Dirty Santa and White Elephant are where everyone buys a gift and wraps it, then you put all the gifts go into a pile and draw numbers to see who picks first. Then the next person can pick another gift or steal a previous person's gift. At least that's the way we've always done it. I'm not sure what you call intentionally giving someone a crappy gift.

Everyone with a Kindle or who loves to read and buy paperbacks should pick this fucker up in the next couple weeks when it goes on sale. All proceeds go to the Nat'l Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Seriously.

This is THE thing to read in 2011, it's the modern Dangerous Visions, and includes a short story by Mr. Harlan Ellison himself that is not available digitally anywhere.

I've heard of this tradition, but I'm not sure if it has an official name. If I were suggesting the idea to my friends, I'd probably call it Evil Santa or something.

So I think I mentioned I am getting tingling in my fingertips, depending on my arm and/or head position. I went to the chiropractor, who tried a couple things before giving me any treatment, and more or less said "You need to see a real doctor."

I had my appointment yesterday, took a mess of x-rays (note: no new superpowers as of yet), and found out that the gap between two of my vertebrae is about half what the other vertebrae have. So I'm going in for an MRI in two weeks, and will have more detail about what the problem is. The doctor said I didn't have to worry about surgery, so I was relieved -- "This will fix itself then?!" And then he said, "Well, we don't know." Oh, OK, so it's AN INOPERABLE PROBLEM. That's not what I thought you meant at first.

I have a friend who works in construction, he listens to the radio all day and he spouts all this shit. Always talking about "them" when ever a study comes out as if there is a single body that conducts all studies "did you know they found out [ASININE CLAIM]?" or when there is some sort of poll he credits "them" with that too - as if something has to be inherently true for some radio-face to drool it at him through talk radio.

I used to try to get him to think more critically of things like that, but at this point I've given up.
