As much as I like this game I'm finding it too tedious having to fight the same enemies over and over again just to get to the boss I want to beat. Not to mention, I don't even find the Bell Gargoyle boss hard until his friend joins in and starts shitting fire everywhere when I'm trying to fight this other guy.

It's like this game is aspergers.txt: the game.

If you're smart and cautious you won't have to go through the same pack of enemies in a given area multiple times, it's something I realizing during subsequent play-throughs. The only asperger part about the whole experience was the was the Darkroot Garden soul farming area.

I don't see how being "smart" and "cautious" will allow me to skip fighting the knight on the stair steps nor the husk ambush trap on my way to the bell tower short of running pas them. And believe me, I've tried running past that ambush. Not to mention the distance; go up the stairs, go down the elevator, climb up more stairs, go up two ladders. This just makes getting to the fight actual busy work and is enhancing the game's flaws in every shape and form. Doing the same thing over and over again is definitely pretty aspergers. I don't have the time nor the patience for this shit.

lol bitching out already. I was once like you. I banged my head against the gargoyles for pretty long time and thought i was done with the game.

reality is, you're just going at the boss the wrong way.

here's a step by step guide on how to beat gargoyles:

1.) become human
2.) summon solaire
3.) use gold pine resin
4.) win

but hey, if you really find it that annoying having to go through a few enemies to get to the boss battle again then I guess the game isn't for you. there's no shame in being bitch-made.

Being bitch-made would mean I would have to have a problem with the game's difficulty; I don't. My problem is trekking for minutes at a time just to fight a boss. There's a difference between difficulty and traveling to a boss, and the game wouldn't be any less difficult if you respawned outside a boss door or there were a bonfire outside the boss door. The rest is just busy work. Don't confuse the two nor convince yourself otherwise that riding in an elevator for 1000th time equates to difficulty or makes one "bitch-made" if they don't want to suffer through it.

Nah. Being bitchmade can also apply when you can't man up and deal with a little annoyance. Having to trek back to the boss is punishment for being bad at killing the boss.

Like I said. Nearly everyone encounters this when they played it. I just told you have to kill the boss. Man up and do it.

Himu: If you're playing the game right, you really don't have to "trek for minutes to reach the boss", die, then do it all over again. That's what everyone is trying to tell you. The segment you were complaining about (the road to the gargoyle), wasn't as annoying when I had the area's layout figured out. I certainly didn't think it was tedious enough to quit the game, but sure, if you really need to declare an excuse to everyone in order to justify quitting the game and moving on to some else, be my guest.

Didn't have any humanity. Didn't know what it was for early on and drowned that shit when I ran out of pots. So I grind up some humanity. Only took about 4 hours!

Himu: If you're playing the game right, you really don't have to "trek for minutes to reach the boss", die, then do it all over again. That's what everyone is trying to tell you. The segment you were complaining about (the road to the gargoyle), wasn't as annoying when I had the area's layout figured out.

Tell me then, sir. How am I doing it wrong? There is only one path to the bell tower. The layout is easy to figure out, it's just a linear series of corridors. Getting there isn't a hassle, it's the fact that I have to get there when I already got there I have an issue with. When I'm dying repeatedly, I'd rather have an option to start right outside the boss fog rather than have to journey alllll the way back to the boss through steps and elevators, through easy pap mobs just to fight him again. My argument isn't a complaint of difficulty or "learning the layout", mine is about TIME WASTED.

The fact that you guys can't even accept that traveling in Dark Souls is a tedious affair aggravates me. Oh wah wah, this game is perfect and anyone has a sliver of a problem with it - even if it's not tied to difficulty! - is a pussy. Meanwhile, Shaka's asking questions every post earlier in this thread when this game came out for advice and he calls me a pussy just because I have a reasonable complaint.

Why are you dying repeatedly? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Because you shouldn't be if you had the layout, enemies, bosses and their patterns figured out. The game is far from perfect, but again, when you're dying repeatedly it means there's something wrong with your approach; either you're equipment aren't appropriate, you're not using the right items, you're rushing through certain parts, or you're not supposed to be in that particular area in the first place. You can't force your way through the game by blindly hacking your way through.

