You will be able to, but it'll probably be cheaper to import the physical since it's Scamco.

For reference:  SRW Masou-Kishin I+II went up last week on PSN.  6290yen download.  At Play-Asia a 5000yen card is $90, so that's about $100+  Whereas you can get the physical copy for $62 Asia, $76 JP.  Scamco charges rip off prices for DD.

There is a GAF thread up about it now.

If true I think any of the really talented devs like Volition will eventually be fine. Hell it probably even helps the franchise in the long run if somebody like EA or Activision buys Saints Row and decides to pump it up and try to have their own open world franchise. Kind of like what happened with Mortal Kombat.

I think the opportunity is there for a smart Japanese company to also purchase them if they are serious about making American inroads. THQ has some nice hardcore games. They just need alot of the fat trimmed off and need to be managed and run properly.

I personally like their catalogue more than I liked the Eidos catalogue for example.

I think it's far more likely a Western pub is going to grab them.

I agree also but it would be kinda interesting on the Japanese side.  It seems like something old EA would have snapped up in a second but current EA seems very focused on digital and social.  Which is not to say EA won't poach some of the parts here.

I wonder if WB, 2K or even Microsoft would be interested in THQ as a whole or parts of it. I'd find MS more likely than Sony or Nintendo.

WB makes a lot of sense. Something like Darksiders and Saints Row would immediately make their roster very appealing added in with Mortal Kombat and Batman.

MS doing it would immediately give them some amazing exclusives which they completely lack but the more success Microsoft has in the games industry the more stupid and lazy it seems to make them. So the only thing I can guarantee is MS will completely ignore this situation.  :maf

A hungry MS is actually a good thing. They take some chances and do so interesting things. Some of it may not work out but if it does it can pay big dividends. I don't think MS is in that hungry phase with the Xbox right now. I'm not sure when they will kick it in gear again although with next gen coming right about now would be a good time. Who is going to make the Xbox Launch titles outside of 343 and Halo X.

The THQ thing is sad because THQ Montreal with Patrice Désilets off of Assassin's Creed 2 recently started up.  That project will probably be canceled.

The good thing is that Square Enix / Eidos is all over Montreal (3 main Eidos Montreal teams and growing, plus 2 Square Enix Montreal teams and growing) and recently picked up the cancelled True Crime Hong Kong game.  Would be cool if they do the same here.

And maybe sound crazy, but if Valve is entering other genre with DOTA2, acquiring Relic would probably be the best way to break into RTS games.  Rebrand Company of Heroes as Day of Defeat Armiez or something

Here I am finally getting into the SR games and now the chances of SR4 ever coming out with the same staff seem pretty grim.  Was looking forward to it :(

Personally I hope SquareEnix buys THQ because they've done very, very good with how they treat Eidos and it's been successful for both gamers and shareholders alike.  Buy THQ, do the same thing, problem solved.  Plus more reasons to like SquareEnix!

Oh, it would absolutely be a great pick-up for them in the magical world where Nintendo would actually want them and be smart enough to leave them more or less alone to keep doing their thing, but we live in a world where Nintendo is fiscally conservative to the point of self-injury and would put the Saint's Row team on a Clu Clu Land remake.

Sounds good to me, I love me some Clu Clu Land and would kill for an update to that franchise...

Interesting.  That thing happened so quickly I didn't notice Eidos was on its way out.  Surprisingly it's only done good for Eidos.  Lara Croft & GoL, Deus Ex HR, new Hitman could be solid, and new Tomb Raider has potential.  Even K&L2 was a neat game despite being a bomba and only worth about $10.

Next one to go down? Pick a publisher who relies on licensing and has little to no strong internal IP, seems to be a common theme this gen.

cing's a developer, not a publisher, tiesto.  if we got into developers it would take forever to list all the ones that went tits up everywhere in the world this gen.

konami and capcom might be creatively dead to you, but i was talking about finances, not pony magic.  financially both companies are fine.

anyway, now that thq is down, bets on the next big publisher to bite it?  my money's on atari.

That... actually doesn't really match any of the three major pubs that took a spill so far.  In fact, THQ kind of got in shit when they *stopped* relying on licensing and started actively developing good internal IP.

I thought THQ was in some shit before they made that change, and this change just made things worse since none of the new IP stuck. And even their 2012 lineup still has a bunch of licences - UFC, WWE, Warhammer, Brave.

Midway had some good IP but had a some dumb licencing (TNA Wrestling for example) as well. Granted Eidos doesn't fit that at all, but I still think that the best bet for next to go down is someone who is living off the popularity of outside IP.

I thought THQ failed because of Homefront mostly.  People say it sold ok, but it was price dropping everywhere and they pumped a ton of money into that game and the marketing hoping it would be the next CoD.  That and the U-Draw thing.

Wasnt that Acclaim?  :-\
What happens to the WWE license depends on what happens exactly to THQ and what the exact terms of their license is, but I suspect in more potential cases than not it would just revert back to the WWE.
Would be fun times watching what happens to this license. I used to like those games back on ps1/ps2

Man, the butthurt Nintendo fans flocking to the THQ thread is really sad.  Did they miss the memo that one of the PREMIER Wii-U games is a THQ game? And that they still got stuff like De Blob on Wii which all the Nfans made threads and sang praises about it being an awesome exclusive game (and then conveniently were missing for the sequel when it was multi-platform).

Can't believe after all these years Nfans are still pulling the "Company X missed the boat by not supporting the Wii with AAA titles right off the bat, they should die in a fire set by Iwata-sama"

Hardcore Nintendo fans are insane, nothing would please them more than HD industry going down--"see,that is what you get for not supporting Nintendo Wii"

anyway

THQ released some PR
Quote
“THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO,” THQ’s Australian PR arm wrote in a statement.

“As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids’ boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

“Additionally, we are thrilled with the great performance of Saints Row: The Third, which on a like for like period in North America has tripled in sell-through from Saints Row 2. In addition, WWE ’12’s worldwide sell-through sales are up almost 40% year-over-year for the same sales period with fewer platforms. According to NPD, for the month of December and the 2011 year, THQ was the #5 publisher overall, #4 third party, with reported sell through growing over 18% in a market that was down almost 6%. And coming up next, we have two great titles for the first half of the year including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders 2.”
