Team ICO can't even use the excuse that the HD ports took some of their attention away from The Last Guardian, because the port was handled by Bluepoint Games.

really? I feel like its been diminishing returns with them. Portal 2 was just too damn self-aware of its own quirkiness and seemed to have everyman gameplay (huge tips and hints that told you how to solve puzzles.)

i'm 100% positive HL3 is gonna be one of those "sure it has single player, but you're gonna be reminded the whole time that this game was built around co-op" games.

Gradius V was about that long and still was a good game... and I thought Nanostray 2 was a pretty decent game as far as euroshmups go.

I really liked Gradius V. but when I played it I played more for survival (the ultimate goal being a high difficulty 1cc) - I beat it on Normal without using continues and that was fun and all, but does the game have a scoring system? I saw a video on youtube not too long ago and I didn't pick up on any specific quirks - but I'm not that deep into the rabbit hole.

Problem is more that some of them are very poor at commentating and when they try to go the 'hype' route (aka regurgitate yipes' stuff) it sounds forced and off-putting. I think D'nyce is a funny dude, especially when he has spooky's stream chat in his face to egg him on, but the dude can't commentate for shit. Neither can Ski or Tom Brady or half of the other chucklefucks spooky lets on. But what's there to do about it? you can't lock down the few capable people next to spooky and force them to talk through a 48h event. I do wish someone like Ski, who has at least a modicum of understanding of the games and is steadfast in his involvement in the scene, would go back and listen to himself and take some constructive criticism because he seems to really enjoy commentating and it would be nice if he was enjoyable too.

^ Gradius V isn't the most popular game either, but at least Treasure knows what they're doing, more or less. There have been a few decent shooters from western developers, like Jamestown or XOP Black, but they're very, very far from being comparable to the best in the genre.

Nope. Psikyo, Seibu Kaihatsu, Toaplan, Konami, G.rev, Raizing, and plenty of other developers have made lots of great games that aren't bullet hell. Raptor just looks a stereotypical euroshmup (ie. terrible).
