Avatar will be remembered in the future, but only as a technological achievement/stepping stone. One of my favorite points from that 70min Star Wars review was that the new trilogy didn't have a single memorable character anyone could easily explain to someone who hasn't seen the films. Months after release the majority of Avatar viewers can't name one character from the film, what type of personality they had, etc. Even if someone can't name the marines for Aliens, they can at least describe some key facts about them, years after seeing the movie.

Actual Best Picture 2009 was A Serious Man but it was never gonna win. I was (honestly) just happy to see it get a nomination, considering how bizarrely overlooked it was in theaters. My favorite "might actually win" was Inglourious Basterds, but Hurt Locker is nothing to be ashamed of.

Guess it's time to update the only-remembered-as-the-answer-to-a-Trivial-Pursuit-question Avatar timeline!
