I honestly didn't realize that the lead character of Horizon was a chick until my friend corrected me. Thought it was supposed to be a legolas-lookin dude.

Wut.

Ehh people are upset because me1 and 2 had decent to great writing. The mood and atmosphere is unlike many other games. Especially me1 has a very decent story.

This new game just looks like a fake ass turd

I mean, is fun to see the contrast between TB apologist review of how story or dialogue doesn't matter that much for immersion and how side quest and colony building was sweet and Brad in the Bombcast arguing the game is not that fun to begin with or the colony building is actually a little more disconnected that he liked just to filling a bar and get some shitty dialogue.

I don't doubt that I can get a kick out of this game given that I liked stuff like Dragon Age Inquisition or the mo filler side quests to rebuilt colonies in Xenoblade X, but I feel like people should aknowledge that people get kicks out from different things in Mass Effect games (or video games in general).

i want destiny 2, but if it doesn't have better matchmaking, the ability to create and request groups, and in-game communication, then I'm skipping. fuck using reddit for party formation.

It's weird; I agree with both these guys' observations. I know that's the writers' goal to some degree, but it's still surprising. I had just been wondering the other day why Watch_doges is not part of the Assassins Creed continuity. Seems like it could have been easily connected.

(Yes, I know about the easter eggs.)

That Outcast remake is almost as painful to look at as the Unreal Engine 7896274987 remake of System Shock. Let the past be.

Re-using the old voice acting (and possibly the animations?) sticks out pretty bad, but aside from that it's fiiine.

There's a larger conversation which can take place here about what is acceptable to outsource and what's not. Or what is "outsourcing" vs. "calling a specialist." There's an easy equation to determine which is which: if it costs less than internal dev, it's outsourcing. These anims do not look like they were handled by a specialty house.

Man, if they could borrow Hello Games' No Man's Sky tech. It would have all been worth it.

Alas, we don't live in a just universe.

For sure. The wide eyed stares and the stupid smirk on female Ryder's neutral (!) facial expression speak volumes.

They suggest it basically looks about the same as the old PC version maxed out. (After the ini's were unlocked and fixed and stuff, if you remember they locked all sorts of stuff and then protected the config files at launch.) Unlike say the BioShock (or Batman) Remasters that did some various stuff around the edges with effects and texture stuff due to engine changes to various degrees of success.

Also you can play as Duke Nukem.

And GFWL is gone. Instead it has Denuvo.

So I guess no reason to pick it up on PC? It's 15% off for launch (which is still $43), no discount for owning the original like BioShock and others did. Also the original version isn't broken by GFWL, it works fine in offline mode IIRC.

I mean Bulletstorm was a really good game. Surprisingly even. It even had an actual decent story.

It's just yeah theres too much out and $60 is kind of ridiculous.

Bought a second n64 to customize it it, expect pics soon.

I also acquired a  N64 Everdrive, it's pretty damn nice but I take back what I said about the snes library, the N64 lineup is much crappier than I remembered. The everdrive itself is rad -- a lot of people are doing all sorts of hacks for the thing, such as Golden Eyes X, which is the entire GoldenEye game ported into the Perfect Dark engine. It's a bit buggy, I need to spend more time with it

Random fact: Goldeneye had a 16:9 mode, and it works fine on a modern lcd. I had no idea about this. I completely ignored the n64 back in the days. Dat framerate tho..  :doge

There are lots of protos and betas to check out, so I'm going to be exploring this in the coming days.

The FORCED music you have to immediately mute for cracked PC games are hilarious. Lately CODEX is all about Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up." Had I not heard it for a previous game I'd probably laugh even harder at it being used for Bayonetta.

Zeboyd's Phantasy Star inspired RPG is finally out:

not really anything new if you've spent time with this stuff, but there is an interesting aspect where Richard was already working in games journalism at the time (on official Saturn magazine for the UK) and he's obviously not a fan of going back to old technology like John :lol

and they put in game footage and stuff in post so it's not just them sitting there talking

Richard talks about how Saturn magazine couldn't get demo discs from Sega, while the PS mag got one every month and basically sold the magazine alone and probably helped the PS1 too.

They do a lot of Dreamcast talking near the end because all Sega discussion leads to Dreamcast amirite.

when i "rebuilt" my current one (saving case, HDs, DVD drive, etc.) i was shocked at even the advances in "plug in one thing and it works" just since 2008 when my last real build from scratch was

though i did get a laugh looking at my old mobo and how it was just when they went to color coding all the ports on the back just in time for everything to just switch over to usb

my favorite thing about the pentium 2 days were those bigass carts you plugged in for the CPU :lawd

So, after a long back and forth with support where they had to fix something with my account so that I could log in using their rickety client, I finally found that Bulletstorm is inaccessible to me now, which was not unexpected. Should have backed up those files, I guess. :doge

They did however give me store credit for it. Didn't even ask for it. :leon

Fortuitously, they have an easter sale going on, so I bought Thief Gold, Thief II and Deus Ex with my newly acquired wealth. I don't know where my disc for Thief is (not that I could use it, anyway, since I don't currently have a disc drive hooked up), I don't think I ever owned Thief II legitimately (ahem...) and Deus Ex GOTY was a Direct2Drive game that I also lost access to and didn't keep back-ups of. </livejournal>
