Your clients sure like treating you breh. Are you an accountant/escort?
While the nature of the industry doesn't lend itself to compassionate
conservatism behavior, when I started out in it years ago I wasn't very employable and had to accept working for, well, anyone. Because I was at the "work or die" tier in my life, I managed to work with / for people who were infamous on the circuit for chewing through subcontractors like they were fresh dinner rolls (dying is a powerful motivational tool), which meant I was referred to
more and more people like that. A lot of these people were referred to me by my patron, and I couldn't really reject the work for fear of damaging that lucrative relationship.
Eventually I worked myself out of "work or die" tier, but the money was OK and I had an exit strategy with my ex, so I stayed in the game I had constructed for myself instead of extricating myself ahead of schedule. (When you know something awful will eventually end, it makes it bearable.) Now I have no exit strategy and live in a hell of my own making.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure the person I kind of work with who invited me did so at the behest of a client of mine, so they are trying to be nice to me in their own way.
