the fuck is up with ceaseless discharge? I triggered the boss fight by grabbing some loot, then I booked back to the gate hoping I could pass through again, but I couldn't. so he slammed down on me, but died from a three hit combo or there abouts. either fool was mighty weak or something fucked up. got souls for it though, dunno if I was supposed to get a drop from him.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Since you ran back to the entrance, he probably fell off of the map and died.

I think that's supposed to happen, since it seems like he has a unique death animation for it. You can also kill him normally by evading his attacks and hitting him, so whatever works.  He doesn't drop anything either.

how do i play it???
With your dick out and a hammer nearby.

Actually, the hammer-and-penis combination is for when you can't play Dark Souls, but want that same feeling. Think of it as "Dark Souls Portable."

I killed the Hydra of Darkroot Basin and got my first Dragon Scale. Should I upgrade the Drake Sword or wait for something better? I intended to switch the Drake for the Black Knight Sword but I killed 5 so far with no drops. I have the worst luck when it comes to loot :(

Get the Covetous Serpent Ring in Sens Fortress, should solve some of your item finding woes.

I'm up to Anor Londo, haven't been playing much and I've just gone away for a week or two. If only something like Vita with downgraded ports and cross play was already available  :'( Didn't really find Anor Londo that exciting, maybe once I get further in. I basically beat the Iron Golem, went to Anor Londo, fought some shit got the bonfire, couldn't figure out where to go then had to reluctantly turn it off and catch a plane. So far my favourite area is Darkroot, such a fun, scary and beautiful area with interesting enemies. I just wish those giant cats respawned, they're one of my favourite monsters in the game so far.

Ahhh, so that's where that ring is. It's too late for the DKS, though. There aren't any Sword wielding left until the end of the game :-\

I need to find a better alternative to the Drake. I need a good one hand weapon with stat scaling. Any suggestions?

Is DKS meant to be good or something? I dont like it or think it's good. For an early strength build Zweihander is boss, and only requires 24 STR to 1 hand. Of course you'll want to pump STR further to do decent damage but yeah, I think Zwei is my fav STR weapon I've used so far. As soon as I hit 40 STR I'll be wielding something else though.

Wow, Darkroot has been my least favorite area, probably because it suffers from green, dark green, and darker green as a theme. I dunno, it just didn't impress me, the head-munching ferns monsters are annoying, and sending 5 of those plus two golems just seemed cheap.

Yeah, I know, the game does more cheap stuff later. It's just that baiting AI to come out one at a time feels artificial. Says the guy who beat the Havel Knight by exploiting his AI... (ahem)

Speaking of feeling cheap and exploiting the AI, today I played for an hour just to farm Parrish for the 20K Souls to buy the Crest of Artorias. Then I went in and made a test run in Darkroot Garden to see if it works as advertised. Wow, that's pretty hilarious. The one time a guy landed next to me without falling, he struck once, I blocked with my shield, and his stagger animation dropped him into the abyss.
:lol

...Maybe I should just take the AI for what it is, realize that exploiting it, even if it just means recognizing fight patterns, is part of the game, and get on with it.

But first I'm going to milk Darkroot for a mess of Souls, and upgrade my crap.

I also love it when one would land next to me then kick my character only to be pushed over the edge.

It certainly is part of the fun for both games, imo. The game throws a seemingly impossible challenges at first, but then you get the hang of the mechanics, physics, and controls of the game and use it to your advantage. It's only fair, considering all the rape you had to endure lol.

I tried it, but it was too slow for my taste. I'll give it another try, but I was hoping for something that swings as fast as the Drake.

I think they did a good job of making it feel mystical and scary with a good amount of enemy diversity. It's got living trees, giants, giant cats, crystal golems, tree huggers you can grind for mad souls, a cute mushroom family to murder, a giant hydra spitting giant soul arrows, a giant wolf wielding a giant sword and a cool covenant :heartbeat I've still got a lot to see though

Good luck. For a strength weapon the Zwei is reasonably fast. As someone who played Dex and Magic build in DeSo it felt really weird playing strength at first, but once you get down with the ebb and flow of strength based weapons it's pretty enjoyable

None of those things have shown up yet.

I thought I was done there, but I have only been to the Darkroot Garden, which has has golems, mini-ents, poison vines, and red frog mantas. And the Moonlight Butterfly.

I only just today went past the Garden's door requiring the Crest of Artorias, so perhaps this is all past that?

I just beat Anor Londo and up to this point I've only found 2 dragon scales (didn't kill the Hydra so that makes three). Both of which I used to upgrade the Dragon King great-axe, which is a shame because I just found the Dragon's Tooth weapon in Anor Londo, which actually gives a Strength modifier bonus and I'm a sure a +3 Dragon's Toothe and my 50 strength stat would be pretty boss.

