Houston is too spread out for a train system. It's made of a bunch of sub-communities and suburbs and shit, with their own laws. The people in my area (Humble), it's a town all on its own and they have decided they don't want any buses going through their neighborhoods. They passed a law that basically makes public transportation illegal. Their reason? "I don't want people going through my neighborhood."

I fucking hate suburbanites.

Ah, yes.  There's a smaller city here that also did the same thing, so the whole county has no public transportation because they don't want "those people" living there.

1.5 bedroom?  how does that work???

There's a smaller office room that they used to list as "1 bedroom with bonus room," but changed the description to "1.5 bedroom."  Depending on the listings, I've even seen it as "2 bedroom" which is total bullshit.

I could see the extra room being used for a baby or a little kid, but it's pretty small and the closet has no space for clothes.  It's like a little dorm room...I have my PC in there and use it as a place to hold a lot of my games n' crap.

So the only way to take advantage of the trains is if you live downtown and only downtown. There are buses but they don't cover much ground either.

Orlando is surprisingly better than most about this. I could get around Orlando just fine without a car.

Damn.  That's still not a bad price if it's in a nice area and well kept.  I was paying 900 bucks a month in a suburb of Houston for a one bedroom last year.  I could get a two bedroom for 600 closer to the city but it was in shitty neighborhoods.

The area is very nice and it's definitely a nice place to live.  Can't complain about that!

When I look out the window, I see tennis courts and a nice pool area...always kind of feels like we're in a hotel or a resort sometimes.

As a warning, the used car market is terrible.  I think it is the economy and people opting for used vehicles vs. new vehicles.  Either way, I had to pay several thousand more than I wanted to for a used car (my previous car got totaled from hail).  I wound up getting a used vehicle but for a few thousand more, I could have bought it new.

If I didn't have to use it to travel from work, I'd just hop on the bus.  In fact, on some days that I know I don't need to, I ride on the bus.  The only inconvenience is that I have to wait about six or seven minutes between connecting buses.  There's no shame in riding one.

Edit: I know Himuro said that riding the bus is impossible but for people in large cities for even relatively decent sized towns (50,000+), there's not much of an excuse.

why not just find a job in the galleria area and SW houston?  The business parks are growing so fast in that area.

Just the typical suburban-type shit, I guess.  Movie theater is right around the corner (walking distance) along with some restaurants, and my place is like three minutes' drive from the area mall, a Best Buy, Costco, and a Super Target.  There's several grocery stores and more restaurants nearby too.  We're also right near the two major highways.  It's a good location to live, I think, which is why we chose the place.  My folks' house is right down the road so I'm quite familiar with the area.  Shopping stuff is close by and the train and highway are accessible for everything else, but most of this stuff is close by car.  If we didn't have one, shopping would be too big of a pain in the ass.

It's also awesome to be able to walk a few minutes to the station and go to the airport without having to change trains or deal with traffic when you need to travel.

Oh, I've already accepted that a good chunk of my "friends" are awful, but it wasn't a problem until I began getting exposed to the way they use Facebook beside status updates.

If you hover over a post of a person, a small arrow should appear in the upper right corner of the post. When you click on it, you can decide if you want all updates, only important ones or completly remove them from your feed. You can also only deactivate the photos of the person.

Picked up our new car today.  Amazingly, they gave us $500 for the '90 Accord...we all thought we might have to pay them to scrap it for us!   

Ended up going for the Fit Sport over the base model.  It looks nicer and has a few extra nice features.  My nerdy ass just loves being able to hook up my iPhone and control music playback using buttons on the steering wheel.   



Everybody feels a lot better now that my wife has a car with WORKING safety features.

Actually, working on the weekends when you have actual deadlines meaning you aren't just doing fun work to clear your stuff up but are doing RACING AGAINST THE CLOCK grueling stuff all day long is what sucks.  If you go in on Sunday and just do some work for fun to get things out of the way it's good times. 

Today is the former.  Didn't help that I slept until fucking NOON   So by the time I had lunch and stuff it's like 1:30pm when I get in and I got like 6 hours of work to do before I can leave.  75% through now.  Tired from oversleeping.

Also had a date I had to push back because of this.  She's waiting on me to finish and let her know when I'm free to meet up, but I just want to go to sleep when I get out of here.   

Going to take a half day tomorrow after I get this motion filed in the morning half.  Go home and play videogames or something after lunch.

I had the best weekend ever.

I got my very comfortable couch on Saturday, played some Skyrim, played around with my new computer, played a lot of Sengoku Musou 3Z, slept in late, and spent this afternoon watching Mad Men and Gangland with my dachshund.

Probably the laziest weekend ever.  Which is great, considering how last year, I worked up to 100 hours a week on occasions.  Feels nice to actually unwind for a change.
