I'm not a fan of PS3 overall, but I glanced over a recommendation thread recently elsewhere and was interested in a couple of opinions.

One thing I'd be slightly interested in catching up on is Sly Cooper. Does anyone here find these games good? The trilogy is pretty expensive rn. I always thought it looked fun and I don't mind mascots with a 'tude. But only if they shut up like in early Sonic or Crash Bandicoot. These PS2 era ones always seem to go way too heavy on the story/not shutting up side, so I don't know whether to finally bite on this?

Also Ridge Racer 7 is very often mentioned as a classic. Did anyone here find it great too? Videos make it look pretty generic (and I still have Motorstorm in my PS3 backlog anyway...).

They're solid collectathon platformers with simple stealth mechanics to fit the thief theme. The story bits fall completely in the saturday morning cartoon kinda writing.

They basically follow the Crash Bandicoot/Spyro route were the 3rd game added a lot gimmicky levels.

What I find difficult about the PS3/Xbox 360 era is the framerate. Most games didn't run very well compared to games today.

I'm ok with the visual hit but the sub 30 fps is just a turn-off for me now. Unless it is something oozing with nostalgia like the N64.
I also feel that performance was better in most PS2/Xbox/GameCube games when developers were still aiming for either 30 or 60 fps.

Luckily most games can either be played on PC (often as better editions too) or in the case of Xbox they are backwards compatible.
I don't have a lot of nostalgia for the 360/PS3 era anymore.

I like the Ridge Racer games but you pretty much know what you're gonna get... solid racing titles, some tight controls, some quality pumping electronic music. I'd say they're above average - The only Ridge Racer that I think would be truly 'classic' would be the 4th one on PS1 - its graphics were extremely ahead of the curve, soundtrack was phenomenal, and it had some impressive UI design for a game of that era (that still looks great today).

Come on... Sid Meier's Pirates is still a great game.

I had this on my iPad, and just recently tried to fired up and play again, but it’s been removed from the iOS iTunes Store. Bummer.

They finally discovered the source of the vocal snippet in Xenogears boss battle theme. It's from the trial of Marlon Brando's son for murder - "Total sentence imposed is 10 years in state prison".
Always sounded like "total section are ass kicked" to me.

'remaster'

 :lol

Keep in mind the previous EA 'remaster' which basically was just 1:1 with the original and in some cases the original looks better

Yeah I miss Mass Effect too, especially when it was good like the first game.

Dont be an idiot and buy this shit for 60 bucks though, unless you have money to burn or something.

Its also great the trailer is all cinematics, no gameplay whatsoever. Really shows confidence.

I can't think of any gaming trilogy or series that did what Mass Effect did in one console generation. Taking your main character through a trilogy of games where attention was given to small and big choices you made, in a brand new science fiction universe, while feeling like a large scale space war opera.....

Nothing has come remotely close. Mass Effect Andromeda was a failure not just because of its fucked up development, but there clearly was no vision for what sequels came after it's release.

For new Mass Effect to work, it has to be a trilogy that gets delivered over the course of six to seven years. You can't have one Mass Effect in a console generation. That's not living up to what the original series did.

Are you confusing remaster and remake?

A remaster is mostly the original code running on more modern hardware with little tweaks like running the PC High/ultra setting as opposed to the most likely low quality settings that the original consoles games had and maybe a 60fps mode.

Sounds a lot like Cyberpunk in 2020  :teehee

Mass Effect to me entails the entire trilogy, not just Mass Effect 1. The worse part of 1 is the side content and mako driving. In Mass Effect 2 it's the mining mini game. In Mass Effect 3 it's the ending.

Dunno, never had those issues with Cyberpunk but I know you're joking.

Never played 3, had a good enough time with 1 and 2 that I never bothered to go and actually play 3.

Started it a few times, but it never grabbed me either.

ME1 was great, ME2 was already getting worse because of the entire mission, the entire game was the mission and there werent a lot of cool interesting side missions if I remember correctly.

Let's not get into remake/remaster because companies will call it whatever they want.

So lets not call it a 'remaster', let's just call it what we always called it. A port.

It's still a remaster.

Port means going from one platform to the other. That you don't understand what the words mean is something different.

I know the meaning, but in the past a upscaled version that was ported to another console is very consistent with these 'remasters'.

Since they are basically just the PC version, ported to other platforms.

In this case, the PC version isnt getting so much a 'port' as the same version sold with some graphic fidelity improvements.

So yes it is a port. Its the PC version ported to consoles.

You're right. It's a niche lil RPG series that EA has remastered because there's definitely no demand for it. They just wanted to launder FIFA money or something.

The Mass Effect series was incredible, at the scale it delivered :lawd
I remember jumping in with ME2 on PC and was just blown away by it, next I played Mass Effect 1 because I just wanted more Mass Effect and finally when it came out Mass Effect 3 on day one.
The best set of RPG's of the 360/PS3 era probably. There's other WRPG games I have a soft spot for from that era like Deus Ex: Human Revolution but Mass Effect was just in a different league.
A lot of things that happened that generation have since been improved upon or I've simply forgotten about.

Mass Effect remains legendary to this day.
