PPSSPP is pretty good if you do go that route, better emulator than PCSX2 imo

They are literally destroying everything. Now Resident Evil 4 dialogue has been censored by the facebook.  :doge

Quote
In the first scene above, Leon's original reply to Hannigan saying she was worried is: "Don't you mean lonely? Anyway, I started to feel dizzy, and then I guess I must have lost consciousness." The first five words are lost to static in the VR version. In an earlier conversation, Leon's comment that he'd expected Hannigan to be older is also gone.

In the second scene, Luis' original quote is: "I see that the President's equipped his daughter with ballistics too." Ashley then replies: "How rude. And I don't believe there's any relevance with my figure and my standing. Who are you?" All but the last three words here have been trimmed.

Quote
Word that Resident Evil 4's content had been edited for its Oculus VR release first surfaced earlier this month on The Happy Warrior, which complained that Capcom had "allowed Facebook to deface and modify" its classic "to please the gaming media and the social justice crowd". It also claimed the game's final scenes had also been edited, including the line where Ashley asks Leon back to her place, and the entire final conversation with Hannigan where Leon flirts with her further, and comments on her lack of glasses. We haven't yet reached this ourselves so aren't currently able to verify these.

The campy 80/90's movie dialogue is part of the character of the game and even referenced by Osmund Saddler, who says that the American hero prevailing is something that only happens in Hollywood movies.

Leon chillin on these 'too cool for school' video calls after escaping life or death situations makes the game that much more enjoyable. Also, it's Hunnigan you barbarians.

Hopefully Leon will remind us all in the credits, to go vote in 2024, and Ashley's father is revealed to be Biden.

These indie pixel action/rogue/metroidvania games are all starting to look the same to me. I have like three dozen left untouched in my backlog so it's hard to get interested in new ones.

I have mixed feeling.
I don't mind the new models, and i'm happy about the improved controls, but the lighting doesn't look like it fits the rest of the graphics well, in many shots.

Still, i'll probably get it for cheap at some point and re-play GTA3 for the hundredth time.
Still no word on the butchered soundtrack?

Gameplay improvements will make or break GTA. The controls were shit even back in the day. I always thought it should have graphics that look like the artwork :idont Though I guess it could be a little less cartooney in a Fortnite sense.

Looks great, the PS2 games looked like shit visually back in the day. It was about world size, the sandbox, different mini games and mechanics, mission variety, that was what made those games special, not the visuals.

Photo realistic styled games during that gen would be stuff like MGS2, Splinter Cell, SWAT 4, Rainbow Six 3, sports games, Battlefield 2. The PS2 GTAs were blurry cartoons compared to games at that time.

remembering PS2 fanboys round here claiming they can play the best graphics by citing GTA with those blocky N64 hands and foggy locals :goldberg The cartoony look is pretty good now, though better in some places than others, judging by the trailer. The scenes from 3 look sick, SA the worst.

Yeah when they keep the graphics cartoony, it works out good, when they pair them with more realistic effects (like car reflections) it goes into the Mario-on-UE4 territory, that's why i mentioned being mixed about it.
In general it's an improvement, though.

I think mormapope is remembering all the other games through rose-tinted glasses. GTA III was visually a perfectly serviceable PS2 entry for its time. There will be examples of games which present better that are doing less with the hardware.

MGS2 looks comparable, for all its painfully micromanaged, tiny set-pieces. Twisted Metal looks less good than GTA III despite its focus on vehicles and tiny arenas. THPS3 is, again, of a strikingly similar visual fidelity level. The only games on PS2 that exceed the era's expectations are Gran Tursimo and SSX.

I distinctly remember my first thought when turning on GTAIII (once you're on that broken bridge, in the orange jump suit) being: "What the fuck did i buy? This looks like shit!", in particular the character models.
Soon after that i fell in love with the game and the open world obviously, but the first impression wasn't great.
I mean in 2001 you already had games like Silent Hill 2, MGS2 or Shenmue.
Obviously the shit graphics were off-set by what the game was doing in scale, but that wasn't immediately obvious yet.

This supposedly has its controls based on GTA V.

it goes into the Mario-on-UE4 territory

What game has the best auto-battle?

SMT Nocturne. So quick. It sounds like a slap fight. Sublime.

Now that I had a kid I find myself playing Switch games at weird hours (now). I was given a suggestion on Dungeon Encounters and I really like it as a modern JRPG. It gives the player a lot of feedback and choices they want to make. Everything is defined. It plays like a game I'd hear about on The Cruncheons.

Need to figure out how to auto-battle.

I think I saw Aeana from GAF/RE post about that game and she really liked it. Dunno if it's really for me, it looks way too much like Unlimited SaGa and I tend not to like super abstracted visuals like that, nor roguelikes (is this one?). It looks like some lazy mobile port or something in terms of execution.

I don't think theyll ever use BP for a simple remaster again, their name Is tied to the idea of super graphics now, and It would set up the wrong expectations for something like this.

Sorry for the broken link. Not sure where it went wrong there.
But yeah... I really hope they just patch/upgrade the PS4 version than a full-on remake.  I want to be able to use my current save.. I've held off finishing in hopes for this.

Star Ocean always has the worst fucking character designs. Tri-ace needs to fire their character designer but it's too late.

That said, I feel like more jrpgs need to go full Xenoblade with the environment and being able to jump off cliffs and stuff. Like Tales of Arise looks more expansive but it's still invisible walls and not really any different from PS2/PS3 j-rpgs in fields. This actually looks like it'll be nice to run around in and explore.

This is the worst trailer I have ever seen.

There is a good amount of detail in the worlds, but the absolute inexplicable mishmash settings (post apocalyptic streets, a mall, a sauna, a populated cafeteria), zero narrative world building, lack of anything resembling interesting gameplay, and the overall genericness have already robbed me of any interest in this game. The idea with the kicker at the end doing a count-back also infer that they think they are relying on public interest that is guaranteed to be nonexistent by this trailer.

The music drove me nuts, but if you watch it mute it's not that bad.
It's clearly one of those "you can do anything!" bullshit survival games that never come out of Early Access, but the production values seem pretty impressive (reminds me of The Division).
I think the setting chose for the trailer sort of hit those fantasy landmarks of post-apoc. porn, of cabin in the woods + robbing stores in an empty mall.

So far it’s much less obtuse than Saga games. Presentation is also clean and kind of charming despite seeming barebones.

There are couple of QOL things I’d do to improve it (map, warp items), but it’s addicting. A lot of nice twists on the ATB formula so far. It’s a roguelike  dressed up as a more conventional dungeon crawler. Definitely not run-based but you can lose progress if you fuck around and find out. Just feels like an ‘old school’ hard game without continues more than a roguelike where death is a part of improvement.
