[Update: Gibeau "clarified" what he said to Kotaku by basically repeating what he said originally in a more flowery way. It's barely worth an update but I was getting smarmy messages from smug gimboids about it, so here you go.

"What I said was [about not greenlighting] anything that [doesn't have] an online service. You can have a very deep single-player game but it has to have an ongoing content plan for keeping customers engaged beyond what's on the initial disc. I'm not saying deathmatch must come to Mirror's Edge."

He added that games are to be thought of as services now, and went on to say that you, "need to have a social experience where you're part of a large community." EA knows what you need better than you do, after all.]

Electronic Arts' games label boss Frank Gibeau has revealed that he's not let any solely single-player games pass through his gates, ensuring that absolutely every single title the company publishes has an online component.

"We are very proud of the way EA evolved with consumers," he said. "I have not green lit one game to be developed as a singleplayer experience. Today, all of our games include online applications and digital services that make them live 24/7/365.

"One of our biggest growth opportunities is Play4Free titles that allow customers to play at no cost and make purchases via microtransactions. We see this as a huge opportunity, and one that’s powered by our hybrid cloud model."

With co-op coming to Dead Space 3 and multiplayer rumored for Dragon Age 3, it seems that the idea of solo-oriented experiences is now dead to EA. As is variety, it seems. The inexorable march towards videogames becoming one indistinguishable mass of grey sludge continues.

:piss EA :piss2

The new 84" 4K TV from Sony is $25,000. It's going to be five years until they reach acceptable levels for the mainstream market.

I'm not saying it's a bad game overall, it's just a really good RPG made somewhat tedious at times because of being tied to dull MMO tropes. So, yeah, I'd say it's worth playing.

just wait until it's F2P all together. you'll be able to see all of the story content for your character for free. TBH, that's what the draw is. at least fo rme.

Guess I'll have to. I attempted to repair it(this is my 2nd time) and now the thing wont turn on. Well this is a real shitty day. I don't really want to have to buy another PS3.

There's that new model of PS3 that is supposed to come out.  With any luck, that should be $149-199.  Best to wait.  It isn't like there is tons of compelling content on the PS3 coming out now anyway, except Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and that game isn't going away anytime soon.  Hell, if you wait a month or two you could probably get it for $30 or less.

Oh I didn't know that. Guess I will wait. I mean I do have an Xbox so I still have something to play. The real shame though is that this is a backwards compatibility model and well yeah...

Do new slims use the same hard drive? I mean I'll want to move my saves and stuff over you know?

Yeah I've messed with emulators, but I dunno. Call me a purist, but there's something special about playing a retro console on a good ol' CRT, gripping that cheap plastic controller in your hands.

And also stupid. What are you going to do when you don't want it anymore? Nobody wants a Super Famicom. Just emulate the J-games and play your superior american gaijin games with your plastic dildo.

EDIT: I guess I'm just interested in building a SNES collection but the games for the SNES are too expensive to get, especially complete. From what I've seen browsing around, Super Famicom games are a lot cheaper.

You can just buy an SNES controller, one of these things http://www.amazon.com/SNES-Controller-Adapter-USB-Super-NES/dp/B002IXZ5DE , and just play on an emulator

There is. I've never been able to get into Emulators. I don't know what it is, but I like playing them with the controller they were made for and on an old CRTV.

Didn't South Korea consider legislation earlier this year banning chance based microtransactions?  re: TF2 could theoretically be banned in SK because of random crates that drop and keys required to open them.

I don't think it actually passed, but I remember it raising a ruckus.

I don't know about South Korea, but Japan actually passed some legislation this year against "complete gatcha", a gameplay element that many Japaneses social/mobile companies were abusing in their games.  Complete gatcha requires players to collect an entire set of randomly distributed pay items, which gives them a random chance of winning another, more rare item from a more rare set.  It's banned now.  Japan might go farther at some point, I suppose.

Of course, they do all this while turning a complete blind eye to pachinko, but that's laws for ya.

Yeah, that's some happy horse-puckey, right there.

I wonder if collectible card games and booster packs are illegal, if they also support benefits for having a collection of randomly distributed cards in them. I'm guessing... no.

I don't know man. These Wii U threads big to differ.

It's a shame my PS3 did'nt go out a couple of weeks before when I actually had the money to buy another one.

Seriously, in the end I probably will end up buying a new PS3. But it's not something I want to do at all, I mean I still have a launch 360 kicking and see no point in updating as long as it works. And even if I got a new one, I would still have this old thing sitting around, might as well do something with it. I believe I can fix it and besides I just kind of want to see if I can anyway.

But I guess I may have to dig deeper. I bet Cheapassgamer's forums may be able to have some answers.

My brothers PS3 died yesterday.  It was a Spiderman 180gig.  He's going to sodder fix it.  He never ever plays videogames and then he started playing Red Dead Redemption when I got it for him in May and he's like 60-70% through the game now so he's pretty pissed about losing that save.  He's gonna get it running, pull the RDR save and then toss the system and get a new one since he does use it as a BD player.

When my PS3 died, I just brought it to a local place and paid them $50 and did the system transfer to a new one.

Speaking of PS3s, I'm not sure where to put this but I'm putting it here.

95% of my PS3 time is either Netflix or Amazon Video.  Mostly Netflix though.  However every time I load up Netflix, I get a message saying my account has been deactivated.  So every time I use the program, I have to sign in, which is obnoxious.  Sometimes I want to just flop down, load up Netflix, select a TV show, and zone out.  I even got a PS3 remote for this purpose of course.

It's pissing me off :maf
