From what I understand it works basically like this:

- Special Edition (the one everyone has + gamepass) gets free next-gen upgrade

- Anniversary Content requires separate purchase, wont be part of GamePass

- Anniversary Edition probably its own bundled purchase for those interested

Pretty damn surprised at Psychonauts 2 reviews. Who would have ever thought Double Fine would make a not just good, but a great game that garners 9s from reputable sites. Their games in the gameplay department have been so mediocre for so long I never would have expected it, but I guess having an actual budget and an IP they are passionate about seems to have worked.

I loved the original Psychonauts and the VR game was probably the best double fine game since then even if it was maybe a 7-8/10 quality for a 3 hour VR experience, so I'm stoked to play this one.

Even the original Psychonauts is good, but it's a cult classic, it's not a god-tier quality game imo. The platforming is pretty jank and just passable. Also everything they've done since cutting down budgets and doing lots of small XBLA type short low budget games for 10-15 years has been pretty messy.

The shine's been off Double Fine for a long time, dude. Their best stuff recently has been remasters of classic Lucasarts adventure games. Hopefully this represents a turn around for them, but even if it isn't at least Psychonauts got its sequel finally.

Beyond good and evil is at 83 mc. Psychonauts 2 is at 89 (on pc, 87 on console for whatever reason).

The platforming was never Mario that's for sure, but I never quite agreed with it being janky. Always enjoyed the platforming pf the original. But what you really played it for was the wacky levels and characters. I absolutely loved it.

Nah, not really. There's some pretty good jokes but i'd recommend jumping straight into 2. The graphics and gameplay of Psy 1 don't hold up as well as say, Portal 1.

Volition did something that hardly any dev has done that uses a character creator.... Released a stand alone character creator ahead of time to upload to the full game.

Still would like to see more... Can't say I'm sold. That main protag was a hard watch. Whole Gen Z woke vibe was not ticking any boxes. Hope you can change the voice too.. Doesn't look nowhere as outlandish, but I guess they're starting from the bottom again... Will keep an eye out, but definitely not pre-ordering yet.
