Not really. Junior graphic designer position is getting me 40k a year.

40k isn't that high but I certainly won't starve. But it's impossible to stay as a junior gd'er, especially as you gain more experience because it has the word junior in it for a reason.

A jump from 40k to 60k in five years is all quite within the bounds of reasonable expectations.

A jump from 40k to 300k, however.....

I started with Corel's Paintshop Pro in the summer of 9th grade - so this was circa 2000 - and started using Photoshop by fall of that year. So over 11 years? I started doing freelance in college, if you mean as a gig.

Modus has completely different skillset. Modus is great at certain things, but tends to play up his style too much. He doesn't branch out enough, I find, but when he does it seems he's certainly capable and competent. The issue with Modus is that he can't seem to get out of the early 2000's mindset of design, where everything was metallic and fused with 3ds Max effects.

Jarosh is a master photoshopper and great at animating. I haven't seen his work outside of photoshops, so I don't know.

But for the sake of being modest, they'd probably both kick my ass.

It reminds me of a fellow student in college who would only make designs around vampires/dark shit/blood/werewolves/evanescense/twilight/harry potter. If Modus managed to graduate with his current status quo, I'd be shocked, because professors really dislike one note stuff like that, especially - ESPECIALLY - if it's steeped around anime origins. ESPECIALLY. Nothing makes a prof lose his or hers shit than an anime obsessed person. This is especially true for animation/drawing classes where the person only concentrates on anime.

It makes me question why Modus has (probably) lapsed into his own thing, because people who are trained are taught not to do it. But I try not to judge!

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I owned my own business doing that, but I was salary and working for someone else, so we worked 80 hours for 4 months and still around 38-40 hours when we weren't even busy, so it would never work out fairly.

This is what I ended up doing, but compared to the $40,000 Himuro is making starting, I made $25,000 my first year as a level one help desk tech. But they also give me full health coverage for $3 a month and pay for my train fare, so I can't complain too much.