However I will concede that the "cautious" approach I advised you to adopt means that you're going to have to slow down at some parts, and be more aware of your surroundings, so if that doesn't sit well with you then the game is probably not for you. It's okay, it's not for everyone.

Meanwhile, Shaka's asking questions every post earlier in this thread when this game came out for advice and he calls me a pussy just because I have a reasonable complaint.

Like always, it's the way the complaint is presented. You're calling out the product because you don't like a design decision and claiming it's a design flaw. Realize that your opinion isn't a factual claim and you won't be harassed for being a pussy.

Now, you're saying that the boss isn't the problem but then you immediately say the aspect of having to repeat parts of the game is because you're dying repeatedly. What Jinfash asked, why are you dying repeatedly? You need to understand that this is one of the reasons the game has this design. When you're forced to repeat sections of the game and go through areas with respawning enemies, you learn how to efficiently handle mobs of enemies. These skills come into play later on when you have to go through long sections between bonfires and being able to handle yourself in combat is essential.

It forces the gamer to look a how they are approaching situations and re-evaluate it. The reality is: You're doing something wrong. Now it's time to fix what you're doing wrong.

Again, that's OK. Nearly everyone that has played this game has when through what you are going through. You're not some maverick standing against the tide here. When I played the game originally I was cursing it's very existence and throwing my controller down and saying I was done. Then I decided to try something different. I looked up various strategies and practiced them. Then I went and did it.

So you have two choices here breh. You can come to the realization that you're playing the game poorly, or incorrectly and take the appropriate steps to fix it. Or you can continue to complain and quit.

The penalty for dying is having to do a corpse run from the last bonfire you rested at. So if you don't like it, don't die! Problem solved.

On the other hand, Himu, if you get cursed and decide to rage about it you'll have my sword. Shit's stoooooooooopid.

Edit: Related thought: after you beat the gargoyle and ring the bell buy one of those things that remove curses from the guy that shows up and just hang on to it. 3k might be tough to swallow at your level, but you'll recover quick and it beats getting cursed in the bottom of a dungeon and having to haul ass all the way back up to undo it.

Hey Himu, I bet you were still trekking from the bonfire back in the middle of Undead Burg to get to the Bell Gargoyles, right?

There's another bonfire you can find that cuts that trip in half. Maybe if you had done a little exploring you would've found it, and I'm sure that would've made subsequent boss attempts easier.

imo, Dark Souls isn't the kind of game where you play until you get stuck and then just bash your head against it until you make it through. The game really challenges you to use what you've learned by playing the game and exploring. If you ever get stuck again, just go in a different direction and see if you can't find something (either an item or an experience) that might help you make actual progress. Don't feel obligated to preserve your momentum as you play through Dark Souls, the game is a series of brick walls.

Had to go up them steps, go up that SLOW ASS ELEVATOR, parry through that knight on the steps, ONE-TWO slashes, dead, PRESS Y, TWO HANDS ON SWORD, go through shitty ambush, back, get space, swing, back, get space, swing, REPEAT until dead. CLIMB UP STAIRS. Climb two shitty ladders, then FINALLY fight boss.

No. Game is great when it's not trying to be a tedious 80's video game for the sake of "difficulty". Shit reminds me of Zelda 2. Die in dungeon, respawn at Zelda, have to travel all the way back to dungeon instead of respawning you inside the dungeon you died in. That pissed me off as a kid, it still pisses me the fuck off now.

With all respect to baby girl gamers, who are probably braver than Himu is being right now, I have to agree with fistful.

EDIT: How is being sent back to the bonfire and fighting through enemies filler, btw? All it does is give you an opportunity to play more and get better at the fighting and even get some souls on the side. The combat is the core of the game and every encounter is something that requires your attention. Did you whine like this when you got sent back to the save point in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and had to fight your way back to the boss? It's the same thing here.

Himumu, you don't have to like the game. It is difficult, it is punishing, and it's not really in line with the mainstream ARPG model.

I will probably never finish the game either; but I don't think it's a crap game -- I just think I don't have the chops to play it well enough to finish.
