This is like the only time I'm completely unfamiliar with the references around a video game. Wtf is the meaning behind pringles and curleh moustaches?

Funny video that turned into a bunch of worn out memes.

I hope they put Dr. Octopus in, I think he would be a fun character to play as with all his robot arms.

I'm just glad it's done by the TvC team.  Couldn't get into MvC2.

Yes, and do you remember how fucked up the balance was?  And how they just re-used like every old-ass sprite they had?  It was like an official MUGEN hack from Capcom.   :lol

30 characters for a brand-new fighter is really good.  I will only be disappointed if the Capcom side just happens to be every character from TvC with a few additions.

Disappointing was the original arcade SF4 roster.  The 12 original SF2 characters plus four new faces?  After all that time?   ::)  OH WAIT AKUMA IS NOW HERE!!!   ::) ::)  The home version's additions really helped, even though it was almost all characters we'd seen before.

MvC2 was in a prime position to have 56 characters --only a few of those were totally new to the series in that iteration.  It almost wouldn't make sense if it DIDN'T have so many.  And don't forget how much of the cast is actually anywhere near halfway decent in that game.  There's only a small handful on the entire Capcom side that are worth half a shit.

Here, 30 characters (presumably) from scratch is pretty fucking lofty, especially if BALANCE is a goal they're going to take seriously.

TvC got an upgrade that helped address its balancing.  If this is the same people who worked on that series, then this is the "third entry" and they'll have more experience on their side.

...I hope.

MvC2 had the advantage of using sprite rips from other Capcom games.

They are mostly doing these from scratch. plus in the interview they are at 30 at this stage, so more could be added.

Will be interesting if they can get more

I want more characters that haven't been in these crossover games before.  Phoenix Wright, Dante, Chris Redfield, Arthur, June, etc. etc.  They've got shitloads of Marvel characters that could be used too besides the usual bunch.

Also take advantage of the game using 3D models.  Multiple outfits/character swaps would be cool.  Even if they play the same, have Ryu's alt be Ken.  Have Wolverine's alt be X-23.  Have the Hulk's at be the Red Hulk.  Etc.

Actually the interview said they are hoping to get to 30+ by spring 2011 depending on time.  Sounds like it'll be tough for them to even get 30 in but that's their goal.

The only thing that makes me a little sad is if this isn't until spring 2011, it'll probably be spring 2013 before we get MvC4 with a 50+ character cast like MvC2.

Summary of the details so far, via eventhubs:

Here's a run down of what to expect from the new title.

• The game is set for a spring 2011 release date on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

• Right now the development team is looking at having about 30 characters — or so — in the roster.

• Seth Killian said that fans can expect "a healthy dose of new blood" when it comes to fighter selection.

• It's a 3-on-3 tag team fighting game, players build their own squads and uses Assists as well. Very similar to MvC2.

• The title uses an advanced version of Capcom's MT Framework, which powered Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2.

• MvC3 has aerial combos, hyper combos and other original gameplay systems.

• The game is officially titled Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

• The goal is to get 100 pieces of music in the game, that includes old favorites, new tracks and remixes. The 'Take You For A Ride' song won't be returning, at least, it's not planned right now. THANK BABY JESUS

• There are no plans for an arcade, PC or Wii version.

• The team behind this wants this game to have a strong storyline.

• Development started on MvC3 in the summer of 2008.

The art you see below are actually in-game character models.  :o

If they REALLY are, then holy shit.

Here we go, sort of: http://kotaku.com/5520736/a-first-look-at-marvel-vs-capcom-3s-in+game-graphics

Quote
Turns out that those six pieces of character art that Capcom provided to sites for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 show how the characters will look in the game when rendered on Capcom's in-house graphics engine MT Framework, the developer says.

While Capcom tells Kotaku that the characters are in-game models, these static images don't yet include shaders or the dynamic lighting and they are all, of course, works in progress.

No way.

Namco and SNK (pre-Playmore, with the exceptions being KOF '98 and 2002 UM) have the best fighting game soundtracks overall.  All of the Tekkens and Soul games have great music.  Just about all of SNK's arranged music in particular is awesome.  I think Capcom games can be kinda weak, but SF2 music is classic, Alpha 1 had some good songs, Alpha 3 is great, all three SF3 games' soundtracks are the shit, and Marvel  Vs. Street Fighter and MvC1 had great music too.  MvC2 is the one with atrocious music that is so bad it's good/funny.

I loved Virtua Fighter 1's music, but after that, the series' soundtrack went to shit.  Sega fighting games have pretty weak music, IMO.

Out of the most recent fighting games, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom UAS has the best soundtrack, I think.  I really like the new music in SSF4 and that may top it in the end.

All 3D fighter OSTs have been 100% forgettable to me. Only Capcom and SNK can bring the goods as far as I'm concerned. My biggest disappointment in SF4 was the OST, aside from the remixes and :bow INDESTRUCTIBLE :bow2

Wow, nostalgia central.  Have not played this game in like 6 years.  But yeah, wow.  Still so good.  This seems like a good port too.  Classic sprites look about what I remembered the game looking like.  I think I will buy this and check out ONLINE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM :O
