Really not a fan of the radio silence on Dying Light 2 in general and Halo Infinite's anything that isn't cosmetic MTX and promos.

I'd say definitely a sign of trouble at 343i, but what gives Techland?

Far Cry 6 delayed (not a piece of proper gameplay footage from Ubi lol) and also R6 Quarantine to whenever next year. With the fiasco facing Bloodlines 2, I understand the next-gen plus pandemic impacts, but these unspecified launches with little to show/talk about in the meantime don't give me much confidence.

There there, some Halo news.

5900X was sold out within seconds and I didn't get mine. The 5800X may get through but if I don't get a shipping notice tonight, I'll cancel that one until the 5900X comes back in stock.

These launches are such bullshit, you need to refresh 2 websites at the exact time to get one of the 30 items stock and then it crashes on checkout.  :doge

I wanted to built a new rig over the weekend as I was in between work projects.

I don't understand the point of reviewing consoles. I looked at both the new system reviews and it's like "it's a system! It plays games! There will be games for 5-6 years! It works and doesn't burn your house down!"

They read more like previews to me, which is fine. I just think it's weird they're labeled as reviews with scores and stuff. I feel like you can't "review" a game hardware until the end of its lifespan since the quality of a system is the quality of the games it has.

Anyhow, just old man ranting stuff.

Yeah I saw those threads on reee and was just thing thinking wth is a console review? Was that a thing in the past? I mean the most interesting thing would be a check how reliable hardware is, but that's not even possible in that short time frame and with so few poeple with access.

I guess things like loudness and load time are nice to know but eh. Seems like both systems are reasonably well engineered.

from what I'm seeing Sony has this launch in the bag overall

PS5 wins on:
- better BC performance of last gen games (this surprised me but PS5 holds a steady 60fps in last gen games more often than XSX does)
- more interesting new controller features (haptic feedback is seen as impressive in games where it is implemented well)
- better games (Miles Morales is a nice showpiece and the DF guys are saying that Demons Souls is the most impressive game released this year)
- although both systems are quiet, PS5 makes less noise than XSX
- Ray tracing available day 1 in RT enabled games, while on XSX it will be 'added later' for some titles like DMC5:SE

XSX wins on:
- quick resume (although the use of this is limited considering the load times are already fast)
- bigger BC library (runs all Xbox gens)
- In specific games better performance and higher resolutions but no big differences so far
- GamePass

It's early days, but Xbox faces an uphill battle again

How is that surprising? Run the xbox games at the PS4 Pro patch levels and they'd run at 60 too. The Hitman one is literally 1440p against a full 4K. That's twice the pixel count.

I wish they would run the PS5 at the full 4K so we could actually see the difference.

Origins was cool but the formula wasn't good enough to do 3 times.

Still might play this before Odyssey though because at least the setting of medieval England game map interests me.

But I really hope next AC (aka first true next-gen AC) is a soft reboot again.

Also I was checking Amazon and AC Valhalla is $10 off, so $49.99 launch day for PS5/XSX. That's pretty good all things considered (yeah it'll be $30 in less than a year on sale).

Oh and PC Benchmark came out and it's better optimized than Watchdogs Legion but is still pretty shitty and can't match PS5/XSX performance with a 3080. Ubisoft PC ports -_-

Will just get this on PS5 this time around.

Just can't save state multiple games at a time like XSX.

Do whatever you want but it looks pretty mediocre and filled with tasks that are combat combat go here stealth combat combat

I mean I played Origins and Odyssey up to a point, where I had my fill. I certainly wouldnt buy it for full price. 20 bucks for the ultimate edition, sure.

is the hype for the new xbox completely limp for regular people? I don't see much mention of it on mainstream facebook gaming groups? All the hardcore gamers are getting the PS5 or so it seems.

It's weird how the PS5 seems to have taken over, except for here, I guess.

I think not having any new 1st party launch games is the issue for launch. Average consumer is more interested in new games than free games (game pass)/BC.

They really should've launched with Halo Infinite, a new Forza and some Rare platformer or something. It seems like they'll get all that next year, so I think Xbox will do fine and be very competitive with PS5. But launch is weird.

From what I'm reading and seeing in reviews, PS5 feels most like a new console generation. Exciting exclusives like Spider-Man and Demons Souls, new controller and features to play around with.
The modern design has also grown on people. Sony delivered that premium next-gen console experience but they don't offer a lot of options.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X is best described as a PC upgrade. It does everything your previous Xbox did and runs the same games, but better and much faster. Like swapping out your PC graphics card.
You get that high-end 120hz / 120fps PC experience for the fraction of the cost of a $2000 gaming PC. But a more 'functional' and understated IKEA like design.
If you're a multi-platform gamer and you don't want to miss out on Xbox exclusives than the Xbox Series S with GamePass is all you need. Basically the GamePass player.
Which makes sense to pair with a PS5 or Switch as your second console.

The Verge made the observation that with PC graphics cards hard being so hard to find (RTX3000-series and 6800 likely as well) some PC gamers might consider the Xbox Series X instead.
It is the closest Microsoft got the Xbox to a PC since the original launched in 2001.

I've read some reviews, seems like the high scores are mostly next-gen bonus points.
It runs poorly and is quite buggy on current gen and doesn't seem as good as Odyssey overall.

Poorly optimized on PC too.

Yeah, normally you can power through bad PC ports since PC tech is so much beyond consoles, but now you've got the generation change and so you'll need PC cards 2-3 years out to just power through bad PC ports. Though even then you still get stuff like Horizon.

I don't have much/any faith in Ubisoft prioritizing good PC ports. Will just get console versions for the first year or two and then PC versions later on.

That's what I want to see. How does the PS5 actually perform against the Series X.

idk, an apples to apples comparison is pretty tough. my bet would be all things considered perf is going to be fairly equivalent between the two consoles in multi plat titles.

the architectures are pretty convergent but differ enough that they both have pros and cons that will put them up or down depending on implementation. i dont think the raw flop increase of the x is going to have any meaningful impact on cross plat titles. that said, with the raw gpu scale of the series x over the ps5 you'd probably expect a difference of around 4-6 frames on average, but there are so many variables that raw gpu time available is not the key determining factor.
