Lest y'all think I'm always a complete pushover when it comes to weed, though, I was at my brother's best friend's wedding this past June.
It was an outdoor wedding, and it was in between the dinner and the dancing, and I walked with my parents back to our car to get the wedding present, a small statue. I'm carrying the statue back towards the barn (farm wedding) and I get a whiff of weed. I shake my head, put the statue down, and start marching quickly towards the smell.
Three guys are smoking up by a car. As I approach, I pull my badge from my pocket and go "really guys? Really? It's a fucking wedding" They stare at me blankly. The one guy is holding the joint and I go "toss it on the ground,
now". He does, and I press it out with my shoe. I just shake my head again, and muttter "Jesus..." as I walk back to my parents, pick up the statue, and carry it away. The whole exchange probably only took 20 seconds.
My dad was laughing his ass off the whole time, because he's never seen me in "work mode." That was his entertainment for the night.
Those guys were giving me death stares for the rest of the night.

Are you a cop 24/7? I understand you have to arrest people who do drugs when you're on the clock, but if you were on your off time and someone was smoking in front of you would you feel compelled to arrest them?
heh, see above. I do have obligations even when off duty. I can't just ignore an offence that's occurring right in front of me. When it comes to drugs, that usually just means whipping out the badge and telling them to put it out. Have only had to do that about 3 or 4 times off duty to date. No one has given me problems when I tell them to put it out yet.
At the 2010 Olympics, a group of coworkers were approached by a dude in Whistler who offered to sell them some coke on their way home from a bar. They tried to blow him off and let him walk away, but he didn't take the hint, and whipped out some samples. My buddy then goes "You fucking idiot, we're cops. You're under arrest." They sat the dude down and searched him, and then were able to flag down an on-duty officer a minute later.
