hashiriya1 at shmups.org translated a (fairly old) interview that Famitsu 360 did with shooting game developers from Cave, Konami, G.Rev, Gulti, Moss, Triangle Service, and even M2. "Asada (Cave): Because our specialty is danmaku shooters, we must have many different modes. Furthermore, we must produce sales for these arcade port and systems as well. All of this must be done with strict budgets since we are only producing the game for the XBOX360, a system that not many people have. We must sell at least 50,000 copies of a game. Yeah, I thought that was pretty strange. Maybe he means sell 50,000 to retailers? I remember reading (ages ago) that for X360 games, the minimum amount of copies you can print is 50k, which is a hurdle for niche games. So if they can get rid of everything they print, well then they're happy I suppose. He does mention that Death Smiles was a success, and that only sold what, 25-30k?

At any rate I'm sure Cave is happy with their sales on the 360, considering they keep announcing new games for it.

Hey can any of you recommend a good arcade racer for the PC that'll work okay with a raving wheel?

What is a raving wheel?

There are lots of great arcade racers for PC that work with a wired X360 controller.  Burnout Paradise, Blur, Dirt 2, Sega Rally Revo, Flatout UC, etc...

GRID is a pretty good racing-sim, it's got lots of damage models and it has varying levels of driver assist so you don't have to be a pro to avoid spinning out on every turn. I think there's maybe 60-70 different cars, so it's not a great deal of variety there, but the races are pretty fun [especially once you get the hang of driving] and there's a demolition derby mode that gets pretty wild sometimes. It's supposed to have pretty good wheel support too. I got it in the Steam holiday sale last year for $5.

Dropped into this thread to post my sadness about Epic Mickey. We're post-Thanksgiving in the USA, so I'll be interested to see what this does for the title in this week's sales. Still, very sad day for Disney's foray into using a major developer to bring their core brand to consoles. Wow.

The Mickey Mouse brand doesn't resonate with anyone but pre-schoolers watching Mickey's Clubhouse. Disney sat on the brand for far too long and did nothing to make it relevant for  decades.  Apparently its a bad game too.

Slim is not hackable...yet...people are working on that though
It means that you have to get "jasper"(or older) 360 models if you want to hack it
Best thing is to browse console websites(or ask them) to see what models they have around...probably some of them can hack 360 easily(for a price of course)

Hacking itself is easy if you have,
PC with compatible chipset,you can buy cheap PCI card to do that
SATA cable...easy to get
Right flashing software...easy to find
You have to dismantle 360 to get to DVD drive
Some drives can be bricked though(hitachi)

Get a Ps3. It has the best exclusives.

You can pirate the best X360/multiplatform games on the PC.

Here's the thing about a banned 360. Certain games need specific updates, right? If your 360 is banned how will you be able to download such updates to play your games?

You can download updates with PC and burn them on the disc,or just use usb stick

But that is all pretty pointless because every game disc has the correct updates...you just put the game disc in,it automatically updates your dashboard,game plays...few seconds process

Also 360 is surprisingly the most weeaboo "big" console

Magus' tastes mostly skew towards jrpgs and the occasional plaformer, though. ps3 has more unique jrpgs that he would likely get a lot out of on top of a slew of action adventure games.

I wasn't suggesting ps3 because I'm a ps3 fanboy (I'm really not), but mostly because I think magus would get more mileage out of it as a game system.

I never suggest blindly. If he were someone who was big into fighters or 2d shooters I'd certainly suggest a 360 over a ps3. But that's not the case. Suggesting something to someone expecting them to like it when their tastes lean in another direction is foolish. I have no allegiance to game companies, but to games, magus is in the same category.

If he wants to pirate XBLA he needs a JTAG... which are more hard to come by than a regular flashed box.

If he wants to hack a PS3, he will need one thats jailbreakable... you can run games off HDD. However some later games need the new firmware, and are requiring hacks and such, afaik. You are also just as blocked from going online as you would 360.

For 360, at most you will be blocked from going online and getting title updates. I dont believe you can just download these, maybe you can, I'm not aware.

Both are way beyond magus affordability though
