Yeah, between game pass, ps+, humble bundles and just steam in general, so many of my favorite games in the last 5-10 years I don't have physical copies of...and that's fine.

I'd rather be digital for current stuff just because I find it more convenient to not have to switch discs/carts. Especially because I'm pretty ADHD and I'll play like 20 mins of one game and then switch to another and play 20 mins.

Team Sell here.  Unless you're passing down a collection to family, sell what you can, while you can. Everything physical can literally be bought again if it really came down to it... Which it won't.  Free thy self.

I can now easily decide to not play a game because the thought of getting up to swap a cart sounds like too much work... It's mostly the reason I haven't touch Xenoblade DE yet.  If the kids swap out the TOTK cart when it's out, I'm screwed.   :stahp

but like the time it would take me to actually go through everything and list it on ebay and sell it individually and pack it and stuff...I don't have time for it and the profit isn't going to be worth it.

This is the thing I discovered when selling old gaming mags and games. Unless I'm gonna make at least $1000 for the day, it's just not worth my time to waste listing a bunch of shit, having to go to the post office and all the rest.

17 year old me would laugh, but making a couple hundred dollars on a weekend is just not worth it now.

I'm thinking about just taking some common stuff to CEX or whatever it's called that buys this shit in bulk, they even list what you get and what they sell it for on their website.  Sure I'll get pennies on the dollar but I don't really care about my return on Need for Speed Nitro for the Wii and other review games I got for free. I can trade it in for stuff I actually do want for a bit more value and they aren't picky about what games they buy like certain game stores. What also works is selling bundles, just include a rare or interesting game in the bundle or pack an entire franchise together.

Now is a good time to sell especially most Nintendo stuff is in demand and there's a lot of buzz surrounding game collecting in general, although prices for generic Wii stuff, Xbox and SEGA things have cratered (at least in Europe).

Some rare and expensive items aren't hard to sell, most folks looking for this stuff have alerts and bots these days so as soon as you put something up like a boxed Metroid game on Ebay you'll have a buyer. You just need to ask $10 less than the average seller.
I'm trying to find a copy of Alpha Sapphire myself but every listing is pretty much instantly sold at the asking price.

I still buy a lot of physical stuff though, some physical editions like the Fire Emblem Engage and Resident Evil 4 Remake steelbooks are just beautiful. I do need to get rid of common stuff I'll never play again.

Watched a youtube video on that old western game GUN. Looking back, I have more fond memories of playing that game than I do either Red Dead Redemption game. Horse drifting, kicking it in the ribs to get it to die at the exact moment you enter combat. Scalping some indians. The scalping didn't even do anything, I think they cut the mechanic that was supposed to be tied to it. Amazing stuff.

We really need more gameplay first stuff. Hoping Tears of the Kingdom delivers on that front.

He's completely right about ASUS being full of it in terms of the performance claims, but I also kind of wonder if he's a little ticked that they didn't send him one to test out like they did to Linus and Dave2D.  :doge

I only see it as a positive because it's another handheld that could potentially cost less than the competing ones and could potentially be sold in stores like Best Buy. Also better customer support/warranty. Just like the Steam Deck!

Watched a couple of his videos, and this is a compliment, I understand why they wouldn’t hand him a prototype. Best not to get in the weeds about specs and tdp, from asus’s perspective.

He likely wouldn't be allowed to talk about any of that on a video- Linus had an ASUS rep standing nearby while he was making the video and mentioned that they wouldn't let him talk about a lot of things.

It's pretty pointless to buy discs these days unless you want to be able to resell them or grab them on sale.  Plus, so many titles get updates/patches anyway.  The only console where you'll find more "complete" physical releases is the Switch, and even then it's not all titles.  Switch is also where most of the collectors moved to and it seems like people don't really care about anything else when it comes to collecting on modern consoles.

A few years ago, I took a ton of PS4 games and just went to Gamestop and dumped them for cash.  I'm sure I would have gotten more if I sold them online, but this was a lot more convenient and none of them had any real value anyway- I kept those titles.

The constant rumors going around about MGS 1 or 3 Remakes; which do you all think would make more sense to do?

Seems most people feel 3 is the peak of the series, and being the first chronologically, it should be done first.

As much as I enjoyed it, I disagree with that direction.  It just wouldn't have the same impact on players as before, knowing who these people become; Ocelot, etc.  Plus, on a technical standpoint, I think waiting another gen (or 2) would benefit the graphical fidelity of what a jungle scenario would look than it would look with current gen.  MGS1 with it's indoor base settings, would be better/easier realized with current gen capabilities, if that makes sense.

It's hard to not thirst for these though, since Konami has done nothing with them in almost a decade now.

I'd prefer remakes in chronological order, but I would only play them if they were extremely well made. The original games are still fun. Minor improvements aren't enough to make me repurchase the series.

MGS1 is the heftier project to bring up to date. Twin Snakes back in 2003 was already peeking behind the curtains a little. The brief visit MGS4, too. Shadow Moses is a compact location and they smartly reused areas and all in the original.

That's a good point. I would much rather play a new game that's similar to MGS1/2/3 that tells a new story and updates some of the mechanics.

I'd be down with MG1 and 2.. However, would it be NES MG? Or MSX MG?  :thinking. The former I'd assume since you actually fight MG.

But a new game? Nah.. Leave it as the Snake saga only.

My Son and I were talking about SOR and Final Fight yesterday.  I mentioned to him that it was leaked that a supposed Final Fight Remake was in the works and expected to release Q2 2024.

How do you all think CAP will take this approach?  Are they going to attempt hand drawn animation, but keep pixelized older asset bonuses like SOR4?
Or will they go all out and make it realistic looking using REngine? (Somewhat akin to The TakeOver) Making it ultra gritty in a way?
Or do you think they're going to full-on make it into a 3D brawler a la Yakuza?

