Why is Netflix's PS3 interface so shitty?
Yesterday my mother bought a PS3 basically as a media center. She wanted to use it for Netflix after her last Blu ray player crapped out. Well there's more then her in the household who use the account. I use it occasionally and my two nieces use it a lot, for kids stuff. It's all under one account. So she's trying to find BBC televeison showsm but everything is filled with "well you watched icarly so you'll like these other kids shows" or "since you liked Monster High you'll like this". Those bascily make up all the categories as you scroll down. You'll maybe get "Tv dramas" or "new releases" or "what's popular on Facebook", but never here's all our tv shows in alphabetical order. There is no simple way to just see everything on streaming. You can't even search by tags like say "British television" even though things like Sherlock and Wallander have those tags. You have to actually know the titles.
It's really quite shitty. In it's effort to try and gear things to you it's extremely awful, because it gives you no "plain jane here's every thing category".
In the end I just made her a new user profile and rater stuff she likes so stuff she likes can appear, but I guess that mean random things Netflix dosen't think she'll like, but could easily like will be avoided.
My mother is 65, just using the XMB is a challenge for her, but jesus did yesterday make me think Netflix is quite shitty.