I haven't traded in boss souls for weapons yet, which I wanna do now. Do you have to +10 any weapon and the blacksmith at Anor Londo will convert it? I'm not too sure on how to do it.

main online consensus is to not blow dragon scales on drake sword.

Currently I'm working on a spellsword build, currently rocking a +5 Magic Iaito which kills bad guys good and is really fun to use. Got the Havel ring and lots of END so going to equip a heavy ass shield also.

Yeah mostly, and you can take that fork before the Artorias door and go down past the dark knight to the Hydra and Crystal Golems, or go through the door where you fought Havel

fistfulofmetal, I had been afraid to try those elevators in Undead Parrish. I was afraid they'd lead me directly and non-figuratively to Hell. :lol

Are you sure you got Armored Tusk with just an axe? Is it possible you were assisted by those burning pyres? That's basically what happened to me: I got a couple good hits in and then FWOOOOSH, the thing did massive damage to itself on the scenery.

This morning I disassembled the Capra Demon on my second try. I would have had it in one go, but the darned camera, combined with a large enemy and a small room, had it in for me.

There were a lot of close-ups of my character's back when he was smooshed against a wall on the stairs or archway, neat shots of the ground and underside of the archway when the lock-on was active after I'd leapt off the roof. The whole encounter is a series of object lessons on how that camera can fail.

In both encounters, I got rid of the dogs first, since many boritos had mentioned what bitches (tee hee!) they were. The first time I fought, it seemed like one fireball took him down over 1/3 of his HP, but on the second run, it was not nearly as effective. Drake Sword, OTOH, very effective.

I can only imagine this would have been an interesting fight if it had been on top of a tower instead of a walk-in closet.

i lured the boar back to where you enter undead parish with an arrow then after a couple attempts i was able to get it into position for me to do falling damage from the ledge on the left hand side. technically it wasn't a one shot since it had some health depleted from the arrows but it went from well over 3/4 health to zero.

the axe is pretty good. it does roughly 60-80 damage per hit. just need to farm a bit now so i can buy the weapon repair kit because it's starting to wear down.

The area right past the boar is good for rinsing. You can get 1200 Souls or so for clearing the area just prior to the Parrish bonfire.

Swapped out my Dragon King great axe +2 for the Golem Axe +5. With the strength modifier bonus I get about 390 attack on the Golem axe as opposed to the Dragon King's 436, but it's made up for the fact that it can get in two hits in the same time it takes the Dragon King to get one. Also has a decent ranged magic attack that does more damage than the Great Heavy Soul Arrow I've currently got.

Yeah, on a second thought, I'm saving mine for something else; I saw the upgrade path and the offense gains are not worth it.

I'm getting used to the Zwei, I might main it, but just by comparing weapons' stats it's not as good as the DKS. :(

Edit: I think it's time to move on. I've been farming souls, leveling my stats and pyro flame for the last three days :lol :-[

Magic Shield basically makes you invincible. I don't know if it's just a glitch involving Magic Shield, but it's annoying either way. Fog Ring makes it so you can't lock-on to the other player. This actually doesn't bother me much since my axe has a very wide arc, but it's still dumb. Actually I kinda like the fog ring, since most people who use it try to hide & ambush you, so if you're paying attention, you can get the jump on them since they won't be expecting you to turn around and start attacking. :lol

TWoP = Tranquil Walk of Peace, and you basically get a free win from using it. It creates an aura that slows the other player down tremendously, as if they have 100% equip burden. They can't roll either, so they basically just set there and get destroyed. The spell is completely broken.

Christ, the game doesn't have dialog trees, but it manages to FUCK THAT UP pretty well.

Level 38, cruising The Depths finally, and ONLY JUST NOW getting to the pyromancer. I've had a lvl 1 catalyst for pyro this whole time, and only FIREBALL 8 castings -- This hasn't felt like a stellar class decision for me, so far.

So I save the guy, he thanks me, and I promptly fall down a whole and have to deal with a couple of new enemies I've never seen before, and piles of oozing feces all over the place.

Finally, I make it out of The Depths, and back to Firelink, where the pyro teacher is available at last!

"Oh, hey. I'm a cool guy with a British accent, and I'm kind of casual for a death-dealing wizard, but ho, what ho, I'll teach you some of my spells. What do you say? Unless you find magic unappealing?"

WHAT DO YOU ANSWER:
[YES]  [NO]

Wat? wat-wat-wat? which was the question, and is this an idiomatic use of the negative?