I think most vets would riot if they took the 3D route, but I would trust their judgement with their current track record.  (Or a mix of both?)

That being said, there's the supposed Power Stone reboot as well, which if it were to come along side FF, it would take the 3D stance while FF kept to it's 2D roots.  Either or, I'll take more FF and PS all day, any day.

Is there any point to keeping X360s that RROD?

I packed up all my old consoles/handhelds and jfc packing two XBOXs is heavy enough, but three X360s is a lot too. My X360s are:

X360 USA (dead RROD)
X360 JP (dead RROD)
X360 Slim USA (alive)

I feel like I should trash the X360 USA, and only reason I'd keep the X360 JP would be to repair it? to play the like...10 JP-Only X360 games (7 of 10 which are just Cave shmups which are now mostly on other platforms).

Speaking of dead systems I also have a launch PS3 Phat JP that is dead and maybe? could be repaired? Only useful point of it is that it has hardware PS2 BC for JP PS2 games.

My packed list of retro consoles I found and boxed were:

Nintendo Stuff:
N64 USA
N64 JP
GC USA w/switch for region select
JP USA (no idea why I have this)
Wii
Wii U USA
Wii U JP
Switch
Switch OLED
GB Advanced
GB Advanced SP x 2 (again, no idea why I have two of these)
An empty box for a GBA Micro, no idea where the hardware went
DS Phat JP
DS Slim USA
3DS USA
3DS JP
3DS XL USA
3DS XL JP

Sega:
Saturn w/region switch
Dreamcast (I assume this has a region switch mod since I have mostly JP DC games and I only have one DC)

SNK:
Neo Geo Pocket Color

Sony:
PS1 (definitely was modded back in the day)
PS2 phat JP
PS2 phat USA
PS2 Slim USA
PS3 Phat JP - Dead
PS3 Slim USA
PS4 Slim USA - Gave PS4 phat away when I got the slim
PS5 USA
PSP USA
PSP JP
PS Vita JP

Microsoft:
XBOX USA
XBOX JP
X360 USA Dead
X360 JP Dead
X360 slim USA
X360 HD-DVD add-on drive

Looks like SNES/NES/Genesis/Gameboy/Atari 2600/Atari 7800/Intellivision were all given away when I was a kid to my cousins. Never owned a 3D0 or Game Gear though I played both at friends.

Now I just need to find all the power/video cables and all the controllers. I found most of the power/video cables except I didn't find the Saturn/DC/GC ones.

- N64 can be modded to be play JP games (literally just remove a couple pieces of plastic near the cartridge slot, easy to do), you can dump the rest
- Wii/WiiU is region free when softmodded (easy to do), dump any spares
- sell the spare GBA/SPs, up to you if you care to bother to use it with analogue pocket out there now
- 3DS is region free when softmodded (easy to do), you can dump any extras especially now that eshop is dead.
- DS is region free regardless, no way you're ever gonna use a fat DS
- dump the normie switch
- trash any dead 360s, they dont really have much value, not much interest in hacking them that i've seen since its not entirely easy to do
- the PS2s can be useful, not really an easy mod for them though. leave this up to you
- PS3 is region free so you could dump the JP unit
- PSP is also region free so you could dump the JP unit
- xbox can be region free if you decide to mod it (softmod etc), even a JP model can be useful to anyone who wants to mod it
- dump the hd-dvd drive, thats just wasting space

when i say "trash" i say just dump them off at a gaming store. see if they'll accept them, if not just say they are going to the trash anyway and leave them there and run away.

you can gain so much space dumping those extra consoles. probably make some money too considering 3DS hardware are HOT right now

It's fun, some cool documentary like scenes in between the campaign missions too for some historic background.
I found it lacking in lore and narrative in the missions though. In Age of Empires 2 the campaign maps had multiple objectives, heroes and stories in the new game it's pretty much 1 objective in each map with a few side objectives.

In terms of balance it's also different. This time siege weapons do have a big advantage as buildings go down fast (walls too with the right weapons). It's pretty awesome to surprise a marching army with catapults or canons in the woods.
On the flip side you can put archers and garrisons on the walls and gates so it's not just towers for defense. The population cap is too strict though, it basically forces you to make a choice between an army focused on attack, defense or a bit of both.
You can't have lots of units for defense as well as offense.

In other news I got Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest brand new for just 27 euro on Amazon.
The cover is French though, but that doesn't really matter considering the game is multi-language anyway and it's better than paying up to 70 or 80 Euro for a used copy just for the English cover or up to 300 Euro for the limited release with all paths on a single cartrdige. From what I could find Conquest is the best out of the 3 Fates games or at least sounded the most appealing to me.

Found an amusing series of games that are just low budget takes of other games/genres but with a Cuphead-inspired aesthetic. A first-person Wolfenstein-like, a Getting Over It clone...

But this one in the series is just jumping to higher platformers by itself. Maybe Dean Takahashi should review it :doge

New Game Pass subscribers can no longer get their first month for a dollar, as Microsoft has stopped offering its introductory Game Pass promotion.

I thought this only concerned the premium version with cloud gaming, but apparently it's for all versions.

This means the deal cannot go ahead, unless MS completely pulls out of the UK including Office, Windows, Azure.

So this effectively means the deal is dead.

I don't know what they are thinking attacking the regulators like this

One of the objections made is that the regulators had seen no evidence that Call of Duty could run on Nintendo systems.
Nintendo not announcing Switch 2/Pro and apparently not sharing any future hardware plans might have fucked Microsoft over.  :lol
