I only jerk off to Garfield cartoons, I think this is considered normal.

there's a lot of anachronistic stuff in the game, and i know they were just going for a certain mood, but the music bugs me a little - i like it, but none of the rock and roll songs were around in 1951 ("no particular place to go" didn't even come out until 1964, for instance) so it kind of draws me out of the game a bit
Well, in truth, other than the distracting and troublesome man-dates you mention, there's nothing to do in GTA IV. Compared to OWGs like Saints Row or Red Dead Redemption, or even Red Faction, GTA IV is a vacuum outside the main storyline.
I beat the Derek fight. Was easy when you just run to the back of the warehouse and work from there.
I'm glad now they cut it out. Would have been a brutal game with it included
if you can get the Platinum version for a comprable price I would get it.The DLC is OK. I played a few missions in "Jimmy's Vendetta" last night. Theres a lot moer blowing shit up. In one mission I had to blow up 6 gas tankers and a bunch of goons. The scoring and going for multipliers is fun. Not bad DLC for 5 bucks
