Gamestop‘s original business model could still work even with physical sales being down. Not with their horrific overexpansion though. They still need to close like 85% of their remaining stores to become viable again.

There’s a piece of me thst looks at that and says “it’s not really a bad idea and it could maybe work, but imo there is no possible way GameStop would be able to pull it off.

There’s a reason why most local game stores for like Warhammer are run by some dork that has built 20K points of Sisters of Battle. You need to have passion to make that stuff work and you can’t get it from people working McJobs.

I believe it was tracked down to a UK Nintendo magazine when it was posted a few years ago, maybe even on NeoGAF.com. I can try to look it up if anyone wants.

Next Generation was pretty favorable to 2D games in my opinion, they scored SOTN with four stars, Abe got four stars, to pick two from an issue I randomly opened. (Even Mega Man X 4 gets three stars, which is "good" and a "it's tempting to dismiss this out of hand but...") They would savage 3D games for being 3D just because, especially N64 garbage. I do recall them being a bit down on 2D fighters, especially ones that did small changes as re-releases.

A dirty little secret that they later admitted to when rebranded as NextGen is that all the "reviewers" were the same ones as at Ultra Game Players, PSM and other imagine media people. They just copied EDGE early on by having a "singular anonymous magazine voice" and since those people were already playing/reviewing the games anyway...

Also tweeted that next fiscal year will have 3 big Capcom games and a smaller one. I was too lazy to research whether this guy has real proven knowledge, but it's being reported as news on some sites.

God I really hope Kojima's involvement is minimal. Incapable of doing anything even remotely subtle, and will use the chance to work with c grade hollywood actors instead of making a good game. If they were serious, they would get Masahiro Ito back in. Hell even try to convince Tsuboyama.

Been here before and burnt too many times. I'll believe it when these games actually come out on release date. In the main time I'll just play all these horror games that are actually out.

Don’t see what’s so crazy about the rumor.

Things like FFVII Remake and Shenmue 3 gained Sony plenty of mindshare. I’m sure Sony threw some money to make VIIR 1 year exclusive. They need projects big or small that do similar things. An exclusive Silent Hill PS5 game would easily fit the bill. As popular as Spider-man? No but neither is BloodBorne or the like. Would still be a note worthy game in thier PS5 portfolio.

The ip still means something and is a well known name. Not like a decent looking sequel wouldn’t gain attention. Especially now with the legacy of Silent Hills.

Konami let Cy Games do whatever with Zone of the Enders 2. Don’t seem to stop Warren Ellis doing whatever with Castlevannia. Why would it be crazy for them to allow Sony to develop or fund the development of a Silent Hill? Not like they’d have to do much and it keeps the ip relevant. Sony also gets a title that has instant cache. I also doubt it would cost anywhere near what something like The Last of Us 2 or whatever.

Dead Genre? How? Resident Evil 2 was one of the highest rated games of last year. If anything it’s wet the appetite for similar revivals.

That said, I have no idea if the rumor is true. I just don’t think it’s that crazy. Seems like the perfect thing to have at the beginning of a new gen.
