:shh so um, somebody dumped the original run of DIE HARD GameFan (not the 2010 reboot) on archive.org: https://archive.org/details/@trinity_mileena

though as noted in the descriptions, Dave Halverson is vigilant in hunting for these and getting them taken down (though they seem to have been up for almost three months)

SO GET YOUR HYPE ON FOR BACKGROUND SCROLLS AND SECRET NEWS REVEALS FROM ONLY THE BEST TRUE SOURCES  :shh

Thanks for this link - browsing the archive now... love all the obscure old import stuff they would cover, back then their import coverage was in a league of its own - I mean where else in the early 90's could you read a review of Splatterhouse for the FM-Towns Marty? Their reviews were always so crazy and some really bad games got hyped up to the stratosphere, but I'm thankful they introduced me to Gunstar Heroes, Landstalker, and Ranger X at the very least :P

i caught onto their game back in the day, they'd spend like six months hyping a game, showing it from Japan, with like two sentences about how amazing it'll be, showing a bunch of screenshots for a few more months with how hott it is and saying the review is coming and then not even review the game and that was the obvious tell  :nope

like the issues i've been paging through were going nuts over NEW KATSUMI NINJA SCREENSHOTS and how epic it's going to be LOOK AT DAT BLOOD and now they're all like Jaguar? what's that? check out this Sega Saturn thing bro

my favorite part was the revelation years later that Dave was two or more of the reviewers sometimes, now i'm trying to spot it

also can't believe they gave C2: Judgement Clay 95 / 95 / 97 ... that's insane even for GameFan scores, i mean it's not like it's a Dave Perry game or anything, plus i mean that's like 10-20 points higher than Sonic CD with the US Soundtrack and only 3-5 points less than Sonic CD with the Japanese Soundtrack

though i might not have played Gunstar Heroes and certain others for like years or decades later so i can't be too snarky and smug about it

had i only read EDGE on the other hand...they gave it a 6/10 and complained about it's slowdown and sprite breakup :lol

for some reason i thought they were one of the vile Bubsy pushers, but they only gave it like 80-85% which is like a EGM 7

they did give him the best new character of the year award though :donot

Man, at least you guys had something worthwhile in your bought-and-paid-for ad booklets. German mags were the pits. Didn't keep me from enjoying the everloving fuck outta them, but their low sales and German/PAL market focus meant that we got the worst of the worst of marketing drek when it came to the big console games. Most of the mags died pretty quickly after the internet became more than just that BBS you dialed into every other week at night when your parents were distracted by watching the news. Kinda saddening, but then again, as soon as you had one single guy with "internet connections"in your extended social circle you had more knowledge than these mags could ever offer.

Still, full colour screenshots, maps and game tips, letters from readers - and that rare preview/import corner.  :o Plus the occasional buy/sell/trade section! So good!   8)

I hate this. One more of my undoubtedly countless old man yelling at cloud moments. Still, fuck that noise. Fuck it with a rosted spork right up the peehole.  :maf

...I don't even know why I'm THAT mad, but fuck it, I'm mad, and I'm not gonna take it any more. Get off my lawn and play PC games on your PCs in the basement like proper pimple-faced nerds, you green behind the ears pretend-to-be-cool chucklefucks! *rages incoherently*

Does the usb dongle work well?

Can it work portable? Though actually, I guess I only really care about wireless when docked because that’s a long ass cord.

So E3 only being a month away, I'm falling into the hype already.  Why?  Because this one's bound to be better than last year's.  Here's my hope's/predictions....

- Cyberpunk 2077  - gameplay reveal....  Videogames win.
- FromSoftware's teaser revealed - New Tenchu?  BUH-LEE DAT
- And if actually isn't Tenchu, then Sony should certainly show some gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima.  Big emphasis on stealth gameplay, ...that will work too.  Much pump there.
- Hideki Kamiya, and whatever he's been doing for the last.. however long, has to be revealed as well..  DMC5?  Dragon's Dogma 2?  Either one, I'll be ok with.  (though I'd prefer the latter)
- Def Stranding - actual gameplay
- FFVII Remake - actual gameplay

These alone would practically be right up there to the legendary E3 of 2015.

I hope Cyberpunk and FROM's games are cool and DMCV exists. Everything else would be a bonus. I'd like to see that Platinum Games RPG confirmed for localisation, but it's not like anyone wants to spend time on that at E3. Gotta get out all the cringey footage of cinematic shooters that take themselves way too seriously. But maybe they'll show that new Metal Gear-looking game from Square, I thought it was supposed to be a 2018 title. I also wouldn't mind if Sega's next Sonic Kart game is shown and looks alright.

I also fear that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will follow WiLD into Michel Ancels vaporware-land without even getting a comment at Ubisoft's show.

I feel like the loot box trend might finally be dying down. But maybe just because the biggest greediest games all drop in The winter.

If what he's said there is accurate, it's a pretty crappy way for Obsidian to treat him considering he was basically the face of Obsidian going back to the beginning, and his storied career at Black Isle before that. On the other hand, he's got a history of helming projects that a. end up cancelled, b. get released half finished, and c. causing frustration for his fellow developers with ideas that are difficult if not impossible to implement, which is why he spent the past 8 years relegated mostly to just being a freelance writer [for Obsidian and others], so I'm not entirely willing to buy his side of this 100% without reservations.

I mean the first post in that 4chan thread doesn't lie. :yeshrug (Though I think New Vegas is the only game worth noting from them, and that's partly due to them having some of the old Black Isle/Fallout team on there)

But if you follow that thread, there's further images about him not giving a damn about airing this since he has a "legal fund" or whatever in case of retaliation. He says every other Founder has the same threat if they do something that seems like "gee, you don't want to be here anymore." Which is pretty bullshit.

Also back to E3 I'm really hoping that we get some Trails announcements. XSeed's been pretty quiet with the series, even after Cold Steel 1 and 2 just got PS4 releases and 3 came out in Japan last year. Plus there's the Crossbell series, literally my most wanted games in English right now.

And that Millionaire was very tempting. A lot of people hate it but it's fun to me.

I should be in TNT Amusements Pinfest youtube video a lot next week that covers the event. I'll link it later.

The only interesting thing on there would be Rage 2 but that's only because I thought the first game had a lot of potential that wasn't realized IMO.

I doubt that is real though. The others were either heavily rumored for a while or expected.

I THINK YOU MEAN DRAGON QUEST 2
Unless that's Builders 2? I mean DQ2 on PS4 would be pretty weird!

Also JC4 would be surprising after the JC3 hoopla. If JC4 has the original team on it again could be the real sequel to JC2.

Thanks to you all, we did it! The team has deemed the first flight a resounding success. Not only did we hit our key goals for time-to-match and matchmaking success, we also feel pretty good about the results of the other misc. goals noted above.

Let’s break it down:

More than 14,000 total matchmaking attempts over the course of the three official playtest sessions
Matchmaking success rates significantly exceeded Flight 1 goals
Time-to-match results were significantly faster than our Flight 1 goals. The vast majority of players were into matches in less than 38s. (that’s pretty quick!)

From a purely technical level, metrics and the story the data told exceed expectations. We’re still waiting on a final apples-to-apples comparison between some of this flight data and the current retail MCC equivalent (it’s complex to align the various telemetry pieces) but it’s clear that the matchmaking and networking updates have already offered some big improvements. Our data folks also need to take into account things like population size and geographic locale, among other factors.
