If I die I won't be able to do this again correct? without using more humanity?  Also how do I summon as a human with the white soapstone thing?

Do what mommy and daddy tell you.

Edit: Yeah you die, you're screwed. There are golden glowing patches on the floor where you can summon. There's one just before the gargoyles.

to assist further, if you have any golden resin, it adds a lightning affect to your weapon which is very effective against the gargoyles.

you can find some in the beginning part of undead burg where there's a tower to your left, and a small open area with a firebomb dude and two others. there's a locked door behind them. the merchant sells the key.

Yeah summoning makes for a world of difference. Although later in the game it becomes fairly useless because NPCs tend to screw with bosses' attack patterns and make them unpredictable.

You'll be on your own for the next boss, and he's a real bastard.

Haha, I was too weak to face them first time I got there. Just run past them for now, they're too slow, and won't cast their spells in time.

(It's been nerfed in 1.05, btw. It used to cause 100% encumbrance before)

Just go directly to the Moonlight Butterfly.

if you can't kill the titanite demon right now, don't sweat it - he's easy enough to run around until you feel you can take him.

Also the walk of tranquility nerf was pvp/player variant specific I think.

Any time. People try to there as fast as possible to farm (I went there after defeating the Gaping Dragon since it drops 25k). It's actually a shortcut, as the area is also accessible from a long yet dangerous route that starts at Darkroot Basin.

I finally figured out how to kill the stone giants easily.  I didn't know my shield would stop 100% of the damage.  What stat for shields determines how much damage you take when blocking because my old shield wasn't doing this.

Stability, indicates how much force a shield can withstand before being knocked aside. The higher the Stability value is, the less stamina will be consumed when an attack is blocked. If the force of a physical attack is greater than a shield's stability value, only damage up to that value will be mitigated; the remainder will taken directly from the user's health.

Are you at the tutorial, or did you reach the Firelink Shrine? Usually when people gets assraped this early it means they accidentally ventured into the Catacombs or New Londo instead of Undead Burg.

what class did you pick. for noobs, warrior is the best class since you can dabble in a lot of stuff. easiest way to play is to throw on the strongest heaviest armor and just tank up.

Pyromancer is a good start for a newbie. It's also the only class that starts at Soul Level 1, but with starting stats comparable or better than the rest. Pyromancy magic will also help you tremendously in the earlier levels. It's not affected by INT or Faith, but by raising an independent stat (pyro glove) if you talk to trainers. So you can still shape your character build however you want, it doesn't have to be magic based.

Pick a shield asap, and don't rush enemies. It's always better counteract than act in this game.

Class really just matters for the first few hours and the initial item.  I picked thief to get the pendent (which did fuckall) and the master key (which opened doors to tough areas way before I should have been able to).  I didn't know thief was considered the worst choice though.

its weird how the new 'thing' with japanese games is almost requiring a strategy guide or data mining on the internet to finish/get the most out of a game- the american approach is to charge people real money in-game to finish/get the most out of a game ;)

Start off as a Pyromancer and concentrate early points into endurance and vitality.  Don't sink points into intelligence if you're planning to stick with Pyromancy.  Only put points into Strength, Dexterity, Faith and Intelligence after you figure out how you want to mold your character.  Ideally, you'll want to do this beforehand; the game will be significantly harder if your character is unfocused.  Come up with a build and go H.A.M.

That is all.  There are some other things you should probably know upfront, but it's more fun for us if you fuck up in the same ways the rest of us did.
