I recently took my yearly spin at SoAL and I have to say that Vyse is fucking amazing as the main character. He is as perfect as you can be and what amazing is that the supporting cast are likeable as well. Usually there are a couple of douches that I cannot stand but this game nails it. SoA is among my fav RPGs ever, and SoAL is improved upon in most aspects. It adds new "exploration" elements and some other stuff as well. (like "angel of death" sidequest) It's probably my favorite "overworld" ever since searching the sky for new stuff is hella fun.

SoAL shits on any Final Fantasy game.

I preferred FF6's. Got to know the characters in various ways throughout the game, from meeting the first time, getting the character back, and usually an end-game closure-type thing.

Aika's the best in SoA though.

Skies of Arcadia and FF6 have the best casts. I don't know where the "uguu" comments come from. Nothing is overly cute wankery. The characters have appropriately adventurous attitudes. It is a little goofy, but I'll take the humor over the shallow emo behavior thats corrupted JRPG characters. I'd rather have Whedon-like characters than 90210 characters any day.

Skies of Arcadia's cast is very loveable. Aika, Fina, and Vyse were an awesome trio. It's too bad we'll never get a proper sequel, because it was a great game. I did pretty much everything in that game except one of the discoveries I could never find.

Luc's ending is absolutely worthless and meaningless, as are all the other characters' endings. The main appeal of the game series has always been to show countries in the midst of revolutions and wars and how the political and geographical landscape is massively changed by the end of the game. This time around, NOTHING HAPPENED.

In Suikoden III, everything just goes back to the way it was, when throughout the whole game they were building towards the unification of the smaller regions that had been split off from each other and were at war. What are you expecting, the grasslands and Zexen to form a treaty so that they're one country?

They signed an alliance and war was absolved. It's basically the same result as past games. How does this make it a weak ending? Suikoden endings are always great due to the interpersonal relationships between various characters: Jowy and Riou in 2; Tir and Gremio in 1; Luc and his fate. The wars are, and always have been, pure icing. No one really remembers Suikoden 2's emotional ending because you have basically become the new ruler of a country or that City States take over Highland's land after their recently appointed king fled. People remember the ending because of Jowy vs Riou. The same is true for 3's ending.

Ichirou: wrong in general.

The main character endings sucked due to lack of development. Characters say a few lines and then it's credits time.

But Luc's portion of the game, however, makes up for this which not only contains some of the best development in the series, but also the future of Suikoden that we still haven't gotten.

Luc isn't one of the main characters and we don't even know it's him until past the halfway point of the game. You fail. None of the previous games relied on "Well, it's awesome because it might affect the way the games turn out in the future at some point in time", which, let's face it, is never going to happen now because the director/creator of the series was fired from Konami during Suikoden III's development.

You can play as Luc if you get all 108. You get an extra scenario after beating the main game. It's like a 2-3 hour long romp, and it's widely considered to be the true ending to Suikoden III.

Sorry but Suikoden is way better. No substitutes. Konami had the best rpg series on their hands and they destroyed it.
