Man I hope the extra content gets added as DLC for the console versions. Dark Souls is one game where I actually wanted to be buttfucked with paid DLC

New Areas – Including Oolacile Tomb, Old Ruins and more

New Weapons and Armor – Equip some from the new bosses, enemies, and NPCs

salty yet?

Oh my fucking god.

Re: framerate. I'm no expert, but is it possible (or could they possibly be stupid enough) to lock the framerate somehow in way it might still experience slowdowns? I mean, I can' understand capping a game at 30fps, but slowdowns?

So the question for me is do I go back to my PS3 game where I was doing good and about 15 hours in, or do I restart when the PC version comes out and suffer through bosses like the Capra Demon that I thought I was done with....

when were you planning on going back to it?

firstly, we don't know the quality of the PC port/version.  assuming it's all good and you're willing to wait, it's probably worth waiting for that.  15 hours is maybe a 1/4th into the game, without considering the new content, new game plus, or pvp.

I don't see how an outsourced port would even make sense anyway. They're adding a bunch of new content into the game... if From is going to design all of this stuff, why would they get someone else to port it? Just doesn't make sense to me, but maybe that has been done in the past.

Is PVP in this game even worth looking at? Seems stupid.

It's fun, but not particularly well balanced. I like it because I can invade other people's worlds and kill them as they're trying to progress through the stage.

You can do 'pure' 1v1 matches in the community's designated arenas, but I'd rather just play a proper fighting game if I'm not out to ruin someone's stage progress.

I didn't like the pvp stuff, and like iconoclast said, it's poorly balanced and had shite netcode.  But the ways the game mixes single player and multiplayer is pretty awesome.  It just makes the experience that much tenser when you can be invaded or summoned at any point.  When I was a forest hunter and was in a bad place, I'd wait around until I was summoned to protect the forest.  It helped me in some tough spots.

co-op is also great.  the nice part is that it's mostly random.

you lose all the embers and all the key except the master one,you also lose the repair and upgrade boxes, you keep items, equipment, souls, levels and i think humanities too tough i'm not sure about them,if you kindle a bonfire, the upgrade carry over new game+ but you will lose the rite of kindling upon starting new game+ so if you want to upgrade a particular bonfire pre-tomb of giants,do it now

i don't think i'm missing anything

If I can find a cheap used PS3 copy I might bite the console version, otherwise I'd go for PC and start all over again. This wouldn't have been open for discussion had the a PC port not been shat out without much care.

not a good strategy for Souls.

My first build was pretty fun. Get STR up to 16, DEX to 20 (so you can wield the Uchigatana) END up to as much as you need (20 or so), then pump your INT hard. Then you can destroy buttholes with heavy soul spears and crystal homing soulmass, then make a lightning uchi +5 and you've got an awesome spellsword build. Once your INT is high enough you can rock a magic or enchanted sword and you will eventually get higher damage than a lightning weapon +5.

i got the zweihander (which you can get fairly early if you just dodge some of the skeleton at the beginning) and pumped most of my stat point in strenght and endurance, the zweihander is powerfull enough to kill enemies in 1-2 hit but it's also slow as fuck, you can also abuse it's heavy attack since it's stun enemy and it let you stun-lock them

yeah I'm gonna roll a new STR/pyro build once the DLC lands. Theres a lot of heavy weapons I have never used as I have never put that many points into STR.  I've done a Faith build too which is super fun once you get the badass lightning spears and forge a holy broadsword of buttfucking.

And yeah Zweihander is one of my fave weapons, sooo badass. Nothing beats squashing some asshole with a giant sword. My favourite thing about Dark Souls is the realistic animation, and hoow you can really feel the weight and power behind the weapons. Makes combat so satisfying. Playing Skyrim afterwards I was like WTF is this jank ass tanking shit gameplay

Quote
On close inspection, it appears that Dark Souls PC uses the very same 1024x720 internal framebuffer as the console versions, regardless of which resolution has been set in the menus. The option provided is for output resolution only; a simple courtesy to allow the game to play on most monitors, but the image quality will always remain the same. In short, PC gamers will very much be getting the genuine console experience here, right down to the pixel.