YES OR NO?

Well, every other person so far has been a YES answer to get access to their stuff, so... YES.

"Oh, right. OK, sorry, how horrible of me. I'll just sit here and do nothing then."
spoiler (click to show/hide)
[close]

I have to say "NO" to get your stuff, for which I've waited 38 levels? I quit before the game could save the result, just in case, and restarted.

Pyro catalyst to +3, an extra scroll of Fireball, so I have 16 castings now, and Incendiary or whatever the melee fire strike is. YES. "'Now I have a machine gun, too. Ho-ho-ho.'"

I found it easiest to bring in an NPC summon to draw the fatty away while I focus on the skinny.  He'll probably die (which is a good thing; no sharing souls!), but if you can kill off the skinny, the next part isn't terribly hard to do solo.

I fear I would need to kill all the enemies in the room prior to the boss if I wanted to summon. I have run past them every time.  :shh

Also, I do want the lanky dude last. I already fucked up the pricilla tail drop and ate the butterfly soul. I need this! :maf

I wasted a serious amount of time leveling and gathering pieces of armors and rings. 35 hours, level 63, still haven't opened the gate to Blighttown :-\

damn yo. I did Blighttown at level 28... 63 is nearly end-game territory.

Yeah, I was level 24 when I defeated the gaping dragon a few days, just about to open the gate, when I found out about the exploit. That's when things got out of hand :-[

My current stats are:
Vit: 20
Att: 16
End: 30
Str: 30
Dex: 14
Res: 14
Int: 14
Faith: 8

I regret raising Dex and INT to 14 when I could have used them for Strength. That's the area I need to focus on from here on out. The rest will largely remain the same until I stumble on something with higher requirements. I don't hate my build, but it's too balanced. I'll get destroyed online.

You're in for it then.  The juiced-up skinny is so unfair; I tried it for a while and never came close.  :'(  The fatty is cake by comparison.

If you have Humanity to spare, summon an NPC to divert attention, than stand behind the thing, wailing away two-handed.  When the summon inevitably dies, you can just continue to run behind it, but you'll need to watch out for its goop poop and tail swipe (which you can avoid by cutting off the tail).

Additional maybe-spoilers:

If you're running into trouble, NPC summons, if available, or summons in general, make most of the boss battles SIGNIFICANTLY easier.  You split the earned souls with them, but it's a low price to pay to avoid the headache (provided you survive; otherwise it's humanity you're spending).  The Iron Golem battle, in particular, is hilariously easy if you summon the NPC that's marked in the dead-end tower near the fog.  He staggers the golem with his greatsword and you're free to wail away on him without him so much as attacking more than one or two times total.  Your alternative with a melee character is to try to run under his legs, battling the camera and PRAY he doesn't pick your ass up even when he's facing the wrong direction.  Fuck that, I'll split the souls every time.

I just realized that this game had a pause function all along; it's called "Quit."

Yeah, but it's 7-button-presses away from being a Pause, so if you're actually in the middle of some shit when the phone or doorbell rings, you're SOL.

If you've talked to Solaire, regain your Humanity so you can summon him for the fight.

I think that should be your next destination. Try the Gargoyles and see how your character fares against them. if they're too much to handle you can skip them and head to the Gardens; farm souls, take advantage of the blacksmith, and kill the Moonlight Butterfly, then come back for them. That's what I did.

I... completed Blighttown.

To be honest I thought this area would a LOT worse...

- The frame rate and camera aren't as bad as reviews and players made then sound. Both are a lot better than Demon's world 5, imo.

- Both areas aren't that long (upper levels: medium length, lower level: short)

- Toxic darts and poison attacks aren't much trouble with the Spider Shield equipped.

- Up until Quelaag, fire does a good deal of damage to all enemies.

Quelaag killed my character on my first try thanks to being trapped in her fiery pools and her being immune to all of my Pyromancies. The Drake wasn't dealing much damage so I switched to Zwei on my next try and had no troubles :heartbeat

My most feared area is currently Anor Londo; I saw my friend playing through it last night and getting raped, so I'm not really looking forward to it.

I thought Anor Londo was pretty easy.  Parrying rapes silver knights.  Those towershield dudes are no threat at all if you just draw them out one by one.

That is, until you get to the sniper segment.

the Ando Londo boss is making me want to completely stop playing.

I even summed the Soltaire guy and he died in about 30 seconds.  no other summons were around.  The lock on system keeps canceling out, so my guy is facing the other direction while they attack.   I'm running out of humanity and taking it on solo is impossible.  Other bosses were understandable; this is random glitchy bullshit.
