the best Joe line is
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Henry "what do you guys know about this group"
Joe "the chinks?"
Vito says chinese immigrants or something and Joe nonchalantly follows with "That's what I said, the chinks."

It's a taste of all the racist shit he would be saying in the following chapters.

Can't see why so many reviewers shat on this game. It's focused and polished, much more than something like GTA4 or Assasins Creed. I don't see the issue with an open world game having fuck all to do outside of the main missions, if you're desperate for things to do then there's some stuff. It just strikes me as reviewers totalling up bullet points and giving a score.

Would this be any better game if it had man dates or rampage missions or taxi driving missions? Not at all, you're a mafia member. Docking the game for what it isn't instead of what it is.

The story is decent enough too. Reviewers fail again.

Well, in truth, other than the distracting and troublesome man-dates you mention, there's nothing to do in GTA IV. Compared to OWGs like Saints Row or Red Dead Redemption, or even Red Faction, GTA IV is a vacuum outside the main storyline.

there's a lot of anachronistic stuff in the game, and i know they were just going for a certain mood, but the music bugs me a little - i like it, but none of the rock and roll songs were around in 1951 ("no particular place to go" didn't even come out until 1964, for instance) so it kind of draws me out of the game a bit

This was driving me insane. I had to keep checking to see what year the game was in, hearing Long Tall Sally which was 1956, Buddy Holly didn't start releasing records until 1957 and John Lee Hookers song was from 1961.

Well, in truth, other than the distracting and troublesome man-dates you mention, there's nothing to do in GTA IV. Compared to OWGs like Saints Row or Red Dead Redemption, or even Red Faction, GTA IV is a vacuum outside the main storyline.

Exactly, yet it doesn't get pinged for it.

Ending and cut content aside it's good fun. A bit too much taxi work but nothing offensive as it's not a long game.

awesome game!

ugh, man Mafia 2 would have been a very easy 1000 if it wasn't for the the damn wanted posters. At least they aren't the most worthless collectibles ever, i.e each one is a weird picture of one of the pasty Czech guys that made the game. I suppose you gotta give them credit.

I'm gonna DL the DLC for this now, but start playing RFG for a change of scenery

So if I get this, I should bag the vanilla version, and not the Platinum Hits version, which has the DLC built-in?

if you can get the Platinum version for a comprable price I would get it.

The DLC is OK. I played a few missions in "Jimmy's Vendetta" last night. Theres a lot moer blowing shit up. In one mission I had to blow up 6 gas tankers and a bunch of goons. The scoring and going for multipliers is fun. Not bad DLC for 5 bucks

You can play the story without the DLC so it doesn't really matter. If it's the same or near the same price go for it.

I just assume that some of the DLC was cut from the original game.

I kinda regret buying the DLC now. Theres one fucking TROLL of an achievement in Jimmy's Vendetta, which is drive 1000 miles. I see myself having driven <200miles by the time I've done all the other achievements, which leaves 800miles of grinding  :-\ There are various methods of getting it which involve just leaving the 360 on, so I'll probably try those while catching up on PS2/3 games.

okay I started playing Joe's Adventures. This is MUCH better than Jimmy's Vendetta. It actually has cutscenes, new locations and setpieces, and adds a bit to the main story of the game. It's still padded out with fodder missions but at least theres a payoff.

Relatively close to 1500'ing this
