new one looks ok though.

They certainly haven't been as bad as last gen, but I guess this is thier Mind Jack for this gen.

I remember back in 93/94 he was on one of the Usenet newsboards like rec.arts.video-games or something like that.  There were some of the editors and writers from EGM, Gamepro, Gamefan, etc. on there as well.  People were just as douche as now, probably even more so, because you had the real system warriors crusading back then.

other than touring (which he's actually been doing the last decade or so) you wouldn't think he did any less than a "real" rockstar:
Quote
His home in San Juan Capistrano looks as if a 12-year-old with a huge bank account went wild. It includes a life-size Indiana Jones, a Spider-Man room streaked with real spider webs, a Disney room with an original drawing of Pinocchio, a framed celluloid still from a vintage 1940s Bugs Bunny cartoon, a clutch of full-size "Star Wars" characters and, by the pool, a statue of Merlin lurking near a lawn tiger bought in Las Vegas.

"These are all the things I grew up with," he said. "I'm making a Willy Wonka section right now."

The Terminator on Sega CD is top-notch, especially with the Q Sound.  I used to play that a lot in college after ingesting particular substances.

I know people who bought Left Alive. It sounds like it's not worth it even for free. It's bad and frustratingly difficult.

I wonder if they're gonna redo the CGs. Those were some of the cheapest, lowest-res things I've ever seen, even by 3DS standards. :lol Game's pretty good though, I need to get around to finishing it.

Labo is shovelware. I loved when manbabies said in the beginning that it would be "amazing for schools, you can't bash this!!". Like, you think this trash would be a good educational tool just because your lord Nintendo said so in PR?  :lol

Anybody tried Ground Branch? How is it as a tac. shooter for coop PvE? Watched a video, but looked damn janky tbh, i don't mind jank too much, but if it gets in the way of gameplay, it's probably best to wait.

Someone at work posted some video of a VR Game tech demo. I looked at the person who posted it Reddit's comment history and discovered they had quit their job and begun teaching themself how to use Unity and thought they were gonna release this full game in 2019. I felt bad for them.

I think that video shows off every employee they have over the age of 30. Also, I remember a few of those guys from my brief stint contracting at Crystal Dynamics... don't remember anything about them but ugh did that bring back bad memories.

Is there actually any legit rumour pointing to Google entering console market? It's gonna be too many fucking systems on the market. I already ditched xbox this gen, but I could see google delivering some interesting unlike MS.
